Here's what we know about some of the people killed in Wednesday night's crash:
From the Skating Club of Boston
Skaters Jinna Han and Spencer Lane were among those killed, according to Doug Zeghibe, CEO of the Skating Club of Boston. Their mothers, Jin Han and Christine Lane, as well as their coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov also died.
Han and Lane, who was about 16, were returning from the US Figure Skating Championships.
'We watched Jinna just grow up here from just a tiny little tyke into this amazingly mature 13-year-old,' he said. 'A great performer, a great competitor, and off the ice, a great kid.'
Spencer Lane, who was from Barrington, Rhode Island, took part in his first professional show in December with Elin Schran's company, Joy Skate Productions.
'He started to discover this connection with the audience and that joy that he was giving to other people through his gift,' Schran said.
In a statement, the Lane family recalled Christine Lane for both her singular talents and her dedication to parenting.
'Christine exuded creativity throughout her life, using her formal graphic design training as a jumping-off point for seemingly endless creative pursuits across areas such as photography, quilting, knitting, and more. She brought even greater passion to her role as a mother to Spencer and his brother Milo,' the family said.

Their coaches, Shishkova and Naumov, won the pairs title at the 1994 world championships in Chiba, Japan. The Russia-born pair also competed twice in the Olympics.
More young athletes and coaches
Skating organizations in Philadelphia and the Washington area also said some of their young athletes had been aboard the plane.
Several athletes on the flight had attended a development camp held after the US Figure Skating Championships ended Sunday in Wichita, Kansas.
Wichita Skating Center manager Sean O'Reilly said the championships brought a 'groundswell of positivity,' drawing enthusiastic parents and young athletes from across the US. He was 'gutted' to learn some of those skaters had been killed.
In Virginia's Loudoun County, a coach at a skating club was also identified as among the passengers, Virginia Rep. Suhas Subramanyam confirmed. The club, Ashburn Ice House, said that its 'figure skating community has been directly affected,' but did not give further details.
Students and parents
Cedarville University in Ohio said one of the passengers on the plane was Grace Maxwell, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering.
Maxwell's father, Dean Maxwell, said she was returning to campus from her home in Wichita, Kansas, after attending her grandfather's funeral, The Wichita Eagle reported.
Grace Maxwell had been working on project this semester to create a hand-stabilizing device to help a boy in the area feed himself instead of rely on others, the university said in a statement.
'Grace was a quiet person with a keen interest in helping others through engineering,' said Tim Norman, who served as her secondary advisor.

Three other students from schools in Fairfax County, Virginia, and six parents from the district were also on board the plane, superintendent Michelle Reid said in a letter to families. She did not identify them, but she said the students were from different schools and that two of the parents were current or former district staffers.
Chinese citizens and a cop from the Philippines
Philippine Police Col. Pergentino Malabed Jr., who headed the supply management division of the national police, was among the dead. He had traveled to the U.S. to inspect equipment the Philippines was planning to purchase for its 232,000-member force, according to the Philippine police.
'His untimely passing is a profound loss to the Philippine National Police, where he served with honor, with integrity and dedication throughout his career,' police spokesperson Col. Randulf Tuaño said in a statement.
The Chinese Embassy in the U.S. said two Chinese nationals were also among the victims. It did not offer further details. The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered its condolences for the crash victims and requested the US to 'promptly report any progress with the search and rescue, and find out the cause of the accident as soon as possible.'
Hunters who were headed home from a trip
Seven people returning from a guided hunting trip in Kansas were killed, according to a Facebook post by Fowl Plains, the guide service.
The Fowl Plains team said they had grown close to the hunters on board the flight over the years and considered them to be family members. The post doesn't identify the hunters by name, but it says they had spent the past week on a guided hunt, 'laughing, talking about our families and sharing memories.'
'Heartbroken is an understatement,' the company said.

