Qassam Brigades' Abu Obeida vows more 'funerals and corpses' of Israeli soldiers
The spokesperson for the Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, vowed on Wednesday that there would be more "funerals and corpses of enemy soldiers" to come. Abu Obeida praised the Tuesday ambushes that killed seven Israeli soldiers and wounded some 15 others. "Our fighters are offering unique examples of heroism and courage," he said. "The recent ambushes are... proving that our people's fighters are the most courageous and self-sacrificing freedom fighters of the modern era." "The funerals and corpses of enemy soldiers will become a regular occurrence, God willing, as long as the occupation's aggression and criminal war against our people continue," Abu Obeida said.

Trump sees 'progress' on Gaza, raising hopes for ceasefire
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that "great progress" was being made to end the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza as a new ceasefire push began more than 20 months since the start of the conflict. "I think great progress is being made on Gaza," Trump told reporters ahead of a NATO summit in the Netherlands, adding that his special envoy Steve Witkoff had told him "Gaza is very close." He linked his optimism about imminent "very good news" for the Gaza Strip to a ceasefire agreed on Tuesday between Israel and Hamas backer Iran to end their 12-day war. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also suggested that Israel's blitz of Iran's nuclear and missile facilities, as well as its security forces linked to overseas militant groups, could help end the Gaza conflict. Netanyahu faces growing calls from opposition politicians, relatives of hostages being held in Gaza and even members of his ruling coalition to bring an end to the fighting. In one of the war's deadliest incidents for the Israeli army, it said seven of its soldiers were killed on Tuesday in southern Gaza. People, some carrying aid parcels, walk along the Salah Al Din road near the Nusseirat refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. AFP Key mediator Qatar announced on Tuesday that it would launch a new push for a ceasefire, with Hamas on Wednesday saying talks had "intensified." "Our communications with the brother mediators in Egypt and Qatar have not stopped and have intensified in recent hours," Hamas official Taher Al Nunu told AFP. He cautioned, however, that the group had "not yet received any new proposals" to end the war. The Israeli government declined to comment on any new ceasefire talks beyond saying that efforts to return Israeli hostages in Gaza were ongoing "on the battlefield and via negotiations". Palestinians say Israeli fire kills 15-year-old in West Bank
The Palestinian health ministry said Israeli troops shot dead a 15-year-old boy in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, the second teenager killed in three days. "The child Rayan Tamer Houshiyeh was killed after being shot in the neck by soldiers in the town of Al-Yamoun, northwest of Jenin," the Ramallah-based ministry said. Earlier on Wednesday, the Palestinian Red Crescent said that its teams had handled "a very critical case" in Al Yamoun involving the teenager, before pronouncing him dead. The army told AFP that it was "looking into" the events in Al Yamoun. A boy mourns over the body of a man killed a day earlier while attempting to get aid at a distribution point in Gaza City. AFP On Monday, the health ministry announced that Israeli fire had killed a 13-year-old it identified as Ammar Hamayel in the West Bank town of Kafr Malik near Ramallah. On June 3, the army confirmed it had killed a 14-year-old who threw rocks in the town of Sinjil. In a similar incident in April, a teenager who held US citizenship was shot dead in the town of Turmus Ayya, with the Israeli military saying it had killed a "terrorist" who threw rocks at cars. Sinjil and Turmus Ayya lie adjacent to each other on either side of a main road. Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, and violence in the territory has soared since the Hamas attack of October 2023 triggered the Gaza war. Since then, Israeli troops or settlers have killed at least 941 Palestinians, according to the health ministry. Over the same period, at least 35 Israelis have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during Israeli military operations, according to Israeli figures. Agence France-Presse
