The oldest theme park in New Hampshire is over 100 years old. Here's where it is
As the weather gets warmer, it's almost time to return outdoors to some of your favorite summer attractions, including beaches, festivals and theme parks.
Luckily, New Hampshire has plenty of longstanding theme parks perfect for a fun-filled summer day wrapped in New England tradition. In fact, the oldest theme park in New Hampshire opened over 100 years ago, and you've probably been to it without even knowing. Located in Salem, Canobie Lake Park first opened in 1902.
Here's the story of how the park came to be, as well as how to visit this summer.
According to the park's website, Canobie Lake dates back to 1902, when trolley line company The Hudson, Pelham & Salem (HP&S) Railways opened the park as a resort for trolley cars. Original attractions included picnics, canoeing, sporting events and a penny arcade.
However, with the rise of the automobile in the 1920s, HP&S Railways started to face trouble, and in 1929, Canobie Lake Park went out of business. The park reopened in 1932 thanks to a purchase from a private citizen. In 1936, Canobie Lake constructed its first rollercoaster, The Greyhound, today known as the Yankee Cannonball.
Despite its coaster, Canobie was mainly known as an entertainment destination, hosting names like Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra in its Dancehall Theater. In 1958, Canobie Lake Park was purchased by new owners, who are credited with adding rides, games and concessions that made Canobie into a true theme park.
Today, Canobie Lake Park stands as one of New England's most popular theme parks, complete with over 85 attractions and an additional 180 water attractions at Castaway Island, Canobie's waterpark.

Canobie Lake Park is currently open on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with Castaway Island opening on May 24 and daily park operations returning June 4. A full calendar with hours can be found online.
Tickets range from $34-59 depending on the day, with discounted tickets available for those over age 60 or under 48" tall. Special nighttime tickets and season passes are also available. All tickets must be purchased online.
The park is located at 85 N. Policy St. in Salem.

He's the ham in ‘Ham Jam': Comedic bard B.A. Johnston has new season of show about the Hammer
Paul Osbaldiston … meet B.A. Johnston. Ozzie, the former punter and placekicker for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, is just one Hamilton icon that turns up in the new season of the comedic troubadour's show 'B.A. Johnston's Ham Jam.' Johnston says it was a highlight of the five-episode show that is now playing on Bell Fibe TV 1 and YouTube. Each episode is about 15 minutes. 'I idolized Osbaldiston while I was growing up,' says the 50-year-old west Hamilton resident and entertainer, who will be on a tour this month, playing in bars between Thunder Bay and Vancouver. 'That was a real special one.' I love Hamilton. I could write love letters to Hamilton all the time. B.A. Johnston Other episodes see Johnston going to the 2022 Labour Day Classic, and a special food show where he visits Hutch's on the Beach, Roma Bakery & Deli, Easterbrook's, Grandad's Donuts, the Tally Ho, Black Forest Inn and Shakespeare's fine dining. B.A. Johnston gets shut out of the 2022 Labour Day Classic, despite having a ticket. It is part of an episode on his show 'B.A. Johnston's Ham Jam.' The second season is now running on Bell Fibe/TV 1 and YouTube. He has one sobering episode about gentrification of Hamilton, and the housing problem, but throughout the five episodes there are bursts of his infectious humour and his warmth for the Hammer. The first season featured shows on steel, waterfalls and sub shops. 'I love Hamilton,' Johnston says. 'I could write love letters to Hamilton all the time.' He thought of doing more food shows because 'I'm a food guy. Why don't we talk about Hutch's for six episodes?' In the show, he talks about having an eating challenge, maybe eating 'all this stuff in 24 hours.' His mother, Kim, advises against it. 'I don't think you should be scarfing down a bunch of food,' she says. B.A. Johnston chows down on a roast beef sandwich at the Tally Ho in an episode of his show 'B.A. Johnston's Ham Jam.' The second season is now running on Bell Fibe/TV 1 and YouTube. At another point, he waxes poetically about the Ghostbuster doughnut at Grandad's. 'This is the doughnut I would marry,' he says. 'This is the doughnut I would take to the prom.' It took six years to get the second season of 'Ham Jam' on the small screen. The first season premiered in 2019. The show is directed-produced by Douglas Nayler, co-founder of Quiet Ghost Inc. Johnston said the pandemic played a role in the delay, but there were some family crises and worry of legal action from the Canadian Football League over a cartoon. That latter issue required an episode to be changed. 'I don't know a lot about the TV business, but it takes longer than you think,' he said. 'But, it's out now.' The second season got a premiere in December at the Playhouse Cinema. 'I thought the response was great,' said Johnston. 'My mom said it was better than the first season.' Johnston went to Westdale Secondary School and took philosophy at Trent University in Peterborough. He said it took him seven years to get his degree 'but I did finish it.' B.A. Johnston is his stage name and he likes to say he uses that because his name is Bryan Adams Johnston. Of course, there is 65-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter Bryan Adams. 'He's a little older than me,' says Johnston. 'He got the jump on me.' He joked his entry into music was 'spite driven.' He started learning how to play the guitar in the last year of high school. 'No one would let me in their band, so I thought I'd have my own band,' he said. He was a regular at the former This Ain't Hollywood, but also played the old Underground, Pepper Jack Café and the Casbah Lounge. He has 14 albums and been nominated for two Polaris Prizes given to Canadian albums — in 2015 and 2017. His last album was titled 'Argos Suck.' Comic singer B.A. Johnston's second season of 'B.A. Johnston's Ham Jam' featured two episodes on his beloved Hamilton Tiger-Cats. One featured him being shut out of the 2022 Labour Day Classic, despite having a ticket. Johnston doesn't foresee a third season of 'Ham Jam.' 'There's more stories to tell, but I think that's the end of 'Ham Jam,'' he said. He's on the road a lot. He drives to his gigs, which he doesn't really enjoy. This month, he will be playing in places such as Winnipeg and Lethbridge. 'I like playing music,' Johnston says. 'I don't like driving to Wawa.'

