AMD unveils new Threadripper CPUs and Radeon GPUs for gamers at Computex 2025
During Computex 2025, Advanced Micro Devices held a press event to introduce its Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics cards and Threadripper CPUs for next-gen gaming.
With up to 16 GB GDDR6 memory, the new GPUs unlock new levels of performance while delivering a suite of new and enhanced features for next-gen gaming, the company said.
AMD said it is extending its leadership in high-performance computing by unveiling new graphics and workstation products engineered to address the toughest workloads in gaming, content creation, professional industries, and AI development.
The company unveiled the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9000 WX‑Series and AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000 Series processors built on 'Zen 5' architecture—led by the Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9995WX with 96 cores / 192 threads—deliver unmatched multi‑threaded performance, leadership efficiency, and enterprise‑grade AMD PRO Technologies, empowering professionals to bring complex visions to life faster.
The Radeon AI PRO R9700 is built for AI-powered workstations. It delivers up to 4X more throughput than the previous generation, as well as expanded AMD ROCm on Radeon support, bringing high‑performance GPU acceleration to a broader range of AI and compute workloads for advanced AI development.AMD also strengthens its partnership with ASUS and will introduce the new ASUS Expert P Series Copilot+ PCs, the next-generation commercial PCs bringing AI acceleration to the enterprise.

M&A News: AMD Continues Buying Spree by Acquiring Untether AI's Engineering Team
Chipmaker AMD (AMD) has, for an undisclosed amount, acquired the engineering team from Untether AI, which is a Canadian startup known for developing energy-efficient AI inference chips for edge devices and data centers. According to CRN, the team will now focus on improving AMD's AI software, chip design, and system integration. Untether AI, which will no longer sell its speedAI chips or software, said it was proud of its innovations and looks forward to contributing to AMD. Confident Investing Starts Here: This acquisition follows AMD's recent purchase of compiler startup Brium, as part of its plan to better compete with Nvidia (NVDA). Interestingly, Untether AI's chips, built on an 'at-memory' architecture, had shown significant gains in performance and energy efficiency. Indeed, its speedAI240 Slim card, for example, delivered industry-leading results in MLPerf benchmarks while using less power than competing solutions. The card had already been adopted by companies like J-Squared Technologies and Ola-Krutrim, with the latter having also partnered with Untether to co-develop next-gen data center solutions. Furthermore, Untether AI had built partnerships with firms like Ampere Computing, Arm (ARM), and NeuReality. This was because its chips addressed a growing demand for AI processors that consume less power than traditional GPUs, which are straining modern data center power limits. Nevertheless, AMD will now integrate Untether's expertise into its product portfolio in order to help expand its AI capabilities across a wider range of markets. Is AMD a Buy, Sell, or Hold? Instead, the event will focus on design and productivity enhancements for its long-established operating system franchises. The company's keynote address will introduce redesigned software interfaces for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch, in addition to more minor tweaks to the Vision Pro headset. As part of the end-to-end overhaul, the company is also making a sweeping change to its software branding, which will shift from version numbers to a year-based system. That means Apple will introduce iOS 26, iPadOS 26, tvOS 26, visionOS 26, macOS 26 and watchOS 26 – named for 2026. Internally, the operating systems are known as Luck, Charisma, Discovery, Cheer and Nepali, respectively, the author notes. The AI changes will be surprisingly minor and are 'unlikely to impress' industry watchers, especially considering the rapid pace of innovation by Alphabet's (GOOGL) Google, Meta Platforms (META), Microsoft (MSFT) and OpenAI, the publication adds. Apple's upcoming conference is expected to demonstrate how far behind the company is in the AI sector, Dan Gallagher of The Wall Street Journal reports. AI EFFORTS: Wells Fargo raised the firm's price target on Shopify (SHOP) to $125 from $107 and keeps an Overweight rating on the shares. While not typically perceived as an AI play, the firm believes Shopify's AI efforts are differentiated and can serve as another important growth and efficiency driver for years to come.

Why Samsara (IOT) Shares Are Plunging Today
Shares of internet of Things company Samsara (NYSE:IOT) fell 5.1% in the afternoon session after the company reported mixed first quarter 2025 (fiscal 2026) results with billings falling below expectations. The weakness was also evident in its slower sales forecast, which indicates a noticeable decline from the better growth rate it just delivered. On the other hand, Samsara provided optimistic EPS guidance for the next quarter, which beat analysts' expectations. In addition, its EBITDA outperformed Wall Street's estimates by a wide margin. Overall, we think this was a mixed yet weaker quarter. The shares closed the day at $45.10, down 4.8% from previous close. Samsara's shares are very volatile and have had 21 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business. The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 9 months ago when the stock gained 17.2% on the news that the company reported a "beat and raise" quarter. Samsara beat analysts' revenue, adjusted operating income, and EPS expectations this quarter. Notably, the top line grew by 37% year on year, benefiting from expansion from existing customers and new business wins. Looking ahead, it raised its full-year guidance for revenue, adjusted operating income, and EPS. Overall, this was a splendid quarter. Samsara is up 1.8% since the beginning of the year, but at $44.78 per share, it is still trading 26.5% below its 52-week high of $60.96 from February 2025. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Samsara's shares at the IPO in December 2021 would now be looking at an investment worth $1,813. Unless you've been living under a rock, it should be obvious by now that generative AI is going to have a huge impact on how large corporations do business.
