2025 Audi S3 vs Mercedes-AMG CLA 35: the executive decision
Are you a young, talented sales rep who needs some show to match your go? Do you lust for the performance of a 'hot hatch' but require something that wouldn't look out of place on a LinkedIn post? The 2025 Audi S3 and Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 are here for you, and they both offer performance thrills, luxurious panache, and daily driver functionality–all neatly tucked beneath the guise of a blazer and tailored slacks.
These sports sedans offer near-identical performance–each is powered by some form of a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces just over 300 horsepower, they both send power to all four wheels, and they both use dual-clutch automatic transmissions to do so. So, since these two vehicles are so similar underneath, let's take a look at how they compare on the surface.First, we'll focus our gaze on the Audi S3–an established, well-loved compact sports sedan with vibrant aftermarket support that also makes iconic fart sounds. From its turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the S3 produces 328 horsepower–26 more than the CLA 35–and routes its thrust to all four wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The S3 accelerates more quickly than the Benz, with Audi claiming a 0-60 mph time of just 4.4 seconds, versus the CLA 35's claimed 4.8. Not only does the S3 have more hustle and bustle under the hood, it also has more space in the back. Comfortable clients make for happy clients, and happy clients mean you get paid.
Although the CLA 35 is officially branded as a "four-door coupe", it's certainly noteworthy that the S3 sedan beats out the CLA 35's rear seat dimensions in every vital metric, including headroom, legroom, and shoulder room. On the flip side, however, the S3 offers a notably lower cargo capacity compared to the big-boot Benz.
Just to recap–the S3 is more powerful, has a more spacious cabin, directly rivals the CLA 35, but is priced $7,400 lower than the Mercedes when plucked as a 'Premium' trim line. The 2025 Audi S3 Premium starts at $48,700, whereas the base CLA 35 commands a more hefty, $56,100 price tag. Ouch.
You might assume the stark difference in price is somehow related to equipment packaging, and that the CLA 35 might offer far more advanced technology and premium features as standard. However, even the top-trim, 2025 Audi S3 Prestige is priced lower than a CLA 35 with no optional equipment–at $54,900. So, what gives?Despite the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35's already-higher price tag when compared to the S3, there are plenty of pricey option boxes to be ticked if you'd like to personalize it even further. Once you start throwing in optional features such as genuine leather upholstery, AMG Performance Seats, AMG Aerodynamics Package, AMG Ride Control, and more, it's possible to skyrocket that MSRP well north of $75,000.
Consider the fact that Audi's even more powerful RS3 can be had for as little as $62,300, and this begins to seem almost nonsensical. What's even more concerning is that you could purchase Mercedes-AMG's very own CLE 53 Coupe, which offers a much more potent, 443-horsepower, 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six with hybrid assist, all-wheel drive, and a claimed 4.0 second 0-60 time–for as low as $74,300.
With its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2025 CLA 35 AMG pumps out a healthy serving of 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Although that's plenty of 'get-up and go' for its size, the S3 offers more for less. And, although they both use 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmissions, the S3's gearbox is far more intuitive and engaging to operate when in manual-shift mode, using the available flappy paddles.
Although it may not be quite as intuitive behind the wheel, the CLA 35 is still a riot to drive, and narrowly matches the S3's preppy-but-peppy charisma. To the touch, the AMG is noticeably more 'premium' on the outside, and the fact that its dashboard isn't entirely coated in glossy black plastic and bright screens is a plus, as well.
It's not as if the CLA's added cost doesn't shine through in the details, though. There is certainly a "Mercedes-Benz" level of material quality that is closely replicated in the S3, but not quite matched. If you are obsessive compulsive about your interior spaces, the CLA 35 is a commendable option over the S3's gloss black plastic surfaces.Regardless of which you choose, these models are like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual. It may be the least expensive new Rolex you can buy, but hey, now you're in the club. You'll get all the enjoyment and practical use of a hot hatch like the Volkswagen Golf R and the Toyota GR Corolla, but with a lot more comfort and clout.
Think of these cars like Lululemon ABC Pants–you can wear them when golfing, when jogging, and when socializing out in public, but you could probably still get away with wearing them to work once in a while. The 2025 Audi S3 Sedan and Mercedes-Benz CLA 35 Coupe are kings of young-professional versatility, and it's worth noting that the BMW M235 Gran Coupe is another reasonable alternative to both, especially now that it gets a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox for the 2025 model year.
