Rayan Mohammed wins historic Pakistan call-up as Scottish-born Dundee starlet looks to break new ground

Dundee youngster Rayan Mohammed has won his first senior call-up for Pakistan, with the Scottish-born striker continuing to be a beacon for the country's Asian community in football.
Mohammed burst onto the scene back in February 2023 when he made his first team debut for Alloa Athletic at the age of 17 after scoring goals for fun in the Wasps' youth set up.
The 19-year-old has yet to make his senior bow for Dundee following his arrival on Tayside in the following summer but has spent time out on loan with Forfar Athletic and Berwick Rangers - scoring two goals in League Two for the former in the 2023/24 season.
And the Edinburgh forward's displays have obviously caught the eye of Pakistan's English-born head coach Stephen Constantine. who has included the teen in his squad for the Asian Cup qualifying double header against Myanmar and Afghanistan next month.
Taking to Instagram to share news of the landmark moment, Mohammed - a product of the famed Hutchinson Vale academy - said: "Buzzing to be called up to the Pakistan international team", followed by a green heart emoji.
Record Sport interviewed the Dens Park attacker back in March 2023 after he had made the breakthrough with Alloa. And Mohammed outlined his huge ambitions to try and make a name for himself in Scotland by emulating his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.
He said: "I just want to be the best I can be.
"Obviously my dream is to make it to the Premier League and to play for Scotland and score lots of goals.
"I've always loved Ronaldo – you can tell he's such a hard worker and I'm all for that.
"It's the example I try to follow."
Mohammed - who scored for Berwick last season in a Challenge Cup win over Formartine - also told us about what was going through his head when Brian Rice handed him his Alloa debut for the last seven minutes of a 1-1 draw against Falkirk.
"Making my debut was a dream", he stated. "It was only when the gaffer told me to warm up that the nerves started kicking in.
"You make a lot of sacrifices to get to a stage like that and making my debut felt like a reward for all the hard work I've put in.
"My heart was beating fast when I ran onto the pitch but I felt like I did well.
"I won us a penalty so I was happy with my first appearance."

He could have been a massive player for Arsenal – they spoke about him as a future captain, everyone loves him there – but sometimes you don't have the luck in your career. Celtic is Kieran and Kieran is Celtic. He loves Celtic. "He might be thinking to himself, you know what, while I'm still young - and I don't want to go back when I'm 34, 35, 36 - I can go back and still massively impact the club I love for the next five or six years. I can go there and be one of Celtic's best players. I can play in the Champions League with my boyhood club. I can win more titles. "The one thing I can say about him is, even if he would have had an absolute blinder at Arsenal, even if he wasn't plagued by injury, he'd always go back home. "I wouldn't surprise me if he's been calling his mate Scott Brown and asking him if he would want to go back! KT and Broonie were like butter on bread. 'We had a tough start with Leinster at home at full strength and getting on the plane the next day and coming to South Africa for two games. We were good but we were inconsistent in our performance as well and didn't always get the results. But if you look at what the guys have achieved to get where they were and then to get into this position of the quarter-final, their efforts have to be commended. 'It's not easy to go into the last two rounds of competition needing 10 points to qualify. So, the fight that this team shows is really encouraging. "We've got a good environment. The players are proud of playing for Edinburgh. We saw that on Saturday. I know we fell short but those are the positives we can take out. There's a lot of growth that has taken place over the season. So, you can't look at this game in isolation. 'And we're certainly excited about what we can bring next year.' Man Utd encounter hold-up in Matheus Cunha's unveiling after £62.5m transfer
Manchester United announced the signing of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha on Sunday in a £62.5million transfer deal, but he wasn't unveiled in their usual fashion Manchester United fans will have to wait another fortnight to get their first look at new signing Matheus Cunha in a red shirt. The Red Devils announced on Sunday that they'd agreed to sign Cunha from Wolves, paying his £62.5million release clause to make the Brazilian their first addition of the summer transfer window. Cunha, 26, has signed a five-year contract which keeps him at Old Trafford until June 2030. There's also an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. Supporters noticed, however, that United's announcement was relatively low-key. The Red Devils didn't post any images of Cunha, nor were there any quotes available from boss Ruben Amorim or another figure at Old Trafford. Instead, a brief statement was posted on the club's website confirming that Cunha's hot-anticipated arrival was 'subject to visa and registration'. " Manchester United has reached agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Matheus Cunha," it read. "The Brazilian forward's signing is subject to visa and registration. The 26 year-old has 13 senior caps for Brazil, and, in his club career, has made 270 appearances and scored 72 goals in the English, Spanish, German and Swiss top flights. "During two-and-a-half seasons at Wolves, Cunha has scored 33 goals in 92 appearances. Everyone at Manchester United looks forward to welcoming Matheus to Old Trafford." It's understood that United will complete the signing of Cunha and unveil him after the international break which starts this week. The forward has been called up to play for Brazil, as the five-time World Cup winners face Ecuador and Paraguay over the next fortnight under new manager Carlo Ancelotti. Cunha also hasn't commented on his move publicly. The ex-Atletico Madrid star stayed at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Saturday with his family before jetting off to Brazil, where he'll hope to build on a his good final season with Wolves, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists in 36 games. Wolves, who helped avoid relegation thanks to Cunha's form, confirmed that his departure will earn them a club-record fee. The Premier League side added in their statement: "Everyone at Wolves would like to thank Matheus for his contributions in old gold and wish he and his family the best of luck for the future."
