Terengganu MMEA detain fishing boat employing foreign crew without documents
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a local fishing vessel that employed crew without valid documents at a position about 23 nautical miles off the Kuala Terengganu estuary yesterday.
Its director Maritime Captain Hamiludin Che Awang said an inspection of the vessel by personnel on daily patrolling duty, revealed that four male crew, including the skipper were Myanmar nationals aged between 38 and 48, and did not possess valid documents.
"The crew was detained for committing offences under the Fisheries Act 1985 and the Immigration Act 1959/1963 in the 2pm incident.
"All of them, including the vessel, were brought to a maritime jetty to be handed over to investigating officers," he said in a statement today.
Hamiludin reminded fishing boat operators not to employ foreign crew without valid documents as he stressed that MMEA will not compromise with any party that violates Malaysian maritime laws.

Civil servant arrested for allegedly scratching neighbours' cars
AMPANG: A civil servant at a public university was arrested for allegedly scratching two neighbours' cars using a key in the parking area of their apartment in Taman Pandan Mewah here. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said the man, 41, is believed to have committed the offences on May 19 and 22, targeting two different cars parked at a particular spot. "The victims, both Malaysian women, had parked their vehicles in the same spot during the separate incidents," he said in a statement today. "On May 19, the victim found scratches on the front and rear right doors of her Honda, but could not identify the culprit. "In the second incident on May 22 about 1am, another victim's cousin parked a Toyota in the same spot and discovered scratches on the rear door about 6.40am." The victims later lodged complaints with the apartment's management, leading to a review of closed-circuit television footage that captured the man walking near the cars. "Following this, police detained the suspect at 5.35pm on Wednesday in the apartment parking area. A bunch of keys believed to have been used to scratch the cars were also seized." The suspect, a university clerk living in the same apartment, is not personally known to the victims. Azam said the motive remains under investigation. The man has no prior criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for causing mischief.

Motorcyclist killed after crashing into dog in Kampar
IPOH: A factory worker died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a dog and skidded off the road at Jalan Malim Nawar-Kota Bharu, Kampar, early on Sunday (June 8) morning. Kampar district police chief Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud said in the incident at 7.35am, the victim, Mohd Safaril Mohamed Anuar, 42, was seriously injured and died at the scene. "Investigations found that the victim was on his way from home to work at Hume Cement in Kota Bharu. "Upon reaching the location, the victim hit a dog that was crossing the road and skidded off the road," he said in a statement on Sunday. He said the victim's body had been sent to Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem, and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