Ultimately, the CLA 35 Coupe is a suavely-dressed seductress when compared to the S3's more conservative aesthetic, but I'm not sure if it does quite enough to justify its price tag over the Audi. The Benz may be chiseled to the core, but the S3 is certainly handsome and polite in its overall tone, and offers more car for less money to buyers who are more concerned with how it drives than with how much attention it attracts.
Would you spring for the prim and proper, mad-dashing Audi S3 Sedan, or the bold, confident Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 Coupe? Do you prefer the Audi's minimalistic interior, or are you partial towards the Benz's more vibrant environment? Let us know how you feel in the comments–we love to hear from you!

2025 Audi SQ6 E-Tron First Test: Incredibly Quick, But Otherwise … ?
Pros It's how quick?! Home-charging port on both sides Quickly adds range at fast chargers Cons Slow-acting charge port doors Not as fun as the competition Needs more exterior and interior colors What a breath of fresh air. Where the BMW iX's extroverted design leans too hard into the future and the blobby Mercedes EQE lacks premium proportions, the 2025 Audi SQ6 slices the competition right down the middle. Here's a conventionally handsome electric luxury SUV with 509 hp to transform every green light into an adventure. The road to success should be easy for this Audi, right? Right ? Why We Tested an SQ6 After starting its EV game strong with what became known as the Q8 E-Tron, Audi faltered with the smaller, more affordable Q4. The latter electric SUV didn't initially meet our expectations of how an Audi should feel, and a gaping hole formed between the two. Now, after some delays, the 2025 Audi Q6 and more powerful SQ6 are here, striking at the heart of the market—a comfortably sized five-seat SUV more luxurious than the Q4 but less pricey than the Q8 E-Tron, more or less the electric equivalent to the brand's popular Q5. Instead of a base Q6 RWD's 322 hp or a dual-motor AWD model's 456 hp, the SQ6's dual-motor AWD setup manages 509 hp with launch control. In terms of horsepower bragging rights, the smaller Q4 doesn't come close. SQ6 Tested: A Polestar-Sized Issue The standard Q6 does , however. In our testing, a Q6 AWD sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, a full 0.3 second quicker than Audi's own estimate. The SQ6 follows suit, beating Audi's 4.1-second estimate; in our testing, the SUV hit 60 in just 3.7 seconds. Just a few years ago, that kind of explosive performance would have been reserved for RS models like the RS3 and RS6. One of the SQ6's best features is how that acceleration feels in the real world. In any drive mode, slam that accelerator pedal to the floor, and as the nose of the SUV lifts, you're off. The near-instant rush of acceleration people associate with electric cars is easier to feel here than in the Polestar 3, another similarly priced electric luxury SUV with sporty intentions, and especially compared to the regular Q6 E-Tron. And that electric Polestar is about as quick as the Audi, with a MotorTrend -tested 0–60-mph time of 3.8 to 4.1 seconds depending on model. If your driving thrills mostly happen in a straight line, the SQ6 is a great option. It's when the road starts to curve that we start daydreaming about the Polestar 3. On the figure-eight course, our racetrack-in-a-bottle test, the Audi turned in a respectable performance of 24.7 seconds at 0.80 g (average), to the Polestar 3 AWD's 24.4–24.6 seconds at 0.81–0.82 g (average, from two 3s). But setting the objective numbers aside, the Polestar simply feels more fun and lighter on its feet, which is interesting because it's about 250 pounds heavier than the Audi. As our test crew noted, the SQ6's chassis is composed if you take it down a few notches. But drive it at a faster pace, and the SUV just doesn't feel as fun—it's competent, not captivating. On the road, the SQ6's adaptive air suspension strikes a good balance between comfort and a sporty feel. Just like the SUV's styling itself, ride quality is good enough that you could live with it for years to come. That's true up to the moment you hear the hollow thrumming sound coming from the tires on the highway. There's a partial fix for that, though: Turn up the volume on the Bang & Olufsen sound system, which has a 3D sound feature and headrest speakers. The acoustic front door glass on the top SQ6 trim pairs well with the excellent sound system and adaptive cruise control to make stop-and-go traffic more tolerable. Range and Charge Testing: Hey, Not Bad We know the SQ6 isn't the sportiest or most spacious electric SUV around, and, well, it's also lacking any claims to class-leading range. A 275-mile EPA-rated range is fine, however, and in our Road-Trip Range test—which simulates how you might drive on the highway—the Audi managed 266 miles, nearly matching its claim. Getting that close to the EPA figure is impressive, as is what happens when the Audi is fast-charged. The 2025 SQ6 added back 160 miles of range after 15 minutes in our testing, which will make public charging stops quicker and more