Pat Freiermuth embraces chance to learn behind Mason Rudolph or Aaron Rodgers
As the Pittsburgh Steelers look to make 2025 the fifth straight year with a new starting quarterback at the helm, TE Pat Freiermuth is looking to make the most of the opportunity.
While most offensive players might be sick of having to readjust to a brand-new signal-caller every year, Freiermuth recently argued on The Christian Kuntz Podcast that it's actually been a good thing for him—as he's been able to learn new aspects of the game from both Ben Roethlisberger and Russell Wilson.
The big Steelers tight end even elaborated on what it would be like to learn behind Mason Rudolph in 2025—or even the rumored acquisition of four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers:
"Yeah, I mean, so like whoever we get—like if it's Aaron, like whoever it is—even Mason—like Mason has his things, like Aaron has his things. It's gonna be cool to learn from all these guys, so I just take it and embrace it just to kind of, you know, understand more of the game of football, because everyone sees it a different way."
Everyone definitely does see it in a different way—as Freiermuth's optimistic outlook couldn't have come at a more perfect time. It was recently reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room may be growing disheartened by the lack of clarity surrounding the quarterback position in 2025.

Aaron Rodgers is a married man
PITTSBURGH — There were plenty of storylines coming out of Pittsburgh Steelers camp Tuesday regarding their newest employee, one Aaron Charles Rodgers, but the biggest news might be this: Rodgers is a married man. Speculation about Rodgers' marital status grew last week when, while signing his new one-year deal with the Steelers, Rodgers sported a black ring on his wedding finger. When asked about it during a news conference Tuesday, Rodgers confirmed the news. Advertisement "Yeah, it's a wedding ring," Rodgers said, nonchalantly, adding that he's been married now for "a couple months." Not much is known about who Rodgers married. He dropped the name of a girlfriend named Brittani during an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show" in December. It's unclear if the woman he recently married is the same girlfriend. For months, Rodgers kept the NFL world and most pointedly the Steelers guessing about his status for next season as he dealt with self-described personal matters, saying in May on "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast that someone close to him is battling cancer. Rodgers' personal life has been fodder for the tabloids (and sports pages) for years. He's dated actress Olivia Munn, race car driver Danica Patrick and was engaged for a period to actress Shailene Woodley.

Will Howard 'fired up' to learn from Aaron Rodgers as his backup QB
Aaron Rodgers' arrival in Pittsburgh will improve the Steelers' chances of winning this season. But, his presence will also boost the future of their quarterback room. Prior to Rodgers officially signing a one-year deal with Pittsburgh on Saturday, the Steelers were set to rely on unproven and inexperienced play-callers such as Mason Rudolph and rookie Will Howard. If they hadn't landed Rodgers, those two might have been using this current minicamp period as a battleground for the starting job. Instead, the veteran Rodgers will offer a source of consistency on the field and take those younger gunslingers under his wing, to potentially leave the franchise in a better place than when he got there. Howard, especially, has potential. He led Ohio State to a College Football Playoff National Championship victory in 2025 before Pittsburgh selected him in the sixth round of April's NFL draft. "Will's a good kid," Rodgers told reporters on Tuesday during his first media availability in Pittsburgh. "I'm going to be with him every single day, in every single meeting … I'm going to help him out as much as I can." Rodgers has a lot to offer. The 41-year-old is entering his 21st year in the NFL, and has two MVPs and a Super Bowl victory to show for it. But, before accomplishing any of that, he found himself in the same spot as Howard is now — backing up a Hall of Famer. Rodgers spent the first three years of his career with the Packers backing up Brett Favre. He had to put aside his ego and learn from one of the game's great quarterbacks. That experience put him in a position to succeed. Then, after earning the starting job in 2008, he led Green Bay on a Super Bowl run two years later. Howard recognizes the valuable opportunity, as well. "I'm fired up," he said Tuesday about learning from Rodgers. "He's a guy I grew up watching, idolizing. It's cool to be in the same room as him. He's a legend in this game. I'm gonna try and learn as much as I can from him and be the best support guy I can be for him. It's amazing." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Aaron Rodgers already has major complaint with the Steelers, and it's not what you'd expect
Aaron Rodgers is excited to start his new journey with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he already has one complaint. He hates his helmet. "I can't stand the helmet," Rodgers told reporters on Tuesday, as he's no longer allowed to wear the Schutt model he has usually sported throughout his career. "I've worn a Schutt for 20 years and somehow it finally didn't pass the safety standard." Rodgers sported a Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD during his games last season, which is rare when it comes to helmets in the NFL. Only Joe Flacco, Thomas Morstead and Nick Folk wore the same model. Rodgers is no stranger to changing his helmet, as he seemed to be fine with it in 2019 when he was forced to find a different model. But the second time around, he's finding it an issue. Now, Rodgers has time once more to find a new helmet being that it is only mandatory minicamp right now. But, whether Rodgers likes it or not, the NFL's top priority is safety. As new helmet technology gets developed, older models of helmets will be obsolete. Rodgers has only been with the Steelers for a few days, but he's already made a few headlines at minicamp. The biggest of them all was him revealing his wedding ring to reporters on Tuesday, claiming he had been with his partner for "a couple months." Speculation about Rodgers being married has been swirling since photos from the Steelers announcing his signing went viral. He was wearing the same band on his left hand. The woman Rodgers married remains a mystery, but he did claim on the "Pat McAfee Show" in December that he was dating a woman named "Brittani." Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Steelers reportedly worth up to $19.5 million with incentives. The four-time MVP has a $10 million guarantee in his deal, per ESPN. The announcement by the Steelers ended a long offseason journey that had many believing Rodgers would end up in Pittsburgh as quarterback-needy teams found options elsewhere. When the Steelers waited until the sixth round to take a quarterback (Will Howard), all signs pointed to Rodgers joining head coach Mike Tomlin's group. Now that he is with the team at minicamp, Rodgers will try to get acclimated with his new weapons, including D.K. Metcalf, who was traded by the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. But he will also need to figure out what new model of helmet he can be comfortable in this season.
