Makram scored 136 runs for South Africa in the 2nd innings of the WTC 2025 final and, for his super show with the bat, won the POTM award.
Aiden Markram scored 136 runs from 207 balls for South Africa in the second innings to help them chase down the target of 282 runs and secure a famous win by five wickets over Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final. For his super batting show at the Lord's, the 30-year-old right-handed batter won the Player of the Match award.
During his stay at the crease, Markram hammered 14 fours and added 147 runs for the third wicket with captain Temba Bavuma (66 runs).
The record stand between the two batters helped South Africa end their 27-year-old long wait for a second ICC title.
After South Africa stunned Australia at the Home of Cricket to become the third team to win the WTC title, star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant took to X to share a post in which he congratulated 'brother' Markram for his 'great knock.'
'Well played, Aiden brother . I am so happy for you—what a great knock under pressure. You have made us all proud and congratulations to South Africa on lifting the WTC mace," Pant captioned the photo tweet.

Markram was part of the Lucknow Super Giants team in IPL 2025 and played under Pant's leadership in the cash-rich league this year. The captain of South Africa's T20I team was on fire for the Lucknow-based franchise in IPL 2025, and with the help of five half-centuries, he amassed a total of 445 runs in 13 matches and also picked up four wickets.
Markram creates history
Markram failed to open his account in the first innings of the WTC 2025 final, but in the second, he made the opportunity count by keeping Aussie bowlers at bay. He completed his century by hitting Josh Hazlewood for a four on the fifth ball of the 55th over on Friday. The century at Lord's helped Markram become the first South African batter to score a century in the final of any ICC event. A total of 15 batters have scored 16 centuries in ICC finals, but Markram is the only one to achieve the feat for the Proteas.
