Texas Rangers expand TV broadcast options with traditional carriers and some free games

Independent28-01-2025

The Texas Rangers reached multiyear agreements with several distributors that will broadcast games in the team's five-state television territory, the team announced Tuesday.
A day after unveiling the new Rangers Sports Network (RSN), the team said the network had partnered with several traditional cable and digital television providers. Those include DirectTV, U-Verse and Spectrum, with deals still being finalized with other providers. The team will also provide free over-the-air games for the first time since 2014, with a plan for 15 such broadcasts that will mainly be Friday home games.
'Given the challenges in the landscape for local game broadcasts the past few years, it was essential for us to provide fans with multiple ways to watch Rangers baseball,' said Neil Leibman, chairman of the new Rangers Entertainment and Media Company.
The Rangers in mid-January entered into a multiyear agreement to stream Rangers regional games directly to consumers on the Victory+ service. That service will cost $100 to access games for the full season.
The Rangers previously had their regional broadcasts on Bally Sports Southwest, part of the financially troubled Diamond Sports Group that went through a bankruptcy reorganization. The team's deal with Diamond expired at the end of last season. Bally Sports Southwest was not available through some cable companies and many popular streaming platforms.

Celtic transfer explosion as Balikwisha talks 'personal terms', striker on brink and Angulo brings the house down

The Premiership champions are racing ahead in their pursuit of fresh arrivals with three wingers linked Persistent Celtic have restarted talks with long-term target Michel-Ange Balikwisha with discussions over personal terms underway – according to a leading report in Belgium. The Royal Antwerp winger has been on the Parkhead signing radar over the previous two windows and now the former Red Devils' U21 star is expected to leave his homeland this summer. ‌ Now signing insider Sacha Tavolieri states the Premiership champions have triggered dialogue with the coveted wide man. ‌ Balikwisha directly addressed Celtic earlier this year but admitted his injury issues kiboshed any potential switch to Glasgow. Celtic are honing in on fresh impetus in wide areas with Jota out for the long term and fellow starter Nicolas Kuhn widely expected to attract interest from elsewhere in the coming months. And that means Balikwisha isn't the only winger on the agenda with fellow Jupiler Pro League star Nilson Angulo attracting interest with reports in Belgium claiming Celtic had an initial bid tossed out. The 21-year-old started Ecuador's gutsy 0-0 draw away to Peru which sealed their qualification for the World Cup in North America. And now Anderlecht are braced for fresh interest in a player who has enjoyed a stratospheric rise since leaving him homeland in 2022. ‌ Another winger who could also be back in the mix is Sondre Ørjasæter with Sky Sports claiming the £7m-rated Sarpsborg star remains high on the agenda. Boss Brendan Rodgers appears to be getting the front-foot window he craves with Kieran Tierney signed, sealed and delivered and Ross Doohan soon to follow as the third-choice goalkeeper after Scott Bain's exit. And the next signing appears imminent with Callum Osmand set to sign a long-term deal after being tempted north from the Fulham B team. ‌ The Wales youth international turned heads last season but will join the Premiership champions despite being wanted to become a part of the Cottagers' first team. D-backs pile up extra-base hits in rout of Mariners

June 11 - Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Gabriel Moreno and Alek Thomas homered, Corbin Carroll hit a pair of RBI triples, and the Arizona Diamondbacks pulled away from the Seattle Mariners for a 10-3 victory in Phoenix on Tuesday. Moreno hit a three-run homer to ignite a five-run sixth after missing the previous three games with a right hand contusion. Carroll added his second triple and scored to cap the sixth for a 9-2 lead. Carroll had his second two-triple game of the season and leads the majors with eight. Arizona's Ketel Marte extended his on-base streak to 23 games with a single and two walks. Rowdy Tellez homered and singled while Randy Arozarena also went deep for the Mariners, who have lost seven of eight. Julio Rodriguez, Cole Young and Jorge Polanco had two hits apiece. Thomas, who homered in the eighth, had two singles and a walk and scored four runs from the ninth spot in the order. Gurriel and Josh Naylor each had two hits for the D-backs, who have won two in a row after a three-game losing streak. D-backs right-hander Brandon Pfaadt (8-4) gave up two runs and nine hits in five-plus innings, leaving after Arozarena hit a 435-foot homer leading off the sixth and Tellez followed with a 440-foot blast. Pfaadt struck out four and walked one. In a statistical quirk, Pfaadt is tied with San Francisco's Robbie Ray for the NL lead in victories but ranks last among the 37 qualified starters with a 5.50 ERA. Pfaadt had given up 14 runs (13 earned) in three innings over his previous two starts combined. Seattle's Logan Evans (3-2) yielded four runs on seven hits in five innings, with five strikeouts and two walks. He was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday to make the start after the Mariners placed Bryce Miller (elbow) on the injured list. Arizona's Bryce Jarvis tossed three innings of one-run ball for his first career save after being recalled from Triple-A Reno earlier in the day. Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who leads the majors with 26 homers, had a chance for No. 27 taken away by left fielder Gurriel in the third inning. Raleigh hit a deep fly to the opposite field that Gurriel caught with a leap at the fence. Raleigh has nine homers in his last 13 games. Carroll tripled home a run and scored on Geraldo Perdomo's sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead in the third. Gurriel hit his 10th homer in the fourth for a 3-0 edge, and Naylor doubled in a run for a 4-0 advantage in the fifth. --Field Level Media

Rangers score season-high 16 runs in rout of Twins

June 11 - Kyle Higashioka doubled and drove in five runs, Josh Jung doubled and drove in four runs and the Texas Rangers stormed to a 16-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night in Minneapolis. Evan Carter went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs for Texas, which set a season high in runs. Wyatt Langford also homered as the Rangers won the opener of a three-game series. Matt Wallner homered for the Twins, who fell to 1-3 with two games remaining on their homestand. Byron Buxton went 3-for-4 with a double. Rangers right-hander Tyler Mahle (6-3) earned the victory despite allowing four runs on 10 hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out three. Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (2-3) surrendered seven runs (six earned) on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out four on the same day he was promoted from Triple-A St. Paul to fill the rotation spot of injured starter Zebby Matthews. The Rangers led 3-2 after four innings before erupting for five runs in the fifth. Jung started the big inning with a two-run single to left, and Higashioka followed two batters later with a two-run double to right. Josh Smith added an RBI single to put the Rangers on top 8-2. The Twins pulled within 8-3 on Ryan Jeffers' RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. Carter continued the Rangers' hit parade with a two-run blast to make it 10-3 in the sixth. He pulled a 394-foot shot to right for his second homer in as many games. Wallner led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer to cut the deficit to 10-4. Texas put the game away with a six-run eighth inning. Langford led off with a 395-foot homer to left, and Carter drove in the second run of the inning with an RBI single to right. Jung delivered next with a two-run double to center to make it 14-4. Then came a sacrifice fly to right by Adolis Garcia and finally an RBI groundout by Higashioka to get to the final tally. --Field Level Media