Members of a Maryland union
Those killed also included four steamfitters, all members of a United Association union local in suburban Maryland, union leaders said in a social media post Thursday.
'Our focus now is on providing support and care to the families of our Brothers as we continue to gather more information in the coming days,' said the post by UA General President Mark McManus and Chris Madello, the business manager of Local 602.
From the military
The victims also include three soldiers who were aboard the helicopter.
Officials said their remains will be at Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. That office coordinates the dignified transfer of fallen service members.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss details not yet announced. No identities of the crew have been released.
But the wife of one of the helicopter pilots said on Facebook that her husband, Andrew Eaves of Noxubee County Mississippi, was killed. In a phone call, Carrie Eaves confirmed the post was hers.
'We ask that you pray for our family and friends and for all the other families that are suffering today. We ask for peace while we grieve,' her post read.
The three soldiers were doing an annual night proficiency training flight, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, adding they were a 'fairly experienced crew.' Officials were notifying relatives, he said.
Casey reported from Boston and Geller reported from New York. Associated Press journalists Summer Ballentine in Columbia, Missouri; Margery Beck in Omaha, Nebraska; Christine Fernando in Chicago; Hannah Fingerhut in Des Moines, Iowa; Nicholas Ingram in Wichita; Safiyah Riddle in Montgomery, Alabama; Rio Yamat in Las Vegas; and John Seewer in Toledo, Ohio, contributed.

PR-savvy and now finally a knight - Beckham always knew how to turn on the charm
A sporting icon courted by prime ministers past and present, newly knighted Sir David Beckham is renowned for being extremely media savvy. Never more so than when I interviewed him for Sky News at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, after he took part in the closing ceremony having played a key role in London's winning bid to host the 2012 Games. Speaking about Sir Alex Ferguson in the interview, canny Sir Becks heaped praise on his old boss in our interview. But he'd been less complimentary about his old boss in a conversation with prime minister , I later learned. I'd travelled to Beijing with Mr Brown, via Afghanistan, and we spent the final evening of the Games at the handover party, when - then London mayor - famously spoke in his speech about "wiff waff" (table tennis) coming home. During his Beijing visit, Mr Brown had been promoting the idea of a Great Britain football team competing at the 2012 Games and there was speculation about being the team's coach. "Aah, Sir Alex," Becks said wistfully and apparently affectionately when I asked him about being re-united with his former Manchester United manager during the interview. "Like a father to me." Later, on the flight home to the UK, when I told Gordon Brown about the interview, the prime minister laughed. "That's funny," he said. "Why?" I asked him. He replied: "He told me 'If Sir Alex is manager, he won't pick me!'" played for Fergie at Manchester United from 1995 until 2003, when he joined Real Madrid amid claims that Ferguson disapproved of the player's showbiz lifestyle. By 2008 he was playing for LA Galaxy in the US. But despite his canny, PR-savvy answers in my interview, I saw him work the room that night in Beijing and glad-hand relentlessly. He gave every interview asked of him and turned on the charm on behalf of UK PLC to everyone present. For politicians and prime ministers, sportsmen and women like Beckham are pure gold. was also a fan and was photographed sitting alongside Becks at the London Games. When "Goldenballs", as wife Victoria called him, retired from football a year later, a No 10 spokesman gushed: "The prime minister's view is that David Beckham has been an outstanding footballer throughout his career. "But not only that, he has been a brilliant ambassador for this country, not least if we remember all the work he did on helping us win London 2012." Read more from Sky News: There was indeed a Great Britain men's football team at the Olympics, but it was coached by former England legend Stuart Pearce, not Sir Alex. And Pearce, nicknamed "psycho" for his aggressive style on the pitch, didn't pick Becks either, though he claimed he'd faced pressure from Downing Street to include him. Then in 2017, David Cameron's former spin doctor Craig Oliver claimed a senior Tory cabinet minister - thought to have been - suggested giving Becks a peerage and appointing him sports minister in a 2013 cabinet reshuffle. That never happened either, obviously, though at least - just like his "father figure" Sir Alex.

