Bill Gates Spills Where ‘Majority' of His Wealth Will Be Distributed
Bill Gates has revealed where he plans to distribute most of his wealth in the coming years. Speaking at the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the billionaire, who in a blog post last month announced that he would be giving his $200 billion fortune away to charity over the next 20 years, disclosed that he intends to funnel most of his wealth into philanthropic efforts in Africa. 'I recently made a commitment that my wealth will be given away over the next 20 years,' Gates said during the address. 'In fact, one thing that I haven't said publicly before is that if we think about the priorities and the great partnerships we have, the majority of that funding will be spent on helping you address challenges here in Africa.' 'By unleashing human potential through health and education, every country in Africa should be on a path to prosperity—and that path is an exciting thing to be part of,' the 69-year-old continued. In a blog post last month, the billionaire revealed that he intended to give away 'virtually all' of his fortune through his philanthropic organization, the Gates Foundation. At the time, the Microsoft co-founder noted that he anticipated the foundation would 'spend more than $200 billion' on charity efforts between 2025 and 2045, where it will then 'close its doors permanently.' 'People will say a lot of things about me when I die, but I am determined that 'he died rich' will not be one of them,' Gates wrote at the time. As of 2025, Gates' net worth stands at $175 billion, according to Bloomberg. Though Gates now spends most of time working on philanthropic projects through the Gates Foundation, he still acts as an advisor to Microsoft. The billionaire released his first memoir Source Code: My Beginnings earlier this year.
