Investcorp buys majority stake in German supply chain and logistics consultancy Miebach
Bahrain's Investcorp, the biggest alternative asset manager in the Middle East, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire a majority stake in German supply chain and logistics consultancy Miebach. Following the transaction, Miebach's existing equity partnership will retain a significant minority stake in the company, Investcorp said in a statement on Monday. It did not disclose the terms of the deal. The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025 and is subject to customary regulatory clearance. As part of the deal, Miebach will continue to expand its organic growth initiatives, while developing a focused mergers and acquisition strategy, Investcorp said. 'As a global leader in supply chain consulting, logistics and material flow engineering, Miebach has established itself as the end-to-end consultant for truly international clients seeking highly complex supply chain solutions,' Yusef Al Yusef, global head of distribution at Investcorp, said. Since 2012, Investcorp's European private equity group has invested about €2.1 billion ($2.28 billion) in companies across Europe. The acquisition of Miebach is the group's fifth investment over the last 15 months, following the more recent acquisitions of SEC Newgate, Outcomes First Group, Stowe, and Epipoli. Set up in 1973 with headquarters in Frankfurt, Miebach provides specialised global supply chain and logistics consultancy services, a market estimated to be worth about €30 billion and expected to grow at double-digit rates annually, according to Investcorp. Miebach's services extends from the development of supply chain strategies to engineering designs, while providing digital services to the client's warehousing infrastructure. The company employs more than 500 people with offices in 20 countries, providing services to various industries and international blue-chip clients across the world. 'The supply chain and logistics consultancy market is exposed to long-term trends, and is expected to benefit from positive tailwinds in supply chain resiliency, sustainability, digitalisation and automation,' Investcorp said. Established in 1982, Investcorp invests across asset classes through its six business lines: private equity, real estate, absolute return investments, infrastructure, credit management and strategic capital. Its assets under management have grown to $55 billion and it aims to boost it to $100 billion by investing in areas including the Americas, Europe and the broader Asia region, including the Middle East.

UAE, EU hold talks on trade agreement
The UAE and European Union have held talks on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) that will deepen trade ties and open opportunities for investment and innovation. The proposed UAE-EU CEPA aims to remove trade barriers, enhance market access for goods and services, and create investment in priority sectors. During the investment roundtable, representatives from the UAE and the European private sectors explored mutual investment opportunities, particularly those aimed at fostering innovation and sustainable development. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, emphasised the importance of the CEPA with the EU, adding that it "represents an extraordinary opportunity... to enhance trade and investment ties that will foster greater collaboration and create mutual benefits and prosperity". "By working together, we will strengthen our supply chains, drive innovation, and create jobs that will benefit our communities and economies for many years to come." Commenting on the negotiations, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič said: 'A bilateral FTA would unlock tremendous business opportunities for European and Emirati businesses alike. Our aim is to reach an ambitious deal — one that brings lasting benefits and commercial predictability.' The EU currently accounts for 8.3 per cent of the UAE's non-oil trade, which reached $67.6 billion in 2024 - an increase of 3.6 per cent from the previous year. Foreign direct investment between the two is strong, with recent UAE partnerships spanning data centres in Italy, solar energy in Spain and urban redevelopment in Budapest. Looking ahead, the CEPA could facilitate further high-impact deals, including a proposed $50 billion AI data centre collaboration with France and a $40 billion investment in Italy's energy and defence sectors. The UAE's CEPA programme is central to its foreign trade strategy, designed to boost economic diversification through open, rules-based trade. In 2024, the initiative contributed to record non-oil trade of $816 billion — a 14.6 per cent year-on-year increase.

Abu Dhabi-listed Investcorp Capital offloads US real estate assets
Bahrain's Investcorp Capital has offloaded its real estate assets in the US, amidst headwinds of rising mortgage rates and economic uncertainty in the American housing market. The ADX-listed alternative investment firm said it has exited 12 residential multi-occupancy assets across five states in the US, including the full liquidation of a multifamily portfolio at an aggregate price of $550 million. Investcorp Capital said that 'despite a tempered multifamily market', the exit was secured at a premium. 'Though rent growth has cooled from the highs we saw in recent years, the long-term fundamentals supporting the multifamily sector remain compelling,' said Interim CEO, Mohamed Aamer, adding that the company will continue to evaluate properties across target markets. The assets are 94% occupied on average and are situated in rental markets including Atlanta; Philadelphia; Raleigh, North Carolina; and St. Louis, Missouri, as well as Tampa and Orlando in Florida, Investcorp added. Last week, Freddie Mac said mortgage rates have inched up this past week but continue to remain lower than one year ago. 'With more inventory for buyers to choose from than the last few years, purchase application activity continues to hold up,' said Sam Khater, Freddie Mac's Chief Economist. The 30-year fixed rate mortgage (FRM) averaged 6.86% as of May 22, 2025, up from last week's 6.81% average, but down from a year ago when the 30-year FRM averaged 6.94%. Meanwhile, the 15-year FRM averaged 6.01%, up from last week when it averaged 5.92%, but down from the 15-year FRM average from a year ago at 6.24%. (Writing by Bindu Rai, editing by Seban Scaria)
