Texans 'absolutely open' to bring back Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs in free agency
While 25 players are set to hit free agency this offseason, the Houston Texans have one name listed above the rest.
Two-time All-Pro Stefon Diggs was en route to another 100-catch season before a torn ACL limited him to eight games. His departure left a hole in the passing attack and factored into regression from C.J. Stroud ahead of a 10-7 regular-season finish.
Diggs, whom the Texans traded for from Buffalo last offseason, built a strong rapport with Stroud and the locker room in his lone season. Players would love for the four-time Pro Bowl receiver to return in 2025 on a new deal as the No. 2 receiver opposite Nico Collins.
General manager Nick Caserio also isn't ruling out a reunion on a new contract. During his Wednesday appearance with SportsRadio 610's 'Payne & Pendergast,' Caserio said he'd be 'absolutely open' to bringing back Diggs before the new calendar year begins.
'We have good relationships with Stef and his representation,' Caserio said. 'We enjoyed having Stef in the building. So, the door is always open. A number of players have expressed sentiments and interest in potentially returning to our team next season. We never rule anything out, so we're going to be open-minded.'

Diggs, who caught 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns, should be considered one of the top pass-catchers on the market despite the season-ending injury.
Houston figured that Diggs would only be with the franchise for one year after converting his three-year extension signed with the Bills into a one-year, $22.5 million deal following the trade.
Of course, things have changed.
Second-year receiver Tank Dell suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 16 and is expected to miss the majority of the 2025 season. Outside of Collins, there isn't stability for the second receiver spot.
Negotiations with free agents can start on March 10, though no deal can be signed until the league year officially begins on March 12. Earlier this offseason, Stroud said he and Diggs were 'just finding their groove' when he suffered the torn ACL in mid-October.
'I would love to have Stef back,' the third-year quarterback said following the divisional-round loss to Kansas City. 'He's somebody that I would love to do this whole thing back with.'

When asked about a timeline, Caserio joked that a deal could be done leading up to the combine next week in Indianapolis.
'Things will probably pick up here over the next few weeks and obviously when you have, we'll call it the legal tampering period, which will be preceded by the illegal tampering period which will take place at the Combine, we'll probably have a pretty good idea of kind of where everybody is going to situate and what the market looks like,' Caserio said.

Shorthanded attack dooms Revolution, as Cincinnati wins at Gillette to end nine-match unbeaten run
Despite being credited with 74 percent of the possession in the second half, New England (6-5-5, 23 points) managed just five shots after the break, none of which much threatened Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano. Its two best chances after halftime were a turnaround shot from substitute Maxi Urruti, which screamed past the top corner in the 71st minute, and a stoppage-time free kick from Carles Gil into the top netting. The Revolution were credited with just two shots on target for the match — a 12th-minute rip from Tomás Chancalay set up by Gil and Miller, and a bounding Matt Polster shot soon after halftime right at Celentano. Advertisement Up front, coach Caleb Porter turned to Chancalay and Luis Diaz, whose first MLS start since October 2022 included being dispossessed on a 52nd-minute breakaway without managing at attempt on Celentano. 'Probably the biggest moment that we really need to turn into a goal,' Porter said. Cincinnati's Lukas Engel (left) ran down New England's Luis Diaz in the second half, preventing him from putting a shot on goal. New England Revolution He brought on Urruti as support in the 64th minute, replacing right back Brayan Ceballos, who had picked up a yellow card in the 16th. Lacking another offensive option, however, Porter chose midfielder Jackson Yueill when Chancalay came off in the 80th. 'Honestly, I don't know what more you can do. We subbed on every attacking player we had available,' Porter said. 'We kept throwing the kitchen sink at them. We kept huffing and puffing and we just couldn't blow the house down.' The 80 minutes represented the most game action for the Argentine since returning in April from ACL surgery. Cincinnati (10-5-3, 33 points), which had allowed 10 goals in a four-match winless stretch before Saturday, produced its winner on the counterattack. Veteran Kei Kamara wheeled around New England's Tanner Beason with a deft touch, carrying into the Revolution end. The ball eventually got to Denkey in the penalty area. Blocked by the returning Ceballos, who'd missed a pair of matches with a head injury, Denkey passed across the field to Luca Orellano. New England had eight corners to Cincinnati's three on Saturday, and a 10-9 edge in shots. Aljaz Ivacic was credited with two saves, as well as stopping a pair of close-range deflections off teammates in the opening 10 minutes. Celtics rival has ‘mutual intrigue' with sitting head coach (report)
When the Knicks fired coach Tom Thibodeau after their best playoff run in 25 years, it was clear New York was looking to take the next step toward competing for a title. While there's no clear frontrunner for the job, a current sitting head coach has reportedly shown some interest in the opening. Per ESPN's Brian Windhorst, there's 'mutual intrigue' between the Knicks and Mavericks coach Jason Kidd. Now, that doesn't mean New York will get a deal done. The Knicks will also have to request to interview Kidd, which the Mavs could deny. So there are still moving parts as the Knicks look for their next head coach. Advertisement The Mavs are in an interesting spot in the wake of the stunning Luka Doncic trade. They have the No. 1 pick and a chance to draft Cooper Flagg, along with stars like Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving on the roster. But that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be competing for a championship next season as Irving is also coming off a torn ACL. Kidd also reportedly didn't enjoy being the spokesperson for the Mavs after the Doncic trade. The Hall of Fame guard just finished his fourth season in Dallas which includes an appearance in the 2024 NBA Finals. If Kidd ends up in New York, it could be after he's traded, which has happened a handful of times in league history. Regardless, there's naturally a lot of rumors when it comes to the Knicks job. They have a win-now roster, though that also means a lot of pressure. But even though Kidd has been mentioned in rumors, New York will still have to jump through some hoops to hire him if he's available. More Celtics content Read the original article on MassLive.

Twins place Royce Lewis on injured list, Byron Buxton leaves game with elbow injury
HOUSTON (AP) — The Minnesota Twins placed third baseman Royce Lewis on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left hamstring strain. Also on Saturday, center fielder Byron Buxton left the game against the Astros in the seventh inning with a bruised left elbow after being hit by a pitch an inning earlier. Lewis was injured running to first base on a single in the ninth inning of Friday night's 10-3 loss to Houston and had an MRI on Saturday. A team spokesman announced the move during Saturday's game and said they'd have more information after the game. The injury to Lewis comes after he missed the first 35 games of the season with a moderate strain of the same hamstring that occurred running out a ground ball in spring training. Lewis, the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, has been plagued by injuries in his career. He played just 82 games last season while missing time with a severe quadriceps strain and a groin injury. Those injuries came after he tore the ACL in his right knee in both 2021 and 2022. Lewis, who homered Friday night, is hitting .202 with two home runs and nine RBIs in 30 games this season. Houston starter Hunter Brown plunked Buxton on the left elbow to start the sixth inning. He was looked at by a trainer but remained in the game before being replaced in center field by Harrison Bader in the bottom of the seventh. ___ AP MLB:
