Liverpool City Region orders 58 next-generation Enviro400EV zero-emission double deckers from NFI subsidiary Alexander Dennis
LARBERT, United Kingdom, Feb. 25, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (TSX: NFI, OTC: NFYEF, TSX: NFI.DB) NFI Group Inc. (NFI) a leading independent bus and coach manufacturer and a leader in zero-emission electric mass mobility solutions, subsidiary Alexander Dennis Limited (Alexander Dennis), today announced that it has taken a firm order from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for 58 next-generation Enviro400EV zero-emission buses.
The electric buses are expected to join the city region's current fleet later this year. Publicly owned by the Combined Authority, they will be operated by a commercial bus operator ahead of the introduction of franchising from 2026 onwards. Their purchase is being supported by the second tranche of the Department for Transport's Zero-Emission Bus Regional Areas fund (ZEBRA 2).
The Enviro400EV is part of Alexander Dennis' next generation of zero-emission buses. It has been designed to maximize its environmental benefits, and testing certified by the Zemo Partnership has confirmed its best-in-class energy requirement of only 0.67kWh/km over the UK Bus Cycle alongside a market-leading 97% grid-to-wheel charging efficiency. Combined with a warranted energy throughput of up to 1.6GWh, ongoing operating costs will be kept to a minimum to ensure the buses are financially as well as environmentally sustainable.
All 58 Enviro400EV for the Liverpool City Region will be built in Britain, supporting 1,900 UK skilled jobs and more than 60 apprenticeships at Alexander Dennis as well as further significant employment at the manufacturer's 8,000 suppliers across the United Kingdom.
'Buses are the backbone of our public transport network – around 80% of all public transport journeys in our region are taken by bus. But for too long, our communities have been left with a second-class service that simply doesn't work for them,' said Steve Rotheram, Mayor of the Liverpool City Region. 'That's why we're taking back control of our buses and putting the public back at the heart of public transport. These new, state-of-the-art, all-electric double-deckers are another step towards building the London-style transport system our region deserves – one that's reliable, affordable, and works for the people it's meant to serve. And because they're built right here in Britain, they're helping to support thousands of good, well-paid jobs and apprenticeships too. Franchising will be the biggest shake-up to our bus network in decades, but we're not waiting until 2026 to make things better. Whether it's capping fares at £2 or investing in cleaner, greener vehicles, we're getting on with the job of making journeys cheaper, better, and more sustainable for local people.'
'We're honoured to support the team at the Combined Authority and Mayor Steve Rotheram as they work to further improve bus services across the Liverpool City Region. The 58 new Enviro400EV double deckers we're building will cut out tailpipe emissions and offer passengers a smoother, quieter journey. They will also support British jobs and apprenticeships across our own network of facilities as well as in our extensive supply chain, ensuring that public money is reinvested in our economy,' said Paul Davies, President & Managing Director, Alexander Dennis. 'Political leaders like Mayor Steve Rotheram deserve huge credit for the support they are providing to British bus manufacturers, recognizing we are a key contributor to growing the UK economy, and we look forward to working with the other mayoral combined authorities in future to bolster the electric bus revolution.'

In ‘great news' for Californians, chain plans two restaurants in Boise area
Boise's transformation into California restaurant-chain paradise shows no sign of slowing. With In-N-Out Burger fully entrenched in the area, and Wienerschnitzel having arrived, another Golden State brand is on the way. El Pollo Loco, which recently submitted a pre-application request with the city of Meridian to open a 2,000-square-foot restaurant at 3471 W. Chinden Blvd. (near the intersection with Ten Mile Road), now has plans for Nampa, too. The Mexican-style brand has leased 'over half an acre of land at Northside Boulevard and Nampa-Caldwell Boulevard,' according to a press release from Summit Commercial Real Estate Group. The address is 95 2nd St. South. Known for its 'famous citrus-marinated, fire-grilled chicken,' El Pollo Loco's Idaho moves are exciting transplants from California. When a Boise radio station posted about the Nampa lease on Facebook, enthusiastic online responses followed. In a comment that received 27 reactions, one person declared, 'I'm from California and this is great news!' 'Don't toy with me!!!' another commenter wrote. 'Their avocado salsa is insane!!! So good!!!' A 'SoCal staple,' as the chain refers to itself, El Pollo Loco was founded in 1974 — in Mexico. It now has more than 495 locations in seven states: California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Louisiana, according to a press release. If you've eaten at Fiesta Chicken — a similar local concept in Boise — you already have a grasp of El Pollo Loco's bird-focused menu. The chain serves delicious, if not addictive, chicken — in tacos, burritos, tostadas, salads, bowls and meals. A real-estate listing indicates the Nampa restaurant is 'opening soon,' but a publicist for El Pollo Loco did not immediately respond with information about a target date. In April, Tim Welsh, El Pollo Loco's chief development officer, provided a prepared statement about the Meridian store. 'We've been working with a franchise partner to bring El Pollo Loco's signature, fire-grilled chicken to the Boise area,' he said. 'We're excited to have identified a location and are optimistic we will have our entitlements approved in the coming months. While we don't yet have an opening date for this restaurant, we look forward to being part of the Meridian community in the near future.'

