Beddall back to lead Wales U20s against Italy
Flanker Harry Beddall returns for Wales Under-20s to face their Italian counterparts at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday (16:30 BST).The game is Wales' last before the head to the 2025 World Rugby Junior Championship which kicks off in Italy at the end of June.Beddall will come into a back row that includes number eight Evan Minto - he is one of three survivors from Wales' 47-14 defeat by England in Pontypool last Friday.Fly-half Harri Ford and wing Ioan Duggan also hold onto their spots to face Italy in an otherwise much-changed matchday squad."We wanted to use the England game as an opportunity for some guys that hadn't had much game time to experience top-end match action and this Italy game was earmarked as final preparation for the World Cup and so it was almost a case of getting a few boys some minutes before we get on the plane," said Whiffin. Wales edged past Italy in the U20 Six Nations and Whiffin expects a stern challenge from the visitors.He said: "They will be a very tough team, you only have to go back to the game in the Six Nations and how tough it was out there."We snuck over the line thanks to a last minute shot at goal by them. It was a tough battle, they have got a very strong pack, possess a strong kicking game and have some really quick outside backs so they will challenge us right across the field." Wales' World Championship kicks off against Argentina on 29 June with games against France and Spain to follow.

Bristol name ex-Scotland hooker Lawson head coach
Bristol Bears women have appointed Scott Lawson as their new head coach ahead of the 2025-26 Premiership Women's Rugby (PWR) season. The 43-year-old joins from the Scottish Rugby Union where he has been a specialist skills coach for their women's squad, men's under-20s team and Glasgow Warriors' academy 16-year playing career saw him win 47 international caps for Scotland and make 250 appearances for clubs including Glasgow, Sale, Gloucester, London Irish and Newcastle, where he retired in hooker, who has also worked as director of rugby at the University of St Andrews, will make the move to Bristol following the U20 World Championship in Italy, which is being held from 29 June to 19 July. The Scot comes in following the departure of former head coach Dave Ward in April, after four years in the Bears finished fourth last season to reach their fourth successive PWR semi-final, but were beaten by Gloucester-Hartpury in what proved to be Ward's final match. He also took the team to their first final in 2024, where they were also beaten by said he planned to work hard and be relentless to aim to bring success to the club."From the moment I spoke with Daisie Mayes [general manager] and Pat Lam [director of rugby] it was clear that the vision for the women's programme and the aligned approach across the whole club was something I really wanted to be a part of," Lawson said."I've loved my time with Scottish Rugby and will always be grateful for the experiences and relationships I've built there, which I'll continue to value moving forward. "But this was an exciting opportunity I simply couldn't resist."The club have not disclosed the length of Lawson's contract. "His vast coaching and playing experience across a range of different environments and levels, together with his passion for the role, understanding of the club vision and focus on player development and winning impressed us during the interview process," Lam said.

Bath ‘don't feel any burden' in Premiership final
Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan feels his squad do not carry the burden of expectation at ending the club's long wait for another league title as they prepare to face Leicester in the Gallagher Premiership final. Having finished 11 points clear of the Tigers at the top of the regular-season table, Bath then saw off rivals Bristol to secure a return to the Allianz Stadium, where they were edged out 25-21 by Northampton last year. Van Graan's side ended the club's 17-year trophy drought earlier in the campaign by lifting the Premiership Rugby Cup before then winning the European Challenge Cup last month with victory over Lyon in Cardiff. Bath last won the league in 1996, fishing top of the table ahead of Leicester by just one point for the Somerset's club's sixth title in a decade of dominance. Despite the long wait to again be crowned England's best, Van Graan – who took over at The Recreation Ground ahead of the 2022-23 season having left Munster – insists his side remain focused on writing their own chapter by completing what would be a memorable treble. 'When I joined Bath, you look at the history, the tradition, you read up on the club, and you see that this club at a time was was incredibly successful, specifically through the 1980s and the 90s,' the South African coach said. 'One thing that we all did together is we respect our history, but we started the club at zero in our minds on July 11, 2022. 'We respect everybody and everything that has gone before, but for us, it has been a journey of the last three years. 'It is all about this circle and this group of people, whilst loving the people that support this club. 'Ultimately, you do sport because you want to belong to something – and we belong to this club at this stage of our different journeys. 'This is an amazing club with an amazing support base, and we are very proud of that. We are very proud that we can belong to, and for, this group. 'It is another moment in time and we have got an amazing opportunity. There is no expectation and we don't feel any burden. 'The only thing we feel is each other and inside of that circle, and that is what we are doing.' Bath thrashed Leicester 43-15 in May, scoring seven tries, having also won at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium in September. Van Graan, though, has warned against any sense of complacency at Twickenham, which will be the last game in charge for Tigers head coach Michael Cheika and for Leicester stalwarts Dan Cole and Ben Youngs ahead of their retirement. 'It is definitely a stand-alone fixture,' van Graan said. 'Obviously, you do your homework and you look at what's worked for you, what didn't, what worked for them, what didn't. 'You look at every game in a different way but a final is so unique, it is the last game of the season for both clubs. 'Leicester is a club we respect but ultimately it's about our performance and what we need to do, so that's been the sole focus for us this week. 'It has been about 'how can we get better?' Our process is something that's worked well for us, so we are going to stick to what we do.'