Days of Our Lives Recap: How Does Cat Know Sami?
Days of Our Lives Recap: How Does Cat Know Sami? originally appeared on Daytime Confidential. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: The Spectator: Chad arrives as Leo works on John Black's obituary. Leo suddenly remembers today is the day of Chad's skydiving date with Cat. He is terrified which sends Leo into one of his stories, which does Chad no good. They discuss the feelings Cat had for Chad and Leo wonders if she's still holding on to hope. He suggests Chad cancel the date for both their sakes. Leo is on the phone with the copy editor talking about the integrity of his work when Jack walks in and gets snarky. Leo says a lot has changed since Jack has been gone. He is now a legitimate journalist. Jack knows and says Leo is doing a good job with his work. Leo is thrilled by the compliment and Jack notes he is quite the asset to the paper. The mood changes when Jack says Leo's mother must be proud. Jack knows Diana has changed so much since she sold him The Spectator. Leo stops him as he remembers Jack blackmailed his mother into the 'sale.' Jack smiles as he knows Leo speaks the truth. He wonders if Diana knows her son is a reporter at the paper which was once hers. Leo thought about going by the prison to tell his mother about John but can't deal with the drama and abuse. Jack recalls Diana making him think John was his father. Leo says he should have known a man like John couldn't have been his father. Jack says they are not defined by their parents. It takes courage to change, and Jack says he has it in droves. Leo thanks Jack for his kind words. Before he leaves, he asks if Jack has heard from Gwen. They both admit they haven't, and Jack seems genuinely pained she is still in the wind. Leo leaves a message for Marlena to say how sorry he is about John's passing. Just then, young Douglas arrives. Leo says he's had no time to track down Julie's necklace. Doug says he's had no luck with Melinda. That being said, the necklace is the least of his problems as his life is imploding. Hernandez House: Gabi finds a distraught Arianna Grace not eating her food. She just can't get over the death of her Grandpa John. She just saw her dad who is not thrilled with her living under the same roof as Leo Stark. Arianna goes on to say how strange and kind of sweet it is that Leo keeps giving her Celine Dion cds, as if she ever owned a cd player. Gabi just thinks he is trying to make an effort. Gabi brings up her daughter's disappearing act and the two begin to fight. Just then, Rafe returns and embraces his niece. Rafe has returned early from FBI training to attend John's funeral. Arianna Grace leaves and Gabi fills Rafe in on her daughter's shenanigans. He thinks she's making a mountain out of a mole hill. Gabi worries she no longer knows her own daughter. With that, Rafe embraces his sister. They switch to talking about Rafe's new job which leads him to mention the stolen memory stick. He reminds his sister that the memory stick would most likely reveal EJ's shooter. Gabi thinks it's obvious Leo is the culprit. Rafe wonders what Leo has to gain from stealing the memory stick. Gabi thinks it's obviously a tool for blackmail. Rafe gets it but wonders why he isn't using it and is still pointing the finger at her. He thinks Leo is actually telling the truth, especially since he now fancies himself an investigative reporter. Gabi admits he probably couldn't pass up revealing the shooter in print. Rafe thinks it's time for him to tell Jada about the memory stick. Gabi worries he's not ready for that confrontation. He says this evidence is way more important than their relationship issues. He asks Gabi if she is 100% certain there is nothing that would incriminate her on the memory stick. Brady Pub: Young Douglas is on the phone with the loan shark goons because he has missed two payments. Just then, Holly arrives followed by Arianna Grace. Doug freaks out and heads back behind the bar. Arianna heads to the bar to get flirty with Doug when Holly approaches and hugs Arianna. Doug freaks out a bit as he realizes the two women in his life are very familiar with one another. Arianna Grace explains she returned home recently which turned out to be good timing as her grandfather just passed away. Holly freaks out when she realizes she's talking about John. Very quickly, she excuses herself and makes her exit. Young Douglas makes the connection in Holly and Arianna Grace's ages and questions how they met in a bar. She says she has a fake idea and then he nervously makes sure she is actually of legal age. He heaves a sigh of relief when he learns they slept together the night of her birthday. She says she would really like to see him again and Doug is totally on board. Outside, someone takes a picture of their encounter. With that, she makes her exit and Doug takes a 30-minute break. Marlena and John's Penthouse: Tate answers the door and doesn't recognize Cat. She introduces herself as Marlena's assistant. He knows all about her as Aaron is his bestie. She tries to explain but Tate says it's water under the bridge. Cat says how wonderful Marlena has been to her and wants to show her support. Just then, she sees a picture of Samantha Gene and notes just how familiar she seems. Cat crosses to the photograph and Tate says she is his Aunt Sami. Cat says maybe she just reminds her of someone else. She then sees a picture of John and she says they were in