And the Emmy goes to ... Phillies star Trea Turner? Documentary on Turner's ovation wins Emmy Award
PHILADELPHIA -- And the Emmy goes to ... Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner? Turner already won an NL batting title and a World Series championship ring in his 11-year MLB career. How about adding an Emmy Award to that trophy case? 'Trea Turner's an Emmy winner, absolutely,' sports documentary producer Kyle Thrash said. 'He definitely held it up like he owned it.' Turner may not actually have the award in hand to keep for good, but he got to hoist the real deal ahead of Friday's game against Toronto in a short celebration for the Emmy won for a best sports short documentary produced on the 2023 standing ovation credited with turning around his season. 'The Turnaround' won a sports Emmy in May and Thrash and Phillies fan Jon McCann — whose personal struggles with mental health and kinship with Turner were the heart of the film — attended the game to show off their new bling to Turner. 'Cuz, we did it, huh?! 'McCann said as he shook Turner's hand on the field after batting practice. 'Trea Turner, we share an Emmy together.' Turner read the inscription at the bottom of the Emmy and promised the fans he would wave to them in section 301 if he stole a base in Friday's game. 'We get to bring a trophy back to the ballpark tonight and share it with so many people that were involved in the standing ovation. It's pretty incredible,' Thrash said. Philly sports fans — often billed as some of the worst in sports — gave a slumping Turner standing ovations in at-bats throughout the weekend in an August 2023 series to show he had their full support. Turner was in the first season of an 11-year, $300 million deal with the Phillies but was batting just .238 with 11 home runs and 39 RBIs. He was even dropped to eighth in the batting order headed into that series against Kansas City. In three games over the weekend against the Royals, Turner went 4 for 12 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs and he would eventually help lead the Phillies to the playoffs. Turner later helped pay for 'Thank You, Philly" digital billboards in the greater Philadelphia area. The documentary was produced by Higher Ground, the media company founded by former President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama McCann, also known as 'The Philly Captain," is a Philadelphia based YouTuber and was one of the fans — along with a Philly sports talk radio host — credited with rallying the fans to get behind Turner. 'During the ceremony, one of the award presenters said, 'When you go up against the Olympics, you lose.' So I kind of thought we already lost,' McCann said. 'We didn't. It was a great, great shock.'

Port Moody to plan FIFA 2026 viewing parties at Rocky Point Park
Port Moody is already getting FIFA fever. Council is kicking off early preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with plans to host public viewing events for up to 10 games at Rocky Point Park next summer, including all of Canada's matches as well as the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals. City council unanimously approved the proposal at its June 10 meeting, directing staff to return by September with a full project plan and budget. Mayor Meghan Lahti, who introduced the motion, described the initiative as a rare opportunity to foster community spirit around a global event. 'This is kind of a fun thing,' she said. 'There is lots of time between now and then to organize.' The motion instructs staff to explore one-time funding sources – including surplus funds, grants, and sponsorships – to support costs related to licensing, audiovisual equipment, staffing, and security. It also asks staff to notify existing park partners like the Golden Spike Days Society, the Summer Sunday Concert Series, and the Rotary Club of Port Moody about the city's intentions to use part of the park during the weeklong window starting on June 13. Coun. Callan Morrison raised the possibility of inviting local charities to set up small booths for snacks and drinks. 'It's a great community gathering opportunity,' he said. 'Everybody around those international events – whether it be Olympics or FIFA – gets behind Team Canada.' While council was generally enthusiastic, they also raised practical concerns. Though the motion does suggest using an east-facing temporary screen to allow for visibility during afternoon and evening matches, Coun. Haven Lurbiecki worried it might still be hard to see. Coun. Kyla Knowles asked staff to consider diverse funding ideas, including donations, to help offset the expense: 'I'm not necessarily trying to turn this into a revenue-generating operation, but just to cover costs.' Morrison called for heat-mitigation plans such as shaded seating. 'It could be very, very hot,' he said, suggesting the use of bleachers and shaded areas that don't obstruct views. Lahti responded that bringing the idea forward now gives staff 'an opportunity to really think about this and to come back with something that's ultimately going to be the best-case scenario for the community.' Council also debated the location. Coun. Samantha Agtarap floated the idea of rotating some games through other city parks, while Coun. Kyla Knowles suggested showcasing some of the city's other parks, specifically pointing to some shadier options in the Glenayre neighbourhood. But Lahti emphasized the importance of accessibility. 'We want it to be central so people can take transit or the shuttle,' she said, noting that Rocky Point Park has the most space and is better equipped to handle larger crowds. Coun. Diana Dilworth suggested involving the Port Moody Soccer Club. 'They are hardcore soccer fans and I'm sure they would love to be a part of it,' she said. Staff is tasked with developing a comprehensive proposal, evaluating costs, equipment needs, and logistics. The aim, Lahti said, is to: 'support our community and bring people together.' Error!