convenient. Few vehicles we've run through these tests have added that many miles in 15 minutes. As a bonus, the SUV is capable of 400 kW of recuperative braking—meaning it can pile electrons back into the battery quite rapidly when using the motors to slow itself down, stretching your around-town range. What About Tesla? What about Tesla? With the spacious Model Y SUV, Tesla has produced one of the most popular vehicles on the planet. And the newest model's updates promise improvements at a lower price than the Audi, Polestar, or BMW. What Tesla can no longer provide is a positive status boost you can count on, like most other luxury brands. We're not just talking about the CEO's unpredictable antics but also the sales troubles faced by one of its halo vehicles, the Cybertruck. So if any of the above—or the Model Y's ubiquity— bothers you, it's time to consider other brands. It's Fine. But Is It Fiiine ? We like the 2025 Audi SQ6 a lot; we just don't have much love for it. The design is conventionally handsome but may look too much like the smaller Q4 at a glance. The range is decent in the real world, but that's also true of the competition. We like the real, pull-out door handles and the cargo area's convenient netted cubbies, but what are we talking about here, a RAV4 or a luxury SUV? The SQ6 delivers fantastic acceleration for quick thrills pretty much anywhere. We understand why Audi buyers will be drawn to it, as it's very, very Audi-like, but the BMW's interior feels richer, and the Polestar is more fun to drive. That leaves the Audi right down the middle. We understand the SQ6's appeal, and it is quicker than a run-of-the-mill Q6, but that model more or less delivers the same verve—even without an S badge.

Mercedes-AMG Unleashes Special Edition Flagship SUV Limited to 450 Examples
Mercedes-AMG Unleashes Special Edition Flagship SUV Limited to 450 Examples originally appeared on Autoblog. The Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 already sits at the top of the Mercedes SUV food chain. The V8-powered monster commands an awesome $150,650 to start, with no shortage of ways to send that price tag even further into the stratosphere. But when you're already spending that kind of money, why not opt for something less than 500 people worldwide can claim access to? We can't really relate, but it seems Mercedes thinks there are at least a few hundred people who see it that way. Thus, Affalterbach introduced the 2026 AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article As opulent as it is long-named, the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition touts tons of details that separate it from the flock of GLS SUVs you may or may not see on your morning commute. Perhaps most obviously, it wears Manufaktur Cirrus Silver Magno paint, a hue apparently exclusive to the model. Red and black accents dot the otherwise almost subtle exterior, with massive 23-inch wheels bearing red accents along the rim and center caps, accenting the red-painted calipers. Other blacked-out accents come courtesy of the included AMG Night Package. While not exclusive to the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition, it goes a long way here with the special red accents. The tailpipes wear a dark chrome finish, and the roof rails are painted matte black. The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition also benefits from a front splitter, air inlets, and wing mirrors painted glossy black. Inside, the red and black theme continues. Arguably, the prettiest highlight is the red-accented carbon fiber dash trim, exclusive to the Arctic Silver Edition. For upholstery, the special GLS 63 dons Carmine Red and Black Nappa leather. An AMG Performance steering wheel, Manufaktur black door sills with edition-specific AMG lettering, and ultra comfy deep-pile floor mats round out the ultra-special additions for the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition. In case you somehow forgot, the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 gets motivation from a rowdy biturbo 4.0-liter V8 making a respectable 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels, allowing the behemoth to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in a Mercedes-estimated 4.1 seconds. Of course, in this arena, you gotta bring the big guns. Close competitors include the BMW ALPINA XB7, which manages 631 horsepower, and the Range Rover SV, which makes do with 606 horsepower. It's crowded at the top. Mercedes has made it a tradition not to release pricing on these special Manufaktur Edition cars, and the 2026 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 Manufaktur Arctic Silver Edition is no exception. One thing is for sure: it won't be cheap, as checking a few Manufaktur boxes on the regular SUV sends the MSRP deep into $170k territory. There is some comfort if you're in the market, however. It seems unlikely that the AMG Manufaktur model will topple the Maybach GLS 600, which starts at $178,450 and permanently occupies the highest rung of the GLS ladder. After all, we don't want any Maybach buyers thinking they're getting the cheap version.
