South African cricketer Heinrich Klaasen, one of the best white-ball players in the world, announced his retirement from international cricket at 33.
South African batter and one of the best white-ball players in the world, Heinrich Klaasen, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 33.
Klaasen played four Tests, 60 ODIs and 58 T20Is for the Proteas, scoring 104, 2141, and 1000 runs in the respective formats. He made his international debut in an ODI against India in Cape Town in February 2018, immediately impressing with his technique against spin.
Eventually, with more consistency in the last four years, he became one of the most brutal hitters of the ball in T20 and ODI middle-orders, becoming one of the most sought-after in T20 leagues around the world.
'It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket. It took me a long time to decide what's best for me and my family for the future. It was truly a very difficult decision, but also one that I have absolute peace with," he wrote in a post on Instagram.
'From the first day, it was the biggest privilege representing my country and it was everything that I have worked for and dreamed about as a young boy. I have made great friendships and relationships that I will treasure for life. Playing for the Proteas gave me the opportunity to meet great people that changed my life, and to those people I can't say thank you enough. My road to wearing the Proteas shirt was different than most and there were certain coaches in my career that kept believing in me – to them I will always be grateful," he added.
The wicketkeeper-batter concluded by saying: 'To have played with the Proteas badge on my chest was and will always be the biggest honour in my career. I look forward to spending more time with my family as this decision will allow me to do so. I will always be a big Proteas supporter and would like to thank everyone that supported me and my teammates during my career."
Klaasen was Sunrisers Hyderabad's most expensive retention in IPL 2025 and would likely continue to feature in T20 leagues around the world.

Meet the 'unluckiest' cricketer in IPL history, lost finals with many teams, his name is...

In this collection of pictures we shall know about the 'unluckiest' cricketer in IPL history. Interestingly, whichever team he played final for lost it. Let's dive in. Punjab Kings have faced defeat in the final match of IPL 2025. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated them by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and won the title for the first time. The Punjab team was also eyeing its first trophy, but it was disappointed. This team, which reached the title match after 2014, had to return empty-handed. 11 years ago too, it had lost in the final. Then the Punjab team captained by George Bailey was defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders. Punjab Kings' legendary leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is the most heartbroken by this defeat. This bowler, who has taken the most wickets in IPL history, could not lift the trophy after reaching the final for the third time. Yuzvendra Chahal bowled 4 overs in the final and took one wicket for 37 runs. His team restricted RCB to a score of 190/9 in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab's team could only score 184 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal had reached the finals twice before. He had to face defeat both times. In 2016, he was in the RCB team. Then Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated them in the final. After that, he went to the Rajasthan Royals team and played an important role in taking them to the finals in 2022. Unfortunately, Yuzvendra Chahal lost the title match for the second time. This time, Gujarat Titans, which was making its IPL debut, defeated him. Now, when Chahal entered the final for the third time, his old team RCB was in front of him. Once again, the result did not come in favour of this leg-spinner's team. On social media, the fans are commenting about Yuzvendra Chahal as the 'unluckiest' cricketer in IPL history.

Last Updated: Punjab Kings fought hard in the IPL 2025 final but had to settle for the runners-up shield as Royal Challengers Bengaluru won their maiden trophy. Virat Kohli was trying to hold back tears as the crowd erupted into loud chants of 'RCB' at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru inching closer to their first ever IPL title. He soon sank to his knees when Josh Hazlewood delivered the final ball of the season and thus confirming RCB's six-run win over Punjab Kings in the final to bring an end to their 18-year-long wait for a silverware. RCB teammates, backroom staff among others flocked to hug and share the moment with Kohli near the boundary. Far from the celebrations, an emotional Shashank Singh was also battling emotions of his own after producing another blistering innings but this time in a losing cause. PBKS finisher Shashank had a season to remember as he played a key role in helping the franchise finish at the top of the points table and take them into the IPL playoffs for the first time since 2014. In the title clash, as the equation turned increasingly into RCB's favour, Shashank started firing on all cylinders as he began peppering the boundary. However, in the end his 30-ball 61 not out wasn't enough as RCB secured the title with a six-run win. The 33-year-old belted three fours and six sixes including. In the final over, PBKS needed to score 29 runs off Hazlewood. Shashank struck 22 with three sixes and a four. Fans on social media acknowledged his valiant effort, terming him 'true warrior' who fell short (of at least leveling the scores) by one ball. No camera captured him in the last, everyone was focusing on V kohli. This man deserves to be in every frame. 'A particularly special feeling': Andy Flower hails Virat Kohli, RCB after historic title win Emergency response was hampered as ambulances struggled to navigate through overcrowded roads to reach hospitals. The Karnataka government had previously cancelled the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium due to security concerns. "Unbelievable! Victory celebration broadcast of RCB parade continues. No mention of stampede. NOT DONE," read a post on X. "1 parade, 0 brains, & now 7 funerals. What kind of idiots plans a mass celebration without barricades, without strategy? This isn't a celebration gone wrong, this is an administration that went brain-dead," posted a user on X. "The most gut-wrenching aspect of the #ChinnaswamyStadium stampede is the shocking apathy shown—celebrations continued as bodies lay lifeless. Where is our humanity? These young Kannadigas died for nothing, without even respect in death. It's disgraceful, inhuman, and unforgivable. Those responsible must be named, shamed, and held criminally accountable," posted another user. The incident sparked widespread criticism on social media, with people questioning why celebrations continued while people were fighting for their lives outside the stadium.
