Storm chances increase during Father's Day weekend

Storm chances increase during Father's Day weekend

Yahoo14 hours ago

Tonight features mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms off and on. Though storms should remain below severe thresholds, they will be capable of locally heavy rainfall as the atmosphere is loaded with moisture for these storms to utilize and be efficient rain producers. It's an unsettled and humid night ahead with low temperatures dropping back into the mid 60s.
Saturday provides a good risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with our approaching frontal boundary stalling nearby along the I-70 corridor in Ohio and Pennsylvania. The morning will be mostly quiet, but by midday, the combination of heat, humidity and our nearby front will produce downpours. There will be plenty of breaks between storms but expect to encounter a few downpours in the afternoon with highs around 80 degrees. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible once again.
Father's Day Sunday looks to provide the best risk for scattered showers and thunderstorms as an area of low pressure moves along the aforementioned stalled front north of us. This should give our region an uptick in rain chances, which will hold temperatures down into the upper 70s. Though severe weather chances with this kind of setup are pretty low overall, the threat for locally heavy rainfall will be something to watch between Friday and Monday. Any town that sees repeated downpours could see localized high water issues. This threat is expected to remain localized but storms should be efficient in producing heavy rainfall in our moisture-rich environment. The strongest storms could produce gusty wind and small hail.
Monday is another day that will be wet, particularly in the afternoon, with low pressure still close by. Scattered downpours will be a good bet and this threat along with increased cloud cover will keep high temperatures pinned down into the mid to upper 70s.
Tuesday sees that low pressure system and the stalled frontal boundary begin to exit the region. However, our area will still be in a warm and humid environment, so afternoon scattered showers and storms will still be a good bet, though more in the garden variety, with highs jumping back up to around 80 as a result of more sunshine than clouds and storms expected.
Sunscreen vs. sunblock: What's the difference, and which should you use?
Wednesday continues the primarily diurnal-driven scattered showers and thunderstorm chances that are typical of Appalachian summer with highs back up into the mid 80s.
Thursday sees a cold front pass during the afternoon and into the evening hours, which will provide a good bet for showers and thunderstorms once again. The air mass behind this front is cooler and should result in lower humidity for the weekend. Highs will be in the low 80s.

Friday provides a morning sprinkle but otherwise we will see sunshine and lower humidity with highs in the upper 70s.
Looking ahead in your extended forecast, the heat and humidity will continue and that will provide the risk for more afternoon scattered showers and storms. Temperatures will remain toasty in the 80s as our summer-like pattern continues, with low 80s on Saturday and mid 80s for Sunday into Monday.

Rain chances slip heading into the weekend in Central Florida

Our chances of rain are starting to slip as we enter the weekend. Dry air moving in from the Caribbean will reduce rain chances and lead to warmer temperatures for the next week. Saturday's best chance of rain is in the middle of the afternoon. Areas west of Orlando will have the best chance of rain during the afternoon. Severe weather is not expected, but can't be ruled out. If you see a stronger storm, the main impact will be 40 mph wind gusts. Father's Day is looking hot. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-90s. Rain chances will be higher near the coast. The dry conditions lead to this heat; we won't see many changes over the next week regarding afternoon highs. Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps. Warm front puts Father's Day into the 70s, chances for storms push into next week

Spotty showers roll into Minnesota early Saturday morning, but will exit to the east east, allowing for some dry time. However, the clouds stick around keeping highs in the mid to upper 60s. There's a chance for an isolated shower or storm Saturday evening, but it looks like a better chance for scattered storms arrives overnight and again on Sunday, Father's Day. With a warm front slowly lifting in the north, temperatures will be a bit warmer, sliding into the mid to upper 70s for Father's Day. Even more storms are expected into the early part of the work week, but timing the waves that far out is difficult at this time. Stay with WCCO as we continue to fine tune this part of the forecast. High temperatures will continue to trend up into the 80s for most of next week. Greatest rain totals look to be across central and southern Minnesota, where some places may see a total of two to four inches of rain. The end of next week looks a little drier as the pattern tries to break for some sunshine.
