Aussie cricket star Steve Smith lifts the lid on when he could retire and pinpoints the new sporting event he dreams of playing in
Steve Smith has no plans to retire any time soon, so long as he is still enjoying his cricket and scoring runs for Australia.
But as Australia's Test side quietly enters a transitionary period, Smith, 36, has reflected on his future in the game and revealed why he gave up One Day cricket.
The Australian batsman, who has amassed a whopping 10,271 runs across 116 Test Matches, also revealed the lengths he is taking to ensure he can continue playing at the top level - notably hiring a personal trainer.
Speaking to The Courier Mail, Smith admitted he feels 'as strong as I've ever been' adding that he's looking to increase his power.
The New South Wales star was also pressed on when he could plan to hang up his pads.
And having won countless trophies, toured all over the world and broken records, there is one thing that the Aussie batsman wants to do before he hangs up his pads - play for Australia at the 2028 LA Olympics.
'As long as I'm contributing to the team and I'm having fun there's no reason to stop,' Smith told The Courier Mail, ahead of a World Test Championship Final against South Africa.
'I've spoken to quite a few people around retirement and around what it looks like and everybody was basically just saying the same: "You're a long time retired".
Weary of going on for too long but also keen to continue scoring runs, Smith, who also lives in New York with his partner Dani Willis, opened up on his ambition of playing in Los Angeles.
'I've got to try and make it last while I can and I'm living my dream I suppose. I'm doing everything I've loved to do and everything I've wanted to do for my whole life. Why cut it short I suppose? Keep trying to do it for as long as I can.
He added: 'Now I've got other ambitions and goals. One day it is to play the Olympics which I'd love to do.'
Cricket has only been played at a Summer Games once before at the Paris Olympics in 1900.
Great Britain's Devon and Somerset Wanderers were crowned gold medallists, while teams from Britain and France both entered.
Smith reasoned that his shock decision to step back from ODI cricket in March was due to his ambitions to improve his ball striking in the T20 format and play in Los Angeles.

Smith had also revealed that he was keen to open up a space in the ODI squad for other young and emerging stars coming through the ranks.
'That was pretty much the reason why I let go of one-day cricket to be able to play a bit more T20.
'To be able to push my name forward for that Olympics team, that's my next goal.
'I feel like I've achieved a lot amongst the other formats and that's probably the one format internationally I haven't quite nailed. That's my No 1 goal.'

England chase down big total to seal T20 series against Windies
BRISTOL, England, June 8 (Reuters) - Jos Buttler top-scored again as England chased down an imposing target and beat West Indies by four wickets in the second T20 on Sunday to take a 2-0 lead and seal the three-match series, continuing their excellent form under new captain Harry Brook. Former captain Buttler's 47 from 36 balls at Bristol's County Ground came on the back of his 96 in the first T20 in Durham and set the platform for England to hunt down West Indies' total of 196-6 with nine balls to spare. It was a second straight series victory for England under the captaincy of Brook after they secured a 3-0 series sweep in the one-dayers. Jacob Bethell hit a thrilling 26 from 10 balls, which included three sixes, as England spread the runs throughout the team with Ben Duckett (30), Brook (34) and Tom Banton (30) providing solid backup. England, who won the toss and chose to bowl, got off to the perfect start with Luke Wood, who was the hosts' standout bowler with 2-25, striking Evin Lewis on the pads with the day's first delivery, but the tourists quickly steadied the ship. Shai Hope took the fight to England with 49 off 38 balls, while Johnson Charles started patiently before he also fell just short of his half century, with 47 from 39 deliveries. England ace chase to continue unbeaten start under Harry Brook
Harry Brook 's golden touch as England 's white-ball captain continued as his side chased down 197 to clinch the T20 series with a four-wicket win over the West Indies in Bristol. Brook has now won all five games since taking over from Jos Buttler and has the chance to match the 3-0 ODI whitewash in Southampton on Tuesday. England were put under real pressure when the tourists blazed 82 off the last five overs of their innings – Adil Rashid smashed for five sixes in the 19th – but did not blink in a rousing chase. Jos Buttler's 47 set the platform but the game was settled by two of the team's less experienced hands, Jacob Bethell clubbing 26 off just 10 balls and Tom Banton an unbeaten 30 from 11. There were 25 sixes in the match as the Seat Unique Stadium lived up to its reputation as a big-hitter's playground, but it was England who held the day. England made one change to their winning team from Durham, Luke Wood replacing Matthew Potts, and the game was only a few seconds old when the switch paid off. Wood's first delivery was a big inswinging yorker that pounded Evin Lewis flush on the toe in front of the stumps. It was a reminder of the left-armer's new-ball prowess and the perfect reintroduction to the international stage. England kept the score to 82 for one in the first half of the innings, despite Liam Dawson struggling to replicate his player-of-the-match turn from Friday night. Reprieved on 43, Buttler added just four more before gifting Charles his redemption with a top-edged reverse sweep. This time, the chance stuck. With the asking rate climbing, Brook took a chunk out of the target but picked out long-off on 34, trying and failing to strike his third six. With 77 needed off seven overs England had no choice but to keep their foot to the floor and Banton hoisted his first ball for six before helping himself to another off Gudakesh Motie. Bethell went even harder against Alzarri Joseph, taking three massive sixes from the 16th over. The biggest of the lot cleared the three-story block of flats that looks down on the ground. In just a few minutes England had gone from outsiders to strong favourites, a position only slightly undermined when Bethell threaded a reverse sweep to slip. Banton stayed in place to see his side over the finish line and Brydon Carse edged the winning boundary with nine balls remaining.
