Mumbai couple harasses pizza delivery man for not speaking Marathi. Video sparks outrage
A couple in Mumbai was filmed harassing a pizza delivery agent for not being able to speak Marathi. In footage that has been widely circulated online, fanning the regional language row, the couple was seen repeatedly asking the pizza delivery agent to speak in Marathi even as he protested that he did not know the language.
According to an NDTV report, the incident took place on Monday at the Sai Radhe building in Bhandup, a suburb of Mumbai.
When pizza delivery agent Rohit Lavare landed at the couple's doorstep to deliver the pizza they had ordered, the couple reportedly began asking him to speak Marathi.
Their message to the delivery agent was clear: Speak Marathi or you will not be paid.
'Zabardasti hai Marathi bolne ka? Par kyun? (Is there some compulsion to speak Marathi? But why?' Lavare was seen asking in the video.
'Hai yahan pe aise hi hai (That's how it is here),' the woman replied, to which he shot back: 'Kaun bola aise hi hai? (Who says this is how it must be?)'
The delivery agent – associated with a popular pizza chain – was heard getting frustrated as the couple refused to pay. 'Nahi aata toh phir nahi order karne ka na. Nahi dena hai na paisa, haan theek hai, theek hai (If this was your condition then you shouldn't have ordered. You don't want to pay? Fine, fine),' he was heard saying.
The row escalated when the couple apparently claimed that the food they ordered was spoilt and refused to pay. The woman was also heard telling the delivery executive that he could not record them, while she could record him.
According to NDTV, the delivery agent had to eventually return without the money he was owed.
The video has sparked outrage online, with public opinion largely in favour of the delivery agent.
'As a Marathi I apologize to all Indians. This is not us,' wrote one X user. 'This Linguistic virus started in Tamil Nadu, then moved to Karnataka and now in Maharashtra. All these states are neighboring each other,' another said.
'What a shameless couple. Harassing a poor hardworking delivery guy. On a, flimsy pretext they are trying to get that pizza for free. Happy to see that the guy too is not relenting,' a user said.

"In touch with local authorities": Indian Consulate in US on video claiming Indian facing difficulties
New York [US], June 10 (ANI): The Indian Consulate General in New York issued a message regarding the difficulties being faced by an Indian national at the Newark Liberty International Airport. In a post on X, the Indian Consulate said that it came across social media posts that claimed that an Indian national was facing difficulties at the Newark Liberty International Airport. The consulate said that it is in touch with local authorities in this regard and remains committed to the welfare of Indian nationals. It was written on X, 'We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard. The Consulate remains ever committed to the welfare of Indian Nationals.' A viral video purportedly showed a person being held on the ground by two individuals. However, it was not clear what nationality they belonged to. On May 29, the Ministry of External Affairs in its press briefing informed that India has close cooperation with the United States on migration issues, particularly the deportation of Indian nationals with illegal status. It added that, since January 2025, approximately 1080 Indians have been deported from the United States, with around 62 per cent returning on commercial flights. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that, 'We have close cooperation between India and the United States on migration issues, on deportation of Indian nationals who are either in illegal status there or who travel illegally; we take them back once we receive details about them.' 'The update on the numbers is that since January of 2025, we have some 1080 Indians who have come back or who have been deported from the United States. Of these, around 62 per cent have come on commercial flights,' he added. Jaiswal also noted that India has seen reports suggesting the US government's updated guidance regarding Student and Exchange Visitor visa applicants. In response, MEA highlighted that the welfare of Indian students abroad remains of 'utmost priority' to the Government of India and India will 'continue' to follow further developments in this regard. 'While we note that issuance of a visa is a sovereign function, we hope that the application of Indian students will be considered a merit, and they will be able to join their academic programs on time,' Jaiswal added. AIYF leaders demand cancellation of IPL matches due to negative impact on youth and rise in betting
CPI affiliated All India Youth Federation (AIYF) Visakhapatnam district unit leaders and activists have demanded cancellation of IPL cricket matches across the country as they are spoiling the lives of the youth, especially students. The latest incident in which 11 youths died due to a stampede in Bengaluru is an example of the commercial sports programme and its direct impact on the youth and their lives, the activists said. Speaking to reporters at the Gandhi statue here on Monday, AIYF district president Y. Rambabu and secretary Achyutharao said that corporate companies have spoiled cricket by luring players with money to create a special cricket division called IPL. It has become a business event of these corporate bigwigs. In the name of sports, these IPL owners are running a sports programme where the youth and students are targetted. The youth are addicted to this commercial entertainment programme, and suffer huge financial and career losses, they added. In those days, government authorities used to organise One Day International (ODI) matches between countries, and the players and matches were entirely from a particular country, so those players inspired Indians. But in the case of these IPL matches, there are rivalries with Indian players when they represent different IPL franchises. They lamented that this creates an unhealthy situation in the minds of the youth. More importantly, during IPL matches, the youth fall for cricket betting. They said that many middle-class people are suffering from this evil act.

'Don't Want Compensation, Just Want Him Back': Man Seen Crying Over Son's Grave
Bengaluru: A father wailing while clinging to his 21-year-old son's grave has become the grim face of a celebration that turned to tragedy in Bengaluru. His son, Bhumik, was among the 11 people who were killed in the stampede on June 4. "I don't want the compensation, if someone can bring my son back, that would make me happy," DH Laxman, fighting back tears, told NDTV. Recalling the sequence of events that day, he said, "My son left for college in the morning. From there, his friend and he went to the stadium. He called up his mother and said, 'I haven't seen the stadium yet. I am going there." "The line got disconnected then. Later, we tried to call him, but it didn't go through," he added. Mr Laxman also accused the government of lapses in arrangements during the IPL victory celebration of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) that attracted lakhs of cricket fans to the Chinnaswamy Stadium, leading to the stampede. "The government knew everything; they knew the celebration continued till 11 pm, they knew the traffic situation, they knew everything. There was no need to organise the event on that day, but they still went ahead with it. There were not enough security arrangements. There was no ambulance facility. Which is why this tragedy happened," he said. On Sunday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah insisted that the "government did nothing wrong", adding that he was informed about the incident around 5.45 pm. "Though the injured were admitted to the hospital around 3.50 pm, I was informed around 5.45 pm that a stampede occurred near the stadium and people died. This shouldn't have happened -- it is deeply upsetting," he told reporters. When Mr Lakshman was asked if he was satisfied with the compensation amount of Rs 25 lakh, he said, "I don't want the compensation. If anyone could get me my son back, that would make me happy. I don't know anything about it. I was in my village for my son's funeral. I returned today. The haunting video showed Mr Laxman with his head pressed against his son's grave in his native village in Hassan district. "What happened to my son should not happen to anyone," he was heard saying. As two men were seen helping him up on his feet, he refused to leave. "I don't want to go anywhere else now. I want to stay here too". On Saturday, Siddaramaiah ordered an increase in the compensation announced for families of those who died in the tragedy from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. A day after the stampede, the Karnataka government announced the suspension of five senior police officers, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner. The move attracted condemnation from the opposition BJP, which claimed the government suspended police officers to save itself. The BJP has also been demanding the resignation of Siddaramaiah and his deputy DK Shivakumar. The Chief Minister has been accused of allowing the RCB to hold the event despite warnings issued by the Bengaluru Police. Siddaramaiah, however, brushed aside the accusations and said, "The event at Chinnaswamy Stadium was not a government programme and he was not invited." He said he was only invited to the felicitation event at the Vidhana Soudha where no untoward incident happened.
