Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras had been on the trade block for some time, and the team finally decided to pull the trigger Monday, sending him to the Philadelphia Flyers.

With new head coach Joel Quenneville now in the building, the writing was on the wall for Zegras, who was the runner-up for the Calder Trophy, given to the league's top rookie, in 2021-22.
According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Ducks received Ryan Poehling, a second-round draft pick in 2025 and a fourth-round draft pick in 2026 in the deal.
Zegras still has a lot of potential, even if the Ducks gave up on him. The young player improved his two-way abilities this past season and should give the Flyers a nice player to build around.
He is still only 24 years old, so he has plenty of time to keep growing his game. Zegras was once thought to be a foundational player for the Ducks after the team drafted in No. 9 overall in 2019.

Zegras has dealt with different injuries over the past few years, as well as bouts of inconsistency on the ice. This past season, he posted 12 goals and 20 assists over 57 games.

This is a move that should help out both sides, and it's a rare win-win. Anaheim gets extra draft capital to use down the line, while Philadelphia can start its rebuild with Zegras.

Thunder Urged to Trade Chet Holmgren, Draft Haul for 2-Time MVP After NBA Finals Win
Thunder Urged to Trade Chet Holmgren, Draft Haul for 2-Time MVP After NBA Finals Win originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Just minutes after the Oklahoma City Thunder won the first NBA title since relocating from Seattle in 2008, trade ideas to make the team even more dominant in a repeat bid came rolling in across social media. Advertisement Oklahoma City utilized the trade market after a second-round playoff exit last season to acquire star defensive guard Alex Caruso, who proved a perfect fit and a huge contributor to the team's 2025 title run. However, instead of an additive role player, the suggested swings this summer involve franchise-transforming talents like Milwaukee Bucks two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. "Trade Chet [Holmgren] and every pick for Giannis," Jack Settleman of Snapback Sports posted to X following the team's championship victory. "Win 3 straight titles. Be a dynasty." The idea isn't as outlandish as it might appear at first glance. Not only do the Thunder have the best young core in the league, becoming the youngest team in 48 years to win a championship, they also have a veritable treasure trove of quality draft assets and youthful depth already on the roster. Advertisement A consolidation trade for a superstar could elevate Oklahoma City to the next level and potentially put more distance between the team and the rest of the pack in the Western Conference and NBA as a whole. The Thunder required Game 7 wins at home against the Denver Nuggets in the second round and the Pacers in the Finals to earn the trophy they hoisted on Sunday night, June 22. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.© Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Holmgren missed the entirety of his first season due to injury, but finished second in Rookie of the Year voting two years ago behind only Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs after playing all 82 games. Health issues held Holmgren below the threshold for NBA awards in 2024-25, though he likely would have been a member of one of the league's two All-Defense teams. He's a true 7-footer who averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and 2.2 blocks per game last season and will play next year at just 23 years old. Advertisement Holmgren has All-Star upside and a long career ahead of him. A player like that, plus a treasure trove of future first-round draft picks is exactly the kind of deal Milwaukee will look for if Antetokounmpo asks out. On the Thunder's side, they could pair reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with a two-time winner of that award in Antetokounmpo, who finished third in MVP voting this year. The Bucks big man will turn just 31 next season and has several prime years remaining. The old cliché suggests that if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But it doesn't say anything about turning a championship team into a potential dynasty the likes of which the NBA hasn't seen since Kevin Durant joined the Golden State Warriors nine years ago. Giants Receive Justin Verlander News After Red Sox Game
