Former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has left Bordeaux after one season in the French fourth tier.Bordeaux said Carroll took the decision to leave in order "to be closer to his children".The 36-year-old joined Bordeaux from Ligue 2 side Amiens last September and scored 11 goals in 21 league games for them."Beyond the statistics, Andy brought his experience, physical impact and professionalism to the table every day, in the dressing room and in important games," the club said in a statement."Off the pitch, he is an exceptional and generous personality that the club's fans and employees have enjoyed working with."Bordeaux, six-time Ligue 1 champions, surrendered their professional status after being relegated from Ligue 2 to Championnat National 2 because of bankruptcy last year.Carroll scored 54 goals in 248 Premier League games during spells with Newcastle United, Liverpool and West Ham United.He then went on to play for Reading and West Bromwich Albion before moving to France with second-tier side Amiens in 2023.

Marc Guehi has been selected as Liverpool's next signing once Jarell Quansah departs for Bayer Leverkusen and it appears that the Crystal Palace star is already a big fan of some of his potential teammates Marc Guehi has hailed Liverpool 's 'fantastic players' including Mohamed Salah ahead of a potential move to Anfield. The Crystal Palace captain has been identified as the Reds' next summer signing once they get deals for Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez over the line. Guehi has been identified as a replacement for academy graduate Jarell Quansah, with the defender set to sign for Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool have been keeping tabs on the England defender, with his Crystal Palace deal due to expire in 12 months' time. And while there appears to be some work left to do to get a deal thrashed out, Guehi has already made his feelings very clear on Liverpool. Speaking ahead of taking on the Merseysiders back in 2023, he said: "I don't think there's any good time to play Liverpool, really. Everyone knows how strong they are as a team, they've got some fantastic players." Having hailed Liverpool in general, Guehi also had special praise for one of his potential future teammates way back in 2021. After Palace had fallen to a 3-0 defeat at Anfield - a game in which Salah scored - the defender praised the Egyptian forward. He said: 'He's so quick. Very quick, a very intelligent player. The way they play is very direct, they like to get the ball forward to their front players as quick as possible.' Liverpool could potentially face competition for Guehi as they attempt to seal his services. Newcastle are also long-term admirers of the former Chelsea defender having had a clutch of bids rejected for his services - the highest of which was around the £65m mark. Palace originally signed him from Chelsea for around £18m in 2021 and he has gone on to make 155 appearances for the Selhurst Park side and helped them to win the FA Cup last season. Despite being keen on keeping him around, it already appears that the Eagles have already started their succession planning. They are keen on a deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande as a potential replacement. Guehi's arrival at Anfield would round off what has been an expensive summer so far for Liverpool. They have already added Jeremie Frimpong to their squad for £35m, while the £100m-plus signing of Florian Wirtz is expected to go through imminently. Liverpool are also expected to sign Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez for around £45m. Goalkeepers Armin Pecsi and Giorgi Mamardashvilli have also finalised moves to Anfield this summer. Outgoings have been on the agenda for Reds chiefs too. Caoimhin Kelleher was sold to Brentford, while Liverpool also earned a considerable fee for Trent Alexander-Arnold despite the defender being at the end of his deal. Liverpool newcomer Florian Wirtz motivated to build on Leverkusen achievements
The Premier League champions have paid Bayer Leverkusen £100million for the 22-year-old Germany international but that fee could potentially become a British record as there are £16m of add-ons included. If achieved that would surpass the existing mark of £115m which Chelsea paid for Moises Caicedo in 2023 and it is understood Liverpool will be happy to pay these 'aspirational bonuses' as it will mean they have enjoyed considerable success at elite level. And that is what Wirtz, one of Europe's hottest properties, is determined to contribute to. 'I'm not coming (to) have fun here, I want also to achieve something and give the fans what they deserve,' he told the club's website. 'Of course I want to keep going at this performance. So yeah, that sure gives motivation to achieve more. 'I would like to win everything every year. First of all, we have to do our work, I have to make my work. In the end, we want to be successful. 'Last season they won the Premier League, so my goal is for sure to win it again and also to go further in the Champions League. He wants to continue the progress which saw him score 57 goals and contribute 64 assists in 197 appearances for Leverkusen. 'This was also a big point for me: that I will improve my own personal level and physical levels because I think everyone knows that in Liverpool the players are machines – really strong and really physical,' he added. 'But I see this also as an opportunity for me to get better in this point. So yeah, I just thought this was the right place for me.' Liverpool saw off competition from Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to secure Wirtz. Leverkusen had valued him at £126m but a compromise was reached last week, although the up-front fee easily outstrips the £85m deal Liverpool agreed with Benfica in 2022 for Darwin Nunez, who is expected to leave this summer. 'I'm really excited to have a new adventure in front of me. This was also a big point of my thoughts: that I want to have something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and to join the Premier League,' he added. Wirtz is Liverpool's second signing of the summer, following close friend and Leverkusen team-mate Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield, and with the Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvilli joining next month after a deal was agreed a year ago spending has already reached £175m. That is set to be pushed beyond the £200m mark with a £40m fee agreed for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. It is their biggest summer window since 2018 when Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker were recruited for around £170m, with Virgil van Dijk having signed for £75m the previous January. Former Premier League football star 'is declared bankrupt' - but says at £2million mansion he had 'no idea' about legal ruling
A former Premier League footballer who has been declared bankrupt is insisting he had 'no idea' all his valuable assets could now be seized. Lee Clark, 52, an ex-midfielder for Newcastle United, Sunderland and Fulham, said yesterday from his £2m mansion that he was oblivious to the risks. This is despite his bank accounts and savings now being potentially earmarked to pay unsecured creditors, if the debt is not addressed. The petitioner was a finance firm called One Stop Business based in York. Mr Clark told the Mirror from his house in Jesmond, Newcastle: 'I have no idea. I have no comment to make I know nothing.' The former player made 200 appearances at Newcastle United before moving to Sunderland in 1997 after signing a £2.5million deal. But his decision to war a T-shirt bearing the slogan 'Sad Mackem B*****' at the 1999 FA Cup final angered a number of fans. He then moved to Fulham before a brief return to Newcastle. Following the end of his playing career in 2006, Mr Clark managed Huddersfield, Birmingham City and Blackpool, spending time in Sudan and Oman. His son, Bobby, went on to play for Liverpool before joining RB Salzburg. News of Mr Clark's financial situation comes after ex-football ace Trevor Sinclair also declared bankruptcy last week. Last year, the Mail revealed Mr Clark regretted wearing the 'Sad Mackem B****d' t-shirt that ended his Sunderland career. Speaking to Mail Sport, he said: 'Of course, I've got regrets. It was like biting the hand that feeds you. 'There were no camera phones then, just the old disposable ones and a few cameras clicked and it came out a few weeks later. It made my position at Sunderland untenable.'
