He commended the efforts of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for establishing this remarkable institution.
The Academy is devoted to the Quran and its sciences, and it houses a rare collection of manuscripts and possessions of notable Quran reciters who have made a significant impact on preserving and transmitting the Holy Quran through the centuries.
The visit was part of the agenda of Dr Sheikh Saleh Bin Humaid and Dr Mohammed Abdulrahman Al-Duwaini, Deputy of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in Egypt, along with other participants in the 'Objectives of the Holy Quran: Between Theory and Practice' conference organised by the University of Sharjah.
They were welcomed at the Academy by Dr. Khalifa Musabah Al Tunaiji, Chairman of the Sharjah Quran Academy, Abdullah Khalaf Al-Hosani, the Secretary General, and a number of department heads.
Dr. Al Tunaiji welcomed the guests and accompanied them on a tour of the Quranic museums. The visitors explored exhibits on the history of Quranic script, rare manuscripts, the science of Quranic readings (qira'at), renowned Quran reciters, scientific miracles in the Quran, and the covering of the Kaaba (kiswa), among other invaluable artefacts.
Dr Sheikh Saleh Bin Humaid expressed his admiration for the Academy, calling it a distinctive cultural and intellectual landmark in the field of Quranic knowledge. He praised its innovative methods in education, research, and documentation of Quranic sciences and interpretation, underscoring its vital role in preserving, spreading, and honouring the message of the Quran worldwide.

Faith beyond sight: Blind Pakistani pilgrim's lifelong Hajj dream fulfilled

Among the millions of pilgrims in Mina, 63-year-old Pakistani Habibullah stands out. For him, this year's Hajj is not merely a pilgrimage but the culmination of a lifetime of unwavering patience and profound faith. Born sighted, Habibullah lost his vision at 18. He then dedicated his life to teaching Islamic jurisprudence in Pakistan, memorising the entire Holy Quran in Braille. Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), he tearfully recounted his lifelong dream of Hajj, praying daily to visit the Grand Mosque. "This Hajj season, my dream came true," he shared. "It is true that I do not see the Holy Kaaba, but I feel it in my heart, as if it resides within me. Knowledge and education are light; true darkness is the absence of knowledge, not vision." His profound inner light and unwavering faith define him. "I was a blind child," he reflected, "but today I am a successful man thanks to my knowledge, my faith, and Allah's choice to bring me here." With a smile of certainty, he concluded, "The blind child I was decades ago has achieved great success today. I am happy and grateful to Allah." His story is a testament to profound faith and perseverance, fulfilling a four-and-a-half-decade dream of Hajj.

Hajj pilgrims pray on Saudi Arabia's Mount Arafat

Pilgrims prayed on Mount Arafat on Thursday during the high point of the annual hajj pilgrimage, as officials called on devotees to refrain from being outside during the hottest hours of the day. Thousands of pilgrims began to gather before dawn around the hill and the surrounding plain where the Prophet Mohammed is believed to have given his last sermon. While some arrived early to take advantage of the relatively cool morning, carrying colourful umbrellas, many pilgrims will remain for prayers and Quran recitals until the evening in the most arduous portion of the hajj. After sunset they will head to Muzdalifah, where they will gather pebbles so they can perform the symbolic "stoning of the devil". Follow more Hajj 2025 here.