3 top ETFs from the London Stock Exchange to consider in June
Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) listed on the London Stock Exchange are a fantastic way to invest in themes inside an ISA. They also give instant exposure to a wide selection of companies, thereby helping to spread risk through diversification. Here are three ETFs spanning cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) and defence I think have tons of potential and are worth further research. First up is L&G Cyber Security UCITS ETF (LSE: ISPY). This fund holds 41 stocks across the increasingly relevant cybersecurity industry. In recent weeks, Marks and Spencer, Co-op and Harrods have all been hit by cyber attacks. On 27 May, Adidas was the latest firm to have customers' personal information stolen. This highlights how cybersecurity spending is now a necessity rather than a luxury for organisations of all sizes. The fund holds many top stocks in the space, including CrowdStrike, Cloudflare, and Palo Alto Networks. So far in 2025, CrowdStrike and Cloudflare are up 37% and 50% respectively. The ETF's share price is up 56% over the past two years. However, one consequence is that valuations are quite high across much of the portfolio. A risk here then is that the stock market pulls back, reducing the ETF's value in the near term. Over the long term though, I think it's set up for further gains. AI's creating an escalating arms race between cyber attackers (groups and nation states) and the defending companies in this ETF. Sticking with AI, I think the iShares AI Innovation Active UCITS ETF (LSE: IART) is well worth considering. According to McKinsey Global Institute, AI software and services alone are projected to generate $15.5trn-$22.9trn in annual economic value by 2040! As the name suggests, this ETF's invested in firms doing a lot of AI innovation today. Top holdings include chip king Nvidia, Microsoft, which has a large stake in ChatGPT maker OpenAI, and Meta, the social media giant that's using AI to improve targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram. Now, one thing worth pointing out is that this actively-managed ETF was only launched in January. So there's no track record of outperformance to go on, which adds a bit of risk. However, I like that among the 39 holdings there are some smaller innovative names in there. These have the potential to eventually become tech giants in their own right. Examples include cloud-based data firm Snowflake, gaming platform Roblox, and Cloudflare (again). The third fund is the HANetf Future of Defence ETF (LSE: NATO). Since launching in mid-2023, the share price has more than doubled. This ETF has a dual focus. It provides exposure to companies benefitting from both NATO military and cyber defence spending. Top holdings include Germany's Rheinmetall, the UK's BAE Systems, and AI software giant Palantir. While these stocks have been on fire recently, a cut to the US defence budget could hurt their upwards trajectory. Meanwhile, a global recession might lead to lower growth and earnings for some firms in the portfolio. On the other hand, European nations are now committed to spending hundreds of billions on building their long-neglected defence capabilities. This is a powerful multi-decade trend that's likely to push the ETF higher, over time. The post 3 top ETFs from the London Stock Exchange to consider in June appeared first on The Motley Fool UK. 'Exciting' London pub reopens after refurb with 8,000 sq ft garden
A newly reopened pub has unveiled an 8,000 sq ft garden as part of a £1 million investment. The Hammersmith Belle, leased by Belle Pubs & Hotels, has completed the latest stage of its major refurbishment, creating a garden area for 300 people. This includes beach huts, a children's play area with a castle, and an all-weather outdoor sports pergola featuring TVs for live sports viewings. Councillor Zarar Qayyum, cabinet member for enterprise and skills, and Saracens and England rugby player Rosie Galligan officially opened the garden on May 24. The grand opening was marked by a weekend-long garden party with food and drink tastings, children's face painting, and a jazz band performance. The pub is a short walk from Hammersmith and Ravenscourt Park stations, as well as the soon-to-be-opened Civic Centre. Jane White, managing director of Belle Pubs & Hotels, said: "We're excited to be unveiling our wonderful pub garden which we hope will become a popular destination for families, groups of friends and sports fans throughout the summer. "My grandmother lived in Hammersmith, just around the corner from the pub, and I have fond memories of visiting the local area during the summer holidays. "We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, fun community pub the whole family can enjoy. "And with our new garden, we look forward to welcoming even more customers to the Hammersmith Belle. "All we need now is for the British weather to stay kind to us." Inside, the pub has been transformed into a charming space, featuring an interior adorned with red and pink silk roses on the walls and artificial ivy and flowers on the ceiling. For sports fans, the pub boasts multiple TV screens and two super screens showing a variety of live national and international sporting events, from football and rugby to Formula One and cricket. Additionally, there's a Bull Hitters Winmau-branded darts lounge with five oches, making it a destination venue for darts enthusiasts. The pub was originally licensed in the 17th century as the Hog. It was renamed the Hampshire Hog before becoming an Indian restaurant. It reopened in January 2025 after being taken over by Belle Pubs & Hotels. The Hammersmith Belle is part of an area in Hammersmith benefiting from a revival, supported by local efforts to enhance the late-night economy and improve the streetscape. The pub is next to the new Civic Campus and the new Hammersmith Highline. Phase three of the £1 million refurbishment plan is expected to include the addition of 14 bed-and-breakfast accommodation rooms, planned for later this year. Mr Qayyum, said: "The Hammersmith Belle is a great pub and a much-loved part of Hammersmith's late-night economy. "We're committed to growing our late-night economy in Hammersmith & Fulham as it plays a vital role in providing jobs, attracting visitors, and offering social connection. "Not only will it support our thriving hospitality industry but it will also benefit the wider borough economy too."
