: Lois Boisson, ranked 361 in the world, put wild into the wild card at the
French Open
, scripting a daring run into the quarterfinals. The 22-year-old was coming from so far behind she simply couldn't be spotted until she didn't just take the centre stage, she owned it.
There were a couple of firsts for the French player in this edition of the championship, first time in a Grand Slam main draw, and also her first time on the majestic Court Philppe-Chatrier, where she was up against the World No.3 Jessica Pegula on Monday. All things considered, it was as good as it gets. That was the feeling.
No one told Boisson or the French fans that.

The stadium, only one-third full when the match started, filled to capacity in the decider.
The fans lending the lone surviving French player in the singles draws a shoulder, cheering loudly and singing the national anthem. The audacious wildcard responded by reaching for the near impossible. She produced her best tennis to knock out the rock-solid American 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in two-hours and 42-minutes to set up a quarterfinal meeting with the 18-year-old Mirra Andreeva on Wednesday.
Boisson, from Dijon, a principal wine-making area, had a stellar season last year.

She lifted her maiden WTA 125 title on clay at Saint Malo and climbed to No.152 in the rankings by early May. She caught the attention of the establishment and was given a wildcard in last year's Roland Garros. Unfortunately for Boisson, less than two weeks before the start of the clay court major, she suffered a left knee injury. She was forced to undergo surgery which put her out of the sport for nine months.
IPL 2025 Final, RCB vs Punjab Kings: The wait will finally end in Ahmedabad
The 22-year-old, who started playing tennis on clay at the age of eight, wasn't a standout junior, but the red dirt is where she feels at home.
'I played a lot on clay,' she said. 'The more you play, the more you adapt to the surface. After all, I have a game style that fits the surface very well. When the clay season starts, I feel my best and happiest.'
Boisson's forehand is heavy, built for the surface she hopes to reign on, it spun viciously through the light afternoon air, finding the lines. She had 18 winners on that flank in the match, running around her backhand and opening up the court, mixing it up with slices and taking the ball away from the American's comfort zone.
The home player broke on her second opportunity in the ninth game of the second set, and then backed it up by serving out the set at love. The 22-year-old struck decisively in the decider, converting on her fourth chance for a 5-4 lead before warding off four breakpoints and serving out the match. 'In the third set Chatrier was full, it was incredible. Roland Garros is a dream and it's a goal, so being in quarters is a step ahead.

Alexander Zverev set to face Novak Djokovic in Roland Garros quarterfinal clash
Zverev and Djokovic set for Roland Garros quarterfinal Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic will meet in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, a rematch of their Australian Open semifinal earlier this year. Djokovic retired from that match due to a left leg injury, but he enters the Paris encounter without reported health concerns and has not dropped a set in the tournament. Zverev, ranked World No. 3 in the PIF ATP Rankings, has also shown consistent form, losing only one set en route to the final eight. Djokovic holds an 8-5 advantage in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series, including a 1-1 split on clay. Bengaluru Stampede: Kumaraswamy urges CM to fire Shivakumar
Union Heavy Industries & Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday alleged that Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar was responsible for the tragic stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru that claimed the lives of 11 cricket fans. Addressing a late-night press conference at his official residence in New Delhi, the Union Minister urged chief minister Siddaramaiah to sack Shivakumar holding him responsible for the tragedy. He criticized the current government in Karnataka as being run by "arrogant fools" and added, 'It pains me to say this, but we have a Chief Minister who is completely inactive. He has no control over the Deputy CM. As for the Home Minister, there's no point even discussing, he merely obeys commands. If told to sit, he sits; if told to stand, he stands.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sistema TMS para empresas de logística Sistema TMS embarcador Saiba Mais Undo Referring to the government's felicitation event near Vidhana Soudha, Kumaraswamy said, 'While four people lay dead in a stampede near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Shivakumar continued with the felicitation ceremony as if nothing had happened. How else do you describe such a government other than calling it an arrogant one?' Kumaraswamy expressed dismay over the state's haste in organizing a felicitation: 'On Tuesday night, the team won the IPL trophy. What was the rush to organize a felicitation event immediately? Who invited the team? Why this urgency? Everyone knows the role the Deputy CM played in all this,' he lashed out. Live Events 'Why hold two separate events? One program, well-organized with proper preparation, would have been enough. There should have been appropriate security and caution. Instead, everything was rushed simply to glorify himself. As a result of this recklessness, sports fans lost their lives,' he said. Kumaraswamy criticized the Dy CM's conduct at the stadium, saying: 'After his show at Vidhana Soudha, the DCM reached the stadium. Right outside the stadium lay the bodies of the deceased. Rather than stopping the event, he walked into the ground, lifted the trophy, and kissed it. Did he play the match and win the cup himself? Perhaps even the players didn't get the opportunity to touch the trophy. In the midst of deaths, he used RCB's win for his own PR and self-glorification.' 'This kind of recklessness cannot be tolerated. If the Chief Minister truly has any strength, courage, or leadership, he should start by removing such a person from his cabinet,' the Union Minister demanded.

Connor Brown returns to Game 1 after sustaining an injury during the Western Conference Finals The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers are all set to compete with each other in the Stanley Cup Final. Both teams have expressed confidence as they move forward with the matches. A recent development in the lineup for the Edmonton Oilers is that Connor Brown is expected to make a return on the ice after suffering an undisclosed injury from Stars defenseman Alexander Petrovic during the Western Conference Finals. Commenting on the same, Brown said during his morning skate that, 'I feel good. I took a little maintenance day yesterday, but I'm ready to go. I feel excited.' He also added, 'Growing up, you want to play in the Stanley Cup Final. I think it's been echoed a lot around here; last year it kind of felt a bit euphoric being here. It was something you dream about just getting here, (but) this year it'll be different." Additionally, he also added, 'We understood the blueprint, we feel we have a rightful place here, so it's a different feeling. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo It's a good feeling, so I think we're excited to get to our game plan right away.' He shared, 'Connor Brown is a really good two-way player whether we put him out there as part of a shutdown line. His penalty kill skills are second-to-none. He's usually paired with (Mattias) Janmark, and the two of them we rely on quite a bit. But you see during the playoffs he's come up with some really big goals, especially early in our playoff run against L.A. (in the first round). He's a guy that can move up and down the lineup, especially right now we're short on right wingers with Hyman not being available.'
