Egypt keeps airspace open as Gulf states resume flights after Iran missile strike - Urban & Transport
Egypt's aviation authorities have confirmed that the country's airspace remains fully operational and unaffected by regional flight disruptions as Gulf countries begin reopening their skies following Iran's missile attack on a US military base in Qatar.
While airspace closures across the Gulf forced EgyptAir to suspend flights to several cities for a few hours earlier Monday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation stated later the same day that Egyptian airports were functioning normally, with no interruptions to domestic or international air traffic.
The statement came after Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates briefly closed their airspace in response to the Iranian strike on Al-Udeid airbase near Doha, the main hub for US Central Command operations in the region.
The attack, launched in retaliation for US airstrikes on Iranian territory, heightened fears of broader fallout for civilian aviation across the Middle East.
Egypt has placed its airports, including Cairo International, on high alert to handle any flights diverted from neighbouring countries. Authorities said staff and infrastructure are prepared to manage sudden increases in air traffic.
Flight operations across Egypt have continued without reported delays or incidents. The ministry said it was coordinating with international aviation bodies and local airlines to monitor developments and respond to any changes in regional airspace availability.
Airlines across the region have been adjusting schedules in response to the shifting security situation, as tensions between the US and Iran show little sign of easing.
