Warmer and drier weather returns Wednesday, Strong storms this weekend
Tonight, the upper-level low will finally begin to weaken and move northeast toward Ohio. The scattered showers and storms will gradually diminish this evening. Some storms could be strong to severe. The SPC has placed west and northwest Alabama in a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe storms. The threat is very low, but a storm may produce gusty winds and hail through 10 PM. More heavy rain is expected, increasing the flood risk.
Overnight, it will become partly cloudy with patchy fog and the possibility of just a stray shower. Lows will range from the upper 50s to the lower 60s.
The low will finally move away from Alabama on Wednesday, and a ridge of high pressure aloft will build south of the state. This will limit the amount of rain we receive to mainly northern Alabama on the southwest edge of the low. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warmer with highs in the middle 80s.
It will feel like summer on Thursday and Friday with unseasonably warm temperatures as the ridge settles across the Central Gulf. Thursday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 80s. Friday will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower. High temperatures will reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. This will create excellent weather for the first two rounds of the Regions Tradition at Greystone.
Weekend Outlook: The break from rain will end this weekend as a cold front moves into North Alabama and upper-level waves traverse the state. These waves will ride over the ridge of high pressure across the Central Gulf. Saturday will be partly cloudy with scattered storms. Some storms could be strong to severe with gusty winds and additional heavy rain. Highs will be in the middle 80s. Sunday will be very warm and humid with more scattered showers and storms as the front stalls across Central Alabama. High temperatures will be in the middle 80s.
