Arjun Tendulkar To Open Bowling For India, Prithvi Shaw To Open Batting? Ignored Star Gives Approval

Arjun Tendulkar To Open Bowling For India, Prithvi Shaw To Open Batting? Ignored Star Gives Approval

Young batter Prithvi Shaw is going through a rough patch in his cricketing career. After being dropped and continuously ignored by the selectors for a spot in the Indian team, Shaw's biggest shocker came when was sidelined for Team Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 edition. Apart from this, he even failed to attract any buyers in the IPL 2025 auction and remained unsold. Many rumours were spread that the biggest reason of Shaw's sudden downfall is his unhealthy lifestyle and lack of discipline.
Recently, Shaw gave an interview to News24 Sports, where he was asked whether he visualises himself and Arjun Tendulkar playing for India, with Shaw opening the batting and Arjun opening the bowling.
"Absolutely. Why not?" said Shaw. For the unversed, both Shaw and Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, are childhood friends.
Talking about Shaw's IPL career, the 25-year-old batter played for Delhi Capitals for some years before getting released by the franchise after the 2024 season.
On the other hand, Arjun joined the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in 2022 and made his IPL debut in 2023. He played five matches for MI and was bought again by them during the 2-25 mega auctions. However, he did not get even a single game in that season.
Speaking about Arjun's IPL career, Shaw said, "Only when you play, you'd realise how talented and skilled he is."
Lastly, Shaw stated that his ultimate goal is to play for India in both ODI and T20 World Cups and he will be giving his best, in order to prepare for the upcoming edition.
"One of my goal is to win the World Cup for India. Both the World Cups, ODI and T20. The next World Cups will be in my mind, and I will prepare for them," said Shaw.
Shaw made his debut for India in 2018 in a Test match against West Indies. He scored 339 runs, including a century, in five Test matches that he played for India before getting dropped in 2020.
Apart from this, he played six ODIs and one T20I for India and his last appearance for the national side came in 2021.

Can Arshdeep be ideal replacement for Bumrah in India's playing 11 vs ENG?

The Indian cricket team's entry into the new era of red-ball cricket under the leadership of Shubman Gill was less than ideal. Despite five centuries from Indian batters, including Rishabh Pant's twin tons, which saw the team batting wonderfully in both innings of the first of the five-Test tour of England at Headingley, Leeds, the visitors eventually lost the game by five wickets. The English side chased down a big target of 371 in the final innings, with 350 of those runs scored on the final day, exposing Indian bowlers' lack of wicket-taking skills. In the entire match, except Bumrah, no other bowler looked promising enough to put the English batters under pressure, and all of them were consistently leaking runs. Now, fresh media reports ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston, starting Wednesday, July 2, suggest that India might take the field without their premier ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, leaving a big void in the pace attack. The visitors do have two pace bowlers on the bench in the form of Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh. While Akash Deep's match experience might earn him some backing ahead of Arshdeep, who is yet to make his Test debut, the numbers and form suggest that Arshdeep should be Gill and Gambhir's ideal choice for the Edgbaston Test. Arshdeep Singh brings the variation India needs If Bumrah does not play the second Test vs England, India will have Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna in the mix. But all three have almost similar stock deliveries, making it easier for the English batters to play their attacking game. However, Arshdeep Singh, being a left-handed pacer, brings much-needed variation to the bowling attack. Since most of the English batters are right-handed, if the wicket offers swing, Arshdeep could prove a tough challenge for the hosts. Moreover, Arshdeep's bowling angle will differ significantly from India's right-handed bowlers. This could create extra rough marks on the pitch, which Indian spinners might exploit to trap the English batters. Arshdeep Singh's stint in county cricket If India includes Arshdeep in the playing 11 for the second Test, it will be his first time playing red-ball cricket in an India jersey. However, while it may be his first Test for India, it is not his first red-ball outing in England, as the pacer has played matches in county cricket for Kent. Arshdeep has represented Kent in five county matches. Across eight innings in those games, he took 13 wickets at an average of 41.69. In addition, he has played a total of 21 first-class matches, taking 66 wickets—proof that he can hold his own in red-ball cricket despite being known as a white-ball specialist. ALSO READ: Arshdeep and Bumrah: A tried and tested duo While Arshdeep's debut might come at the cost of Bumrah's absence, if the Punjab-based bowler can perform well and translate his white-ball form into red-ball success, he could become the bowling partner India has been seeking for Bumrah. The two players are no strangers to bowling in tandem, having proven to be a match-winning combo for India in their victorious 2024 ICC T20 World Cup campaign, where they took 32 wickets together in just eight matches. If Arshdeep justifies his selection, he could become the ideal partner for Bumrah in India's pace attack when the ace pacer returns to the squad.

‘Maybe his wife could be number one, competing for it. I am his number one fan': R Ashwin on Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is arguably one of the best fast bowlers India has produced and is among the top bowlers of all time. Former Indian off-spinner R Ashwin would say that Bumrah should be respected in the same brackets as Sachin Tendulkar or Virat Kohli. The 38-year-old would also go on to say he is Bumrah's number one fan. 'I have praised him a lot. But the word you said will not come out of my mouth. But the point is, he is fabulous. That's all I want to leave. He was born in this world. All these things become a soap opera. I am not one of those drama artists. I don't want to market anyone. But he is a fabulous cricketer,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. 'I really wish that we go that route (In giving Bumrah the same respect as Tendulkar and Kohli). I am still saying that as much as we do for Rohit Sharma, or Virat Kohli, or Sachin Tendulkar, we don't do the same for Jassi. Definitely more than what a bowler usually has. He's got a lot of respect. He's got a lot of fans. A lot of people love him. I am his number one fan. Maybe his wife could be number one, competing for it. I am his number one fan,' Ashwin further said. Ashwin would analyze how Bumrah exploits Root's technique. 'He is on a different pedestal. He is in a different world. And the problem is, it's not about the uniqueness of his action. It is about the quality of execution. How does he execute? The way he troubled Joe Root in the first innings, proper. Joe Root was not able to pick the length. The ball was a little far. He could have played the rest of the bowlers in the backfoot, would have tapped it to third man. But not to Bumrah,' Ashwin said. 'He came forward. Because he was worried about the ball nipping back in. And he didn't pick the length. He chased it a little. It went in the slip. He is just a fabulous bowler. The ball of Zak Crawley in the first innings, how many can he bowl that? He is almost past the vertical. From there, he dropped it in the middle stump. He has taken that out. That needs great awareness, great wrist position, quality execution, and an unbelievable amount of work to try and keep his body in that shape to do this,' Ashwin added. 'He is on a different plane altogether. And I would be very proud to say I played with Jassi. I batted against Jassi. I was in a team with Jassi. And I have seen some fabulous victories. And I have played together with him. He is one of the legends. He is right up there. If not, better than some of the batters in our country.'
