Smokey Robinson Hits Back With $500M Defamation Suit Against 'Fabricated' Rape Claims By Ex-Employees

Yahoo28-05-2025

In a $500 million defamation and elder abuse action of their own, Smokey Robinson and his wife are now going after the four former employees who have accused the Motown legend of rape in a $50 million lawsuit.
'The Robinsons did not abuse, harm or take advantage of plaintiffs; they treated plaintiffs with the utmost kindness and generosity,' a countersuit filed Wednesday in L.A. Superior Court asserts of the Jane Does. 'Unfortunately, the depths of plaintiffs' avarice and greed knows no bounds.'

Self-described 'living legend' Robinson and his attorney Christopher Frost claim that the women tried at first to get $100 million out of the singer and his spouse for their silence on the 'fabricated' claims. The four supposedly only turned to the courts when they were rebuffed by the Robinsons. Today's countersuit makes note of Robinson's new What The World Needs Now album that came out in late April and the fallout the rape accusations and legal action has had on the performer's career the past month.
Filed back on May 6, the 16-claim civil action alleges that the 85-year-old Robinson individually raped each of the four women several times in his homes in Las Vegas, Chatsworth and Bell Canyon in Ventura County over the years. With description of the 'Cruisin'' singer making sure to take a shower before the attacks and carefully laying a towel on the bed to prevent stains, Jane Doe 1, Jane Doe 2, Jane Doe 3 and Jane Doe 4's stories are nearly identical.
They all also say that Frances Robinson, who has been married to 'The Tears of a Clown' singer since 2002, knew what her husband was doing and did nothing to stop it. In fact, the women, who the Robinsons termed 'extended family' in their countersuit, insist Frances Robinson also ripped off the housekeepers on their wages and more in a 'hostile work environment.' Since the $50 million rape suit was filed earlier this month, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has begun its own criminal probe into Robinson, as the cops confirmed on May 15.
Turning the spotlight to a press conference that the four women and their Hayden & Harris lawyers gave on May 6, the same day they filed their civil action, the Robinsons declare now that the plaintiffs forced them to sue back and, in a separate motion, sought to have the initial suit tossed out. 'Because of Plaintiffs' slanderous statements, the Robinsons had no choice but to seek legal relief,' today's filing says. 'Plaintiffs may be able to make slanderous statements in a legal pleading (for now), but they are not entitled to do so in gratuitous, self-serving press conferences.'
Citing a litany of assistance from dental work to cars and more that the Robinsons say they gave the women during the time they worked for the couple, today's countersuit also not so subtly accuses the quartet of having some strategically sticky fingers.
'Shortly after the Plaintiffs left their jobs, Ms. Robinson discovered that several of her financial records (including bank statements) were missing, the 10-claim countersuit says. 'At least one Plaintiff had access to and knew exactly where these records were kept. In that vein, Wednesday's countersuit adds of the women: 'As a result of their roles as household staff, they had particular knowledge of where the Robinsons' valuables were kept, including a hidden safe and gold Krugerrands. That safe and the valuables it contained and several gold Kruggerands were later stolen by someone who knew precisely where they were located. The Robinsons reported the theft to the police.'
Attorneys for the four women who have accused Robinson of rape and more did not respond to request for comment on today's countersuit.

Derrick Henry's spot in future Adam Sandler film hinges on cracking this NFL milestone

