Ben Shelton gives the US 3 men in the ATP top 10 for the first time since 2006

LONDON (AP) — Ben Shelton rose two spots to No. 10 in the ATP rankings on Monday, joining No. 4 Taylor Fritz and No. 8 Tommy Paul to give the United States three men in the top 10 for the first time in nearly 20 years.
In April 2006, Andy Roddick was No. 4, James Blake was No. 7, and Andre Agassi was No. 10.
There are four American women in the WTA's top 10 this week again, and five in the top 13: No. 2 Coco Gauff, No. 3 Jessica Pegula, No. 6 Madison Keys, No. 9 Emma Navarro and No. 13 Amanda Anisimova.
Aryna Sabalenka remains at No. 1, a spot she took over in October from Iga Swiatek, who dropped to No. 8 on Monday.
Tatjana Maria, a 37-year-old German, rose 43 spots to No. 43 on Monday by winning the Queen's Club title as a qualifier.
The 22-year-old Shelton, who won the 2022 NCAA singles title for the University of Florida, is only in his third full season on tour. He'd never traveled out of the U.S. until 2023.
Shelton is a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist, making it that far at the U.S. Open in 2023 and the Australian Open this January.
Fritz moved up three spots to match his career high after winning a grass-court title at Stuttgart, Germany, on Sunday. The top three men remained the same: No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 3 Alexander Zverev, the runner-up to Fritz in Stuttgart.

After the Lakers' early postseason exit, James has been co-hosting his "Mind the Game" podcast along with Hall of Famer Steve Nash. He's undoubtedly hoping the Lakers upgrade the rest of their roster, particularly at the center position, so that he will have a real shot at winning his fifth NBA championship next season.

Katie Boulter says death threats and abuse highlight dark side of tennis betting
LONDON (AP) — British tennis player Katie Boulter has told the BBC she received death threats targeting her and her family during the French Open, saying in an interview that online abuse has become the norm and that she is worried about the impact it will have on younger players. Boulter, who is 28-year-old and ranked No. 39 in the WTA, said she believes many of the abusive messages are sent by people who are placing bets on tennis matches, The message threatening her loved ones was sent during her French Open first-round match against Carole Monnet on May 29. After losing the first-set tie-break, Boulter won the match 6-7 (4), 6-1. 6-1. But the loss of the tiebreaker prompted the outrage. 'Hope you get cancer,' said one message. Another mentioned damaging her 'grandmother's grave if she's not dead by tomorrow' and 'candles and a coffin for your entire family.' A third said: 'Go to hell, I lost money my mother sent me.' Boulter, who shared with the BBC screenshots of the messages, said she is worried about the toll the widespread abuse takes on younger players. 'At the very start of my career, it's probably something I took very personally... getting comments about the way you look,' she said. 'It becomes more apparent every single time you go on your phone. 'I think it increases in number and it also increases in the level of things that people say. I don't think there's anything off the cards now.' Many other players have previously reported online abuse . In a bid to try to protect athletes from that sort of abuse, the International Tennis Federation (ITF), Women's Tennis Association (WTA), All England Lawn Tennis Club and United States Tennis Association in 2023 launched the Threat Matrix. The program monitors public-facing social accounts for abusive and threatening content on social networks. It also provides support for players. According to statistics provided to the BBC by data science firm Signify, the ITF and WTA, about 8,000 abusive, violent or threatening messages were sent publicly to 458 tennis players through their social media accounts in 2024. Boulter, who received abuse after wins as well as losses, said a lot of it comes from people who have placed bets on her matches. 'As far as death threats, it's just not something you want to be reading straight after an emotional loss,' she said. 'A lot of the time you get it after you win as well.' According to Signify, angry gamblers sent 40% of all detected abuse, with messages clearly related to betting activity because of the timing or content of the abuse. Associated Press GALLE, Sri Lanka (AP) — Offspinner Tharindu Ratnayake took two wickets in his test debut for Sri Lanka on Tuesday as Bangladesh struggled to 90 for three in the first session of the series. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat in the first match of the new World Test Championship cycle but the morning session belonged to 29-year-old Ratnayake, who got his test cap after churning out wickets in the domestic circuit.