Poplar Bluff at the same time. She always wanted to thank him for helping with their mother and grandmother's escape. Tate notes he was a hero to a lot of people. Tate gets choked up and excuses himself. Left alone, Cat pulls the picture of John off the mantle and says how sorry she is. Tate is looking at a picture of his grandfather when Holly arrives. She says she just heard and embraces him. Holly wanted to make certain he was ok as she still cares about him. Tate is confused as he thought she was pretty cozy with young Douglas. Holly says they are just friends. He apologizes for what he did to Doug and says he misses her. Holly says his father sort of told her the same. The truth is she really missed him, too. Just then, Tate gets a text from Sophia who is on her way over. Horton House: Julie is ordering flowers or Marlea when Jack and Jennifer Rose arrive home. She embraces them both but wishes they hadn't returned for another sad occasion. Jack notes they have some good news to celebrate, and they discuss Bo's recovery. Jack decides to run over to The Spectator and heads out. Julie and Jennifer Rose take a seat. JRo asks how she's doing. Julie says her grief counseling with Marlena was going well until her wedding anniversary rolled around and Bo was dying and now, they've lost John. She has now begun to feel the grief all over again. JRo wants to support her, and Julie says how grateful she is for their arrival. Julie and JRo catch up on young Douglas and how she kicked him out. Julie says Doug was no angel himself, but he never lied to her. They chat about the necklace and JRo says she is using all of her contacts to try and locate the necklace. Just then, Julie gets a notification and says she promised Marlena she would pick up her dry cleaning before the funeral. She hates to leave JRo and says Chad will be home soon if he survived his skydiving date with Cat. JRo is rightfully surprised and annoyed by this turn of events. Horton Square: Cat and Chad meet up. She doesn't want him to do anything with which he is uncomfortable and is cool if he wants to back out. Chad says he is totally in as he thinks they should do something every day that scares them. They get all kinds of adorably cute with one another as they prepare to make the jump. Kat says after her accident she was in a deep depression and going skydiving made her feel alive again (I had totally forgotten about the accident. I wonder if that's the connection to Sami). Endings Tate apologizes saying they have a labor and delivery tour at the hospital. He asks Holly if they could continue their conversation another time. She agrees and they exchange kind words before she exits. Young Douglas tells Leo everything about Arianna Grace and Holly, as well as the loan shark who continues to harass him. Leo gets real and says he can pursue two women at the same time as long as they don't find out. Further, he needs to find a way to make some quick money as loan sharks are no joke. A photographer watches Arianna Grace and continues to take pictures. Gabi admits to going to the DiMera estate the night of the shooting but promises she didn't even see EJ that night. She only heard him arguing with someone. She wonders if the shooter actually broke into their home and took the evidence. Cat says they should head over to the airfield but Chad is stuck, until she pulls him away. Jennier Rose is furious about the Cat and Chad situation when Jack returns. Why Newsmax Stock Is Sinking Today
The company's stock is down more than 90% from its peak post IPO. Despite this, it still remains expensive in my view. 10 stocks we like better than Newsmax › Shares of Newsmax (NYSE: NMAX) are plunging on Thursday. The media company's stock lost 9% as of 3:50 p.m. ET. The steep decline comes as the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC) and Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX: ^IXIC) lost 0.3% and 0.8%, respectively. There isn't a direct catalyst today, so here's a quick analysis of the company's stock. Newsmax saw its stock skyrocket nearly 1,800% in the first two days following its recent initial public offering (IPO), before falling roughly 90% over the next week. The conservative media company's viewership has been spiking, leading to the intense excitement around its stock. Newsmax's Q1 viewership jumped 50% year over year, and it is now one of the five most-watched channels in all of cable and the fourth-most-watched cable news channel. Along with its viewership, its revenue has grown considerably as well. The company's revenue jumped 26.4% from 2023 to 2024. That's about where the good news ends. The company is operating deep in the red, losing more than $17 million in the first quarter of 2025. Its viewership numbers are also less impressive when you consider that most cable news channels saw comparable major growth over the same period and that its biggest competitor, Fox News, is still miles ahead. All 15 of the most-watched shows on cable appear on Fox. And that 15th-ranked show has 3 times as many viewers as Newsmax's top-ranked program. Despite this disparity, Newsmax stock carries a price-to-sales ratio more than 8 times that of Fox News' parent company. This seems divorced from reality to me. And if that weren't reason enough to stay away from this stock, Newsmax is facing massive litigation over its false statements regarding the 2020 election. The penalty it could face would potentially bankrupt the company.
