3 dead in boat crash at Alabama fishing tournament
Three people died in a boat crash on an Alabama lake during a fishing tournament Wednesday morning, officials said.
The crash between two vessels on Lewis Smith Lake happened at 7:03 a.m. when a Nitro Bass Boat struck a Center Console boat, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.
The accident occurred on the second day of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational, Major League Fishing said in a statement.
'Our thoughts, prayers and deepest concern are with everyone affected by this tragic incident,' Major League Fishing said.
The dead were identified as Joey M. Broom, 58; John K. Clark, 44; and Jeffrey C. Little, 62, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said.
All three were on the Center Console boat, the agency said. Clark and Little were thrown overboard and drowned, it said, while Broom died of injuries in the crash.
'Troopers with ALEA's Marine Patrol Division are still actively investigating this incident,' the agency said.
The third and final day of the tournament has been canceled, Major League Fishing said.
'This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire organization,' Kathy Fennel, the MLF's executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

ALEA said the texts threaten to suspend a person's driver's privileges for 30 days and suspend their vehicle registration unless recipients click a malicious link or provide personal information. 'Additionally, license plate issuance is handledthrough local county probate offices.' 2 men killed in northwest Alabama crash
MARION COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two men were killed in a crash on I-22 in Marion County on Sunday evening, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Sean Miller, 26, and Adam Silva, 21, were fatally injured when the Chevrolet Tahoe that Miller was driving departed the roadway and overturned. The men, who were from Winfield, were reportedly not wearing their seat belts. 'Help Ronnie's kids find joy amidst tragedy,' James Andrews said. Ronald Leslie Dumas Jr., 37, was last seen on Dec. 15, 2024. A missing persons report was filed on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, and he was placed on the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Missing Persons List as a missing adult on Dec. 23. The Huntsville Police Department and ALEA upgraded the missing adult alert for Dumas to a missing and endangered person alert on Feb. 7, saying he 'is believed to have been abducted and in danger of bodily harm or death.' Andrews, the family's private investigator, has now created a GoFundMe to support Dumas' kids as they head into the summer months. 'Ronnie is a dedicated father who loves his children, and he was involved in every aspect of their lives right up until the moment he was taken away from them,' the GoFundMe reads. Kai is 12, Lindsi is 6 and Ryili is 4. 'Kai turns 13 on June 11th, and he wants to celebrate at the Lego store. Kai, Lindsi, and Ryili would all like to go to summer camp this year, and from personal experience, I know how beneficial that would be for them! Summer camp alone for the 3 kids will be a few thousand dollars, but it will be worth every penny to bring these children some joy and moments of peace,' Andrews wrote.
