'Katharina Day!' Shiffrin said in the finish area as she hugged the two racers who beat her.
'I actually feel pretty good about it,' Shiffrin said of her fifth slalom race in her comeback from a serious crash in November. 'I maybe wasn't always perfect but I was pushing really hard.'
Shiffrin's 156th top-3 result in her World Cup career broke a tie with Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark. Shiffrin also took the all-time wins record from Stenmark and now has 100 to his 86.

Truppe now has one from her 181st World Cup start, though she has three championship medals including the team event gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
'It's just: 'Wow.' I'm a little bit speechless,' said Truppe, who had been sixth-fastest in the morning run, trailing Shiffrin by 0.91. 'First victory, it's crazy. I will enjoy it and soak up all this emotion.'
Both Truppe and Shiffrin are aged 29 and won slalom bronze medals at the junior world championships though their careers were on different trajectories. Shiffrin won her medal aged 15 in 2011 and already had two World Cup slalom titles and Olympic gold before Truppe got her junior worlds medal in 2015.
Shiffrin needed to win Sunday to earn 100 race points and stay in contention — though only just – for a ninth career season-long slalom title. She missed four slalom races while recovering from her physical and psychological injuries.
'I'm still trying to get the repetition back. I just have to keep practicing it,' she said.
With Olympic slalom champion Petra Vlhova skipping the entire season to recover from a knee injury, the door opened for a new World Cup title winner.
The World Cup season-ending last slalom is at Sun Valley, Idaho, on March 27 with four skiers ahead of Shiffrin and within 100 points of the lead to lift the crystal globe trophy.

Title-chasing contenders Zrinka Ljutic and Camille Rast, the world championships gold medalist last month, both were below their best form Sunday and placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
Ahead of going to the United States, the 21-year-old Ljutic leads Rast in the slalom standings by 41 points and will win the title with a top-three result. Liensberger, the 2021 champion, and Rast's Swiss teammate Wendy Holdener also could win.
Shiffrin said she plans to train in Europe before the trip across seven time zones, to the Idaho resort that last staged World Cup races in 1977.
'There's certainly some travel challenges. It's a really long distance,' she said. 'I guess one more race this season for me but I'm looking forward to it.'

Sports Seriously ST. LOUIS — The UFL was hopeful its second season as a unified spring football league would afford it opportunities to expand upon the attendance it drew in 2024. Instead, the league's overall attendance declined by 5%, according to the Sports Business Journal. Seven of the UFL's eight home markets had their average attendance drop in 2025, with the Michigan Panthers' 30.4% increase in attendance serving as the outlier. Four markets – Arlington, Birmingham, Houston and Memphis – averaged fewer than 10,000 fans per game. The league's TV viewership also declined, as its games had an average of 645,000 viewers in 2025, down from 812,000 in 2024. While the results weren't what the league was hoping, its leadership continues to insist it is willing to do whatever it takes to create growth across its eight markets. "We're not shying away from it," UFL president Russ Brandon said of the league's attendance challenge at the league's championship game media day in St. Louis. "It's certainly something that we're running towards." "We were drinking out of a fire hose operationally to get up and running," Brandon explained. The UFL was better positioned to start addressing its attendance challenges in 2025. It spent resources adding personnel and advertising in each of the league's eight home markets while attempting to create more connectivity between those markets and the UFL Hub in Arlington. Even so, the league was still learning about itself and the audience with which it was trying to connect. "Our first-year merge was murky for us to understand; what does the market actually think of us, and who are we?" Garcia said. "This is the year that we got the clarity, and now we know who we are, and now we push forward." What will pushing forward entail? Brandon offered that the league is "looking at every way to re-engage and look at our marketplace in each separate silo as we move forward." "We know this: We have a great product. We know it's affordable," Brandon said. "We're trying to activate as much as possible in each of these local markets. And we have a great plan, I believe, in place to do that." He also noted the league isn't worried at all about the ratings decline, opining they were still "phenomenal" compared to other programming. "People would give their eyeteeth for the amount of eyeballs that are watching our games on TV," he said. But for now, the UFL's executive vice president of football operations Daryl Johnston acknowledged the league wants its focus to remain on celebrating the Michigan Panthers and DC Defenders as they square off in the league's season-concluding championship game. Wings acquire center Li Yueru from Storm, who fills immediate roster need
The Dallas Wings are adding some frontcourt help for No. 1 pick Paige Bueckers. The team acquired center Yi Lueru from the Seattle Storm on Saturday in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick and 2027 third-rounder. Lueru, 26, recently requested a trade, dissatisfied with the playing time she was getting with the Storm. Averaging 8.7 minutes, the 6-foot-7 center was scoring 2.8 points and 1.6 points in nine games. Advertisement A third-round selection of the Atlanta Dream in 2019, Lueru has been traded three times during her WNBA career while playing for the Chicago Sky and Los Angeles Sparks. Last season with the Sparks, she averaged 5.1 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, shooting 49% from the floor. During the offseason, Yueru went to the Storm as part of the blockbuster three-team deal that sent Jewell Loyd to the Las Vegas Aces and Kelsey Plum to the Sparks. Prior to joining the WNBA, Yueru played nine seasons in the Women's Chinese Basketball Association for the Guangdong Dolphins and Inner Mongolia. Thus far, her production has been far below her performance for the Chinese national team, for whom she scored 17.7 points with 11 rebounds per game during last summer's Paris Olympics. The Chinese federation reportedly wants Yueru to receive more playing time if she continues playing in the WNBA, according to ESPN. Advertisement That could happen with Dallas, who only has one true center on the roster in Luisa Geiselsoder. Geiselsoder is averaging 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. However, she left the Wings to play for Germany in EuroBasket, so Yueru fills an immediate need on the roster. Despite their last-place 1-11 record. the Wings average 35.7 rebounds per game, fifth in the WNBA. Yueru will presumably help with that. Bueckers is scoring 17.4 points with 6.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game, while shooting 42% on 3-pointers. The Wings are also getting 16.6 points per game from Arike Ogunbowale. Dallas has lost seven consecutive games after Friday's 88-84 defeat to the Aces. The Wings are off until Tuesday when they host the Golden State Valkyries.