Coming to the big screen near you: Adam Sandler and Derrick Henry (maybe). This week, Baltimore's star running back revealed to Dan Patrick, a good friend of Sandler's, that Sandler is his favorite actor and that he'd love to meet him one day. Patrick then upped the ante as he told Henry, who compiled 1,921 rushing yards last season in his first year with the Ravens, that if he could surpass 2,000 yards next season, he'd make sure to get him a spot in a Sandler movie. Advertisement 3 Adam Sandler spoke to Derrick Henry in a video to agree to the deal that would land Henry a role in a Sandler movie. The Dan Patrick Show The iconic actor and comedian agreed wholeheartedly. 'Yo Derrick, I just woke up, you know that. That's why I look disgusting — on top of the fact that I am disgusting,' Sandler joked at the start of a video message for Henry. 'I love ya, congrats on everything, 2,000 yards-plus gets you not only in the movie, but we have a nice dinner together and we talk about Dan Patrick's facial hair and how hard it is to grow it.' Advertisement Henry watched the video, grinning ear to ear. 'That's my dog, man,' Henry said as Sandler's message concluded. 'Hell yeah, man, that's cool as hell.' Henry then sent a heartfelt message to Patrick to thank him for getting him in contact with his favorite actor. Advertisement 'Dan thank you for sending the message for the video, that was really cool!' the Ravens running back wrote. 'Much love!' 3 Dan Patrick helped Derrick Henry get in contact with Adam Sandler. The Dan Patrick Show So, the stakes have been raised. Henry has reached 2,000 yards in a season just once across his nine-year NFL career — hitting the mark in year No. 5 of his eight seasons spent with the Tennessee Titans. Advertisement In his inaugural season with the Ravens in 2024-25, he just barely missed the mark. 3 Derrick Henry came up just short of 2,000 yards last season. AP But by coming up just 79 yards short, the 31-year-old — who was awarded a $30 million extension with the Ravens last month — certainly showed that he's got some left in the tank as he looks to jumpstart his movie career on the one condition that Patrick and Sandler laid out for him. The five-time Pro Bowler and 2020 AP Offensive Player of the Year has appeared in plenty of advertisements and commercials across his NFL years, so he's got some acting chops already.

Time is Running Out to Preserve Princess Diana's Legacy

The Princess Diana Museum Urges Immediate Donations Ahead of June 26 Auction LOS ANGELES, June 6, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Princess & The Platypus Foundation, the nonprofit behind The Princess Diana Museum, is making an urgent appeal ahead of a critical auction deadline. On June 26, 2025, Julien's Auctions will release a rare group of Princess Diana's personal items to the highest bidder—unless the Foundation can raise the necessary funds to preserve them for public access and future generations. The Foundation—owner and curator of the world's largest private collection of over 2,700 authenticated artifacts from Diana's life—is working quickly to secure these newly available, historically significant items before they are lost to private collectors. "These are not just objects for investment opportunists—they are a part of history and need to be preserved," said Renae Plant, Founder of The Princess Diana Museum. "They represent Diana's compassion, courage, and humanity. We must all come together now to keep them accessible to the world. Once they're gone, they could disappear from public view forever." For Plant, this mission is deeply personal. "My connection to Diana began in childhood," said Plant. "When I was twelve, I had the unforgettable opportunity to meet her during a visit to Australia. As she stepped into a black Rolls-Royce, she dropped a tiny clay platypus onto the ground. I rushed to return it, but a nearby policeman gently closed my hand and said, 'She must have dropped it to give it to you.' That quiet, graceful moment stayed with me — and unknowingly set me on the path to protect her legacy, not just with admiration, but with purpose." Plant met Diana a second time in Sydney in 1988, a moment forever tied to the now-iconic "Caring Dress," a bright blue colorful ensemble Diana frequently wore while visiting hospitals, children and humanitarian causes. "It was the dress she wore when she met me again," said Plant. "It has become a lasting symbol of her kindness, compassion, and commitment to others. It represents everything The Princess Diana Museum is about." "In October 2018, I was deeply honored to receive a letter from HRH Prince William and HRH Prince Harry, thanking me for informing them about the museum and my efforts to honor their mother's legacy. They shared that they were "most touched" by the work we are doing — a sentiment that moved me deeply and continues to guide every step I take in this journey" said Plant. The nonprofit's mission is to honor Diana's legacy through preservation, education, and charitable giving. The collection includes garments, handwritten letters, charity correspondence, and personal effects that span Diana's life—from her teenage years through her decades of humanitarian work. The Foundation has collaborated on major exhibitions with world-renowned institutions, including Historic Royal Palaces at Kensington Palace and The Kunstmuseum Den Haag. Beginning in 2026, it will launch a multi-year global tour of the collection, culminating in the creation of a permanent public exhibit in the United Kingdom. Immediate Action NeededWith just days left before the auction, the Foundation is calling on donors, sponsors, and supporters to help ensure these cultural treasures remain available to the public. Donations can be made directly to the Foundation PayPal account here: [ *All donations are tax deductible, according to California State and IRS Federal Regulations for non-profits and to the maximum specified on those regulations applicable in the United States of America.
