Homebound Brits were left stranded upon their arrival back in the UK at Bristol Airport, after 20 cars failed to be returned to their owners.
Police have launched a crackdown operation against these unofficial 'companies' after receiving numerous complaints.
The reports to the police detailed vehicles sustaining damage and unaccounted extra miles on the clock.
The airport's policing team collaborated with the Immigration Enforcement Team, North Somerset Council and the Motor Insurance Bureau during an enforcement day on June 3.

The forces discovered 20 vehicles which had not been returned to their rightful owners.
Consequently, many were left marooned at Bristol Airport for hours waiting for their cars to be recovered before they could get back home.
Some of those unable to leave the airport were families with young children.
The officer in the case supporting the operation, Sgt Danielle Hardaway said: "The last thing anyone wants is the worry over whether their car will be returned to them or not when they return from holiday.

"This operation was carried out as part of our commitment to keep the airport safe, maintain vehicle standards, and to promote the safety of passengers going to and from the airport, who should be able to do so with confidence in using licensed vehicles.
"We have had reports of cars being returned damaged or with excess mileage and, in some cases, have been driven by people who are uninsured as well as being involved in driving offences."
The cars have now been returned to their owners by the police.
However many of them were found to be in undrivable or unroadworthy conditions.

Avon and Somerset police even reported that some cars had been left in hazardous or obstructive places around nearby villages - such that they required towing.
The police have issued a photo which shows one customer's car being used to distribute keys around the local areas.
In the picture, keys are piled on the front seat and in the footwell, which poses a threat risk.
Following the operation, investigations are underway into three unlicensed 'taxis' and other suspected offences including no insurance, immigration, and licensing issues.

Dave Lees, Chief Executive, Bristol Airport, said: "We welcome this latest operation and will continue to work with colleagues at Avon and Somerset Police and North Somerset Council to tackle these rogue operators.
"They are a nuisance to local communities and cause distress to customers who use them – with many completely unaware of where their cars end up.
"We urge everyone to look for the Park Mark accreditation, which all of our car parks have, so they have the peace of mind knowing their vehicle is safely parked while they enjoy their trip away.
"We also ask our customers to be respectful of our neighbours and not to park or drop off outside their houses or drop litter."

Sgt Hardaway also offered some guidance to holidaymakers to avoid this happening in future: "We are now in the summer months and therefore a busy holiday season for both travellers and Bristol Airport alike.
"We ask people to always choose reputable parking operators, and to choose them carefully, and if the price seems too good to be true, then it often is."
"We advise people, when booking parking anywhere, to look for the British Parking Association's police-backed Park Mark Safer Parking scheme."

Max Verstappen's blunt comment on F1 ban says it all after George Russell U-turn

Max Verstappen is one penalty point away from incurring a Formula 1 race ban ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, following his collision with George Russell in Barcelona Max Verstappen said it would "not be the end of the world" if he were banned from taking part in a Formula 1 race. That's despite his title defence already looking difficult with the Red Bull racer 49 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri. Verstappen has 11 penalty points on his racing licence, having been given three last time out at the Spanish Grand Prix. That, alongside a 10-second time penalty, was his punishment for driving into George Russell towards the end of the Barcelona race. ‌ It means he is one more penalty point away from becoming only the second F1 driver to be banned under the current system, after Kevin Magnussen last year. Not that he appears to be too concerned about the prospect of being forced to sit out a race. ‌ Asked if he felt being so close to a ban in might change the way he and others will battle on track at this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen said: "It's there, right? There's nothing that you can do about it. "So we just focus ahead and try to do the best that we can every single time. It's not changing my approach – I cannot speak for others. If you look at it in general, missing a race is not ideal, but it's not the end of the world." Russell said in the aftermath of that Barcelona incident that he felt Verstappen had deliberately driven into his Mercedes. Speaking in Montreal, the Brit said he had changed his view on that, but showed little sympathy for his Red Bull rival's predicament. He said: "If [Verstappen] gets to 12 points, [a ban] wouldn't be unjust. At the end of the day, that's why the penalty points are there. If you keep driving recklessly you will accumulate points, and get punished with a race ban. You've got it in your own hands and it doesn't go without risk. ‌ "He was trying to run me off the road. I don't think he was trying to intentionally crash into me. He wanted to just sort of scare me a bit, but he just misjudged it. Again, it wasn't going to scare me, it was just all a bit surprising." Verstappen issued a statement the morning after the Barcelona race in which he admitted he was wrong to have collided with Russell. That social media post did not include an apology, though Russell says he is not after one and was simply surprised to see Verstappen shoulder the blame. "I'm not looking for an apology. His actions cost him and they benefited me, so I should be almost thanking him. Obviously, I'd be feeling very differently if it took me out of the race. But it is good to see that he took accountability. I was a bit surprised about that."

He was pulled unconscious from the beach, according to reports. The man was rushed to the Archangelos Health Centre, but was sadly pronounced dead. His exact cause of death is not yet known. An autopsy is expected to be carried out to determine the exact cause of death. He is not the only Brit to have died while on holiday in recent months. It comes after a Brit dad died while on holiday in Turkey after being escorted off a plane for being drunk. Builder Ben Crook from Caerphilly, South Wales had been in Antalya with his partner and two kids to celebrate his 32nd birthday. But he was escorted off their flight due to behaving erratically on the plane after drinking alcohol. He was separated from his family, who went to the hotel. But the dad died from a fall before he made it there to join them. Elsewhere, a two-year-old British boy drowned in a pool at a private villa in Ibiza. The tot was found in the swimming pool without a pulse, local news outlet Diario de Ibiza reported. Rhodes remains a popular tourist spot for Brit holidaymakers. The island was recently rocked by a 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Greece and Turkey. It was felt along the Turquoise Coast and in neighbouring regions, waking many from their sleep.