Giants Receive Justin Verlander News After Red Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The San Francisco Giants continue to battle for playoff positioning with a 44-34 record, sitting 3.5 games behind the NL West-leading Dodgers and holding sole possession of the league's second Wild Card spot. Advertisement After winning two out of three games in a series against the Boston Red Sox this past weekend, they now aim to build on that momentum as they head into a series against the last-place Miami Marlins, who currently stand at 31-45. Much of the Giants' success this season has been driven by a consistently strong pitching staff. Ranked third in ERA at 3.26, the staff has also been exceptional in limiting power, giving up only 62 home runs—the second fewest in the league—and striking out 8.76 batters every nine innings. San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Justin Verlander (35)Neville E. Guard-Imagn Images Yet even as the rotation shines, offseason signing Justin Verlander has encountered his own set of challenges. Verlander recently returned to the mound last Wednesday after suffering a strained right pectoral, and in that outing, he allowed 4 runs in 4.2 innings—giving up 7 hits and 1 walk—and took the loss. Advertisement The veteran right-handed starter inked a one-year, $15 million deal heading into his age-42 season this offseason. In a recent roster move, the Giants optioned Tyler Fitzgerald to Triple-A as Verlander returned from paternity leave. In his 11 starts with the Giants this season, he is 0-4 with a 4.45 ERA, allowing 9.4 hits and posting 7.5 strikeouts per nine innings—numbers that fall well below his established career norms. Despite a career that includes an MVP, Triple Crown, three Cy Young Awards, nine All-Star selections, and two World Series championships over 20 seasons, his current performance thus far has been underwhelming and he will look to bounce back in his next scheduled start against Miami. Trevor Zegras trade grades for Flyers, Ducks
The post Trevor Zegras trade grades for Flyers, Ducks appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks connected on a trade involving Trevor Zegras on Monday. After a lot of rumors swirling around Zegras for the past year, his time with Anaheim has come to an end. He lands with Rick Tocchet and the Flyers, who gave up a second-rounder, a fourth-rounder, and Ryan Poehling. How did both sides fare in the deal? Advertisement The Flyers took on Zegras at his full contract value. He has one year left at $5.75 million and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the deal. They gave the Ducks the 45th overall pick in Saturday's second round with a fourth-round pick in the 2026 draft. Poehling has one year left at $1.9 million before he hits unrestricted free agency. The Flyers pay a price to land a high-upside player Sergei Belski-Imagn Images There is no denying that Zegras has incredible skill. He has some incredible highlight reel goals and assists in his young career, and landed on the cover of the EA Sports video game because of it. But he has struggled playing center in all three zones, something that is a mandate as a top-six center in the NHL. The Athletic's Kevin Kurz reported after the deal that the Flyers do expect him to play center. That is a high-reward gamble that they gave up a lot to make. Advertisement Zegras had two stellar seasons with the Ducks, 61 points in 2021-22 and 65 points in 2022-23. He was just 20 and 21 years old, respectively, when he had those seasons. Since then, it's been a significant drop-off, partially due to injuries. A fresh start may be exactly what he needs to bring the Flyers back to the postseason. If Zegras and Rick Tocchet see eye-to-eye, and he ascends to a point-per-game player, this is a great deal. If he continues his trivial NHL career, they gave up a lot, but not so much that it sets back their franchise. For a team floating in space, talent is a good bet. Flyers grade: B+ The Ducks end the Trevor Zegras experiment The Ducks won the Pacific Division in five straight seasons and made six straight postseason appearances from 2013-2018. That core did not win the Stanley Cup, and it was torn down in favor of a rebuild. In 2019, they took Zegras ninth overall as the second big piece of that rebuild. Now, he is gone, and the Ducks have not gotten any closer to the postseason. With Joel Quenneville and Pat Verbeek leading the show, there is reason to be optimistic about the future. But their first attempt at a rebuild was an epic failure. Advertisement That is not the fault of Zegras. He dealt with injuries, was not given elite linemates to play with, and the rest of the team was abysmal. Mason McTavish, Cutter Gauthier, and Pavel Mintyukov will now headline the second attempt at rebuilding to make the playoffs. Quenneville won three Stanley Cups with the Chicago Blackhawks, so he should be able to get the most out of this group. Poehling is a defensive, bottom-six player. He is also young and cheap against the salary cap. That is exactly what the Ducks needed this offseason, not another overpaid veteran to go along with Chris Kreider, Jacob Trouba, and Alex Killorn. Poehling helps them save money to spend in free agency. And the Ducks don't have to negotiate a new contract with Zegras, which would have taken away their opportunity to sign more players this offseason.
