T20 Mumbai League 2025 Auction: Atharva Ankolekar emerges costliest player; Musheer Khan, Ayush Mhatre among top buys
All-rounder Atharva Ankolekar emerged the costliest buy as the T20 Mumbai League 2025 auction witnessed intense bidding wars in Mumbai on Wednesday, as eight teams spent ₹7.79 crores to build highly competitive 18-member squads, according to a release from T20 Mumbai League.
The T20 Mumbai League, one of India's leading franchise-based domestic T20 tournaments, is all set for a highly anticipated third season, scheduled to be played at the Wankhede Stadium from May 26 to June 8.
Around 280 players went under the hammer as each team came up with a strategic approach to assemble a balanced squad comprising a mix of young, upcoming talent and experienced campaigners. The spotlight was on all-rounders, with 24-year-old Ankolekar securing the highest bid of the auction, to join Eagle Thane Strikers for ₹16.25 lakh. During the T20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final 2024, Ankolekar had played a significant role in Mumbai's victory. Musheer Khan, a member of the Punjab Kings squad, and Sairaj Patil were the other all-rounders who attracted mega deals of ₹15 lakh each. Musheer went to ARCS Andheri, while Sairaj was signed by Eagle Thane Strikers.
Rising stars from IPL 2025, Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, were picked up by Triumph Knights Mumbai North East and SoBo Mumbai Falcons for ₹14.75 lakh and ₹14 lakh respectively. Akash Parkar was the highlight from the 'Development Players' category as the all-rounder fetched more than five times his base price (2 lakh) to find a place in SoBo Mumbai Falcons for an impressive ₹11.25 lakh.
"It's truly encouraging to see emerging players gaining the recognition they deserve. This league continues to serve as a platform to identify and promote promising cricketing talent. The strategic approach of teams during today's auction reflects their deep commitment to the league and its vision. With a balanced mix of experienced players and exciting talent, fans can look forward to high-voltage action as we aim to set a new benchmark for domestic T20 cricket," commented MCA President Ajinkya Naik, as quoted from a release from the T20 Mumbai League.
India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, who is also an Icon Player of Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, also attended the auction and spoke about the league's role as a stepping stone for young cricketers. "You must have seen in 2018, Shivam Dubey had a terrific T20 Mumbai League season and then he went on to make a name for himself. Similarly, having such league for your state is I think a big boost for all the cricketers across categories. So I think it's a good thing and hopefully it [the league] happens every year and we get a lot of players," said Suryakumar Yadav.
Expressing his happiness after becoming the most expensive buy in the auction, Ankolekar said: "I'm truly excited to play in the T20 Mumbai League and join Eagle Thane Strikers. It's a big moment for me, and I'm grateful for the trust the team has placed in me. I'm looking forward to sharing the field with players like Shardul Thakur. A big thank you to the MCA for bringing this league back--it's a fantastic platform for Mumbai cricketers. My focus is now to make the most of this opportunity in my debut season and contribute to the team's success."
The league also features a star-studded line-up of icon players which includes Suryakumar Yadav (Triumph Knights Mumbai North East), Ajinkya Rahane (Bandra Blasters), Shreyas Iyer (SoBo Mumbai Falcons), Prithvi Shaw (North Mumbai Panthers), Shivam Dube (ARCS Andheri), Shardul Thakur (Eagle Thane Strikers), Sarfaraz Khan (Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs) and Tushar Deshpande (Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals).

4 Players RCB Might Release Despite Winning IPL 2025 Title: Liam Livingstone, Mayank Agarwal And...
photoDetails english 2912162 Updated:Jun 06, 2025, 09:55 PM IST 1. Liam Livingstone 1 / 8 England all-rounder Liam Livingstone was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Rs. 8.75 crore during the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction. However, he didn't perform up to the expectations for RCB in the IPL 2025 season, scoring only 112 runs in 10 matches with an ordinary average of 16.00 and picked just two wickets. Livingstone was dropped from RCB's playing XI in the middle of the tournament and was later recalled in place of injured Tim David during the knockouts. Given his ordinary performance during IPL 2025 season, RCB might consider releasing Livingstone and buy a more impactful all-rounder ahead of the next season. Liam Livingstone's IPL Record 2 / 8 Liam Livingstone, who is known for his six hitting ability, has scored 1051 runs in 49 IPL matches with an average of 26.27 and strike rate of 158.76 so far. He has picked 13 wickets. 2. Mayank Agarwal 3 / 8 Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) signed Mayank Agarwal as an injury replacement for Devdutt Padikkal during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Padikkal was in fine form before being ruled out of the tournament, scoring 247 runs in 10 matches with the help of two half-centuries. Mayank, who is an IPL veteran, played just 4 four matches for RCB in IPL 2025 season, scoring 94 runs with an average of 31.66 and strike rate of 148.43. However, with Padikkal's return expected next season, RCB might consider releasing Mayank in order to free up funds ahead of the next season. Mayank Agarwal's IPL Record 4 / 8 Mayank Agarwal, who has played for multiple franchises, has scored 2756 runs in 131 IPL matches with an average of 22.96 and strike rate of 133.52 so far. 2. Rasikh Salam Dar 5 / 8 Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Rasikh Salam was picked up by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for Rs 6 crores during the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. However, Rasikh played just 2 matches for RCB during the IPL 2025 the presence of pacers like Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yash Dayal and others, it was very difficult for Rasikh to cement a place in the RCB playing XI. Given his high salary and less utility, RCB might consider releasing Rasikh in order to free up funds and pick another pacer ahead of the next season. Rasikh Salam Dar's Record In IPL 6 / 8 In his very short IPL career, young pacer Rasikh Salam Dar has played for four franchises. He has picked 10 wickets in 13 IPL matches with an average of 40.90 and economy rate of 10.62 so far. 4. Lungi Ngidi 7 / 8 South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi was acquired by RCB for IPL 2025 at his base price of Rs 1 crore during the mega auction. Ngidi played just two matches for RCB in IPL 2025 in absence of injured Josh Hazlewood and picked four wickets at an economy rate of 10.12. Given the lack of confidence from RCB management, Ngidi might be released by the franchise ahead of the next season. Lungi Ngidi's IPL Record 8 / 8 South Africa pacer Lungi Ngidi, who was part of the CSK's 2018 title-winning campaign, has picked 29 wickets in 16 IPL matches at an economy rate of 8.53 so far.
