Last rites performed for father and son from Bhavnagar who died in the Pahalgam terror attack, Gujarat CM pays tribute
Seven of our family members went to Srinagar but only five returned, says 38-year-old Bharatbhai Parmar, watching the pyres of his cousin Yatishbhai Sudhirbhai Parmar (45) and nephew Smit Yatishbhai Parmar (17) from the cremation ground in Bhavnagar Thursday morning.
Yatishbhai Sudhirbhai Parmar's family left for Srinagar on April 19 to attend a Ram Katha by spiritual leader Morari Bapu. The family was set to return to Gujarat in a day or two, but the Pahalgam terror attack on Tuesday brought their trip to Jammu and Kashmir to a tragic end.
The family lives in the Nandanvan Society in Kaliyabid area of Bhavnagar city.
Yatishbhai's wife Kajalben, along with her parents and other family members, returned Wednesday night to Ahmedabad by air from Srinagar and reached Bhavnagar by road. The family members said that the administration assured them to make all arrangements for the mortal remains and family members to reach home in Bhavnagar.
'It is an irreparable loss to the family. What was a good family time together turned into a nightmare,' Bharatbhai told The Indian Express.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid tribute to the late father and son at their residence. When their bodies were brought to Bhavnagar late at night, CM Patel went to their home and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
The bodies of the father and son killed in the terrorist attack were brought from Srinagar to Mumbai and from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. From Ahmedabad, both the bodies were brought to Bhavnagar by road at midnight.
While Yatishbhai owned a salon and restaurant, his son Smit was a Class 11 student. The Parmars – Yatishbhai, his wife and son – hail from Palitana and have been staying in Bhavnagar for 20 years.
'They went to Pahalgam on Tuesday on an excursion for some good photo memories. The elder son, who works in a laboratory in Bhavnagar, did not accompany them due to his job. Yatishbhai's wife is on her way to Gujarat. The entire family is in shock at the moment and waiting for everyone to be back home safe,' Bharatbhai, Yatishbhai's cousin, told The Indian Express.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Union Minister of State Nimuben Bambhania, Cabinet Minister Kunvarji Bavaliya, Mayor Bharatbhai Barad, MLAs Jitu Vaghani, Sejalben Pandya, Bhikhabhai Baraiya, and Gautambhai Chauhan, along with district administrative officials.

The mystery of what happened to the newlywed couple Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi from Madhya Pradesh's Indore who had travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20 — nine days after their wedding — continues to confound investigators. The couple had checked out of the Shillong hotel on May 23 and travelled to an area near Cherrapunji. They last talked to their family that afternoon. Raja's body was found with wounds inflicted by a Dao (machete) while Sonam has yet to be found. The video, which is four minutes long, shows Raja and Sonam arriving at the homestay with a white suitcase and wearing black jackets. The video shows the couple interacting with each other before Raja goes inside to talk to the staff at the registration desk. Sonam is seen taking off her jacket and fixing her hair. Moments later, Raja comes out, takes a few things out of the suitcase, and hands them over to Sonam. The white shirt Sonam is seen wearing in the CCTV footage was later found near Raja's body. Meanwhile, as Sonam's brother Gaurav waits anxiously for news of his sister, he says he's 'relieved' at the MP government decision to seek a CBI probe. 'I have been with the police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for days now and there is no headway in the case. Even the new CCTV footage we had traced and leaked to the media. Top Gujarat Congress leader arrested over Op Sindoor post: Who is Rajesh Soni?
Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary Rajesh Soni, arrested for an alleged objectionable post on Operation Sindoor, belongs to a family of jewellers and is a first-generation politician, say his party colleagues. Many in the Congress refer to Soni as the go-to person for 'publicity-related tasks'. At least three top party leaders told The Indian Express that the credit for putting up maximum hoardings and billboards during Congress party events goes to him. However, according to his detractors in the party say 'his billboards would mostly be of his mentors and patrons in the party'. Soni, who is in his forties, was arrested by the Gujarat State Cyber Crime Cell on Friday under sections 152 (endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India) and 353 (making, publishing or circulating statements that could lead to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS) for alleged posts on his social media handles and pages that were 'demoralising for the Army', as per the FIR. Originally from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Soni joined the Congress in 2015 with his team of supporters. 'Within just a couple of years of his joining the party, he was made an All India Congress Committee (AICC) delegate. Promotions came early for him compared to other senior leaders,' said a Congress leader in the Ahmedabad city unit. He was appointed general secretary of the state unit in 2022 when former MP Jagdish Thakor was the state party president. Thakor described Soni as a person 'who did a lot of charity and was always at the forefront to help during natural calamities', while state Congress spokesperson Amit Nayak recalled how, during the Covid-19 pandemic, Soni ran a community kitchen. Former Union minister Bharatsinh Solanki, who was the state Congress president from 2015 to 2018, told The Indian Express, 'Soni holds an event every year to distribute notebooks to children and this time he invited me. I suggested that he also distribute tablets. He obliged and gave tablets to some five children.' Soni's father, a jewellery businessman from Pali in Rajasthan, came to Ahmedabad for business and the family decided to settle down in the city's Isanpur area, where Soni was born. When he was young, Soni joined his father's business. 'Later, he got into the construction business and launched his own company called Soni Corporation,' said Nayak. Soni's party colleagues said one of the reasons he was being 'targeted' because he is an 'RTI activist' and participates in television debates.'Soni is being targeted because he is a kattar agevan (staunch leader), has been in charge of the party's IT Cell earlier.
