Nissan unveils new Leaf electric car
The third generation model will go on sale later this year, with a range of up to 375 miles on a single charge.
It is the first model to be launched under Nissan's blueprint for electric vehicle production, engineered at its research and development centre in Cranfield, Bedfordshire.
It will be powered by batteries from AESC – Britain's newest gigafactory – which is situated next to the Nissan plant in Sunderland where it will be built.
Alan Johnson, senior vice president of manufacturing and supply chain management at Nissan Motor Manufacturing, said: 'It's with immense pride that we unveil the third-generation of our pioneering electric Leaf, 12 years after we brought EV and battery manufacturing to the UK.
'It's a testament to the skill of our world-class team that we can bring into mass production a vehicle with such advanced technology and aerodynamic design.'
James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, said: 'Leaf is a pioneering electric vehicle that has encouraged thousands to make the switch to electric motoring – and best of all, it's built here in Britain.'
Nissan's new fully electric Micra, designed in London, will go on sale later this year, and the company will launch a smaller city car in 2026.

Nissan leaf being sold for £19,000 - but there's a catch as it's dubbed 'Nissan grief' by viewers Let's just say the original Leaf was a rubbish getaway car. You'd be better off on foot. This new one has the option of a 270-mile battery or a 375-mile battery. So you might need to charge it once a fortnight. The smooth body and flat belly help it slice through the air. Steering wheel paddles adjust the levels of braking regen to add more electrons on the go. After trying a prototype, I am pleased to say Leaf 3.0 drives nicely too. Smooth, quiet, sophisticated, fast when you want to go fast, relaxed when you don't. The new multi-link rear axle, compared to the old torsion-beam set-up, really improves ride and handling. It's actually shorter than the old car, with a smaller turning circle, so it's easier to park and manoeuvre in town. Yet the cabin is bigger. There's room for a rear-facing child seat in the back. There wasn't before. The boot is bigger and more useful with luggage dividers from a Qashqai. Up front, that slick twin-screen dash has built-in Google for maps, music and more. Bose headrest speakers direct satnav and calls to the driver's lugholes. So they don't spoil the song for everyone else. The big glass roof, with thermal protection, dims in sections. And actually increases headroom. There's lots of charging ports for devices and drink holders for your Five Guys milkshakes. Like I said, proper family car. Other observations. The 3D rear lights. I like them. Two upright bars and three horizontal bars. That's because 'two' and 'three' in Japanese sound like 'Ni' and 'San'. 5 The big glass roof, with thermal protection, dims in sections. Let's hope there's a sporty Leaf NISMO further down the line because I'm told there's room for a rear e-motor to make it 4WD. For now, though, we applaud Sunderland for giving us a practical electric car we would be proud to own. It just needs a badge that says it's home-grown.

Rather than abandon these aging models, Honda, with the cooperation of various partners, is investing in new solutions to continue supplying replacement parts that are no longer available. These solutions include 3D printing and 'remanufacturing,' which is essentially refurbishing used products and reselling them as functionally new products. Honda claims that these parts will meet the same performance and functional standards as the original ones, and are meant to preserve the function and performance of older Hondas. Original NSX Will Kickstart the Program Honda hasn't shared the list of supported models, but we know which one would kickstart the program. It will be the first-generation Acura NSX (or Honda NSX in other markets), which debuted in 1989. Yes, the mid-engine Japanese supercar is now 36 years old, and it will be the first vehicle covered under a new factory-backed restoration service launching in Japan that will operate in tandem with the parts program. This new offering will effectively replace the NSX Refresh Plan, which has been in place since 1993 and will officially end in summer 2025. Unlike the outgoing program, the new restoration effort will use both genuine and OEM-compatible parts to make service more accessible to a wider range of customers. More details are expected to be released in fall 2025, although Honda hinted that other enthusiast models could be included in the future, potentially classics like the Honda CRX or early Civic Si.
