Summer 2025 Travel: Indians Seek Cooler Climes, Curated Escapes And True Value
Last Updated:
This summer, Indian travellers are trading routine getaways for immersive, personalized journeys that promise comfort, culture, and adventure.
As temperatures soar across India, the summer of 2025 is revealing a new chapter in the nation's travel story. Far from simply fleeing the heat, Indian travelers are crafting journeys that blend adventure, heritage, comfort, and value—reshaping the landscape for hospitality providers and travel companies alike.
The Allure of Hills, Heritage, and Hidden Retreats
Hill stations remain the undisputed champions of Indian summer travel, but the motivations behind these trips are changing. Jayant Singh, Managing Partner, Treehouse Hotels and Resorts, observes, 'Indian travellers are increasingly seeking meaningful escapes from the heat, with hill destinations like Himachal Pradesh becoming top choices for families and professionals." Singh notes a trend toward longer, comfort-driven stays in resorts and boutique hotels, with guests gravitating toward properties that offer space, nature, and personalized experiences.
Treehouse Chail Villas, for example, has seen a surge in interest for guided treks and visits to an ancient Shiv temple, while their riverside resort in Narmadapuram is attracting guests eager to explore the nearby UNESCO-listed Bhimbetka caves. Singh points out that even Goa—typically associated with winter tourism—is now drawing summer crowds who are 'transforming our coastal resorts into lush, scenic hideaways perfect for relaxed getaways" during the monsoon.

Flexibility and Personalization Take Center Stage
The desire for flexibility is now front and center in travel planning. Singh emphasizes, 'Flexible booking choices, like easy rescheduling, free cancellations, and refundable packages, are now essential when making decisions." Travelers want the assurance that their money and experience will be safeguarded if plans change.
Personalization, too, is in high demand. Singh explains, 'Our guests no longer want one-size-fits-all vacations. Instead, they seek experiences tailored to their unique interests and preferences." Whether it's an adventure-filled trek around the beautiful Chail Villas, a spiritual journey to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, or a culinary class with local chefs, Singh's team is focused on creating 'meaningful experiences ensuring every trip feels unique, immersive, and memorable." He adds that the goal is to provide 'clean, comfortable, and safe accommodations at affordable prices, where quality truly meets value."
Southern Cool and International Aspirations
The search for cool escapes isn't limited to the north. Malini Gowrishankar, Founder of F5 Escapes, has noticed a shift in traveler preferences, 'Indian travelers typically favor the high mountains but recent political uncertainties have increased interest in cooler South Indian destinations like Kodaikanal, Ooty, Mudumalai, Coorg, and Chikmagalur."
Gowrishankar also notes a growing appetite for international destinations that offer relief from the heat without the price tag of Europe. 'The Caucasus region—Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan—and Bhutan are gaining popularity due to their perceived exotic nature and more affordable prices, as well as their cooler climates," she explains.
When it comes to expectations, Gowrishankar says, 'The topmost expectation in the minds of Indian travellers is value for the money spent." Travelers are asking detailed questions, doing their own research, and increasingly appreciating the service layer that companies like F5 Escapes provide. 'They love the fact that they can delegate the hassle of trip planning and execution," she adds, highlighting the importance of safety and detailed, research-backed itineraries.
The Rise of Bespoke and Last-Minute Travel
International aspirations are also on the rise, with customization emerging as a defining trend. Bharat Seth, Co-founder, OneLatitude, observes, 'Domestically, Indians—as each year—are looking to travel to cooler destinations in Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Kashmir," with Spiti, Kashmir, and Ladakh remaining perennial favorites. Internationally, Seth notes, 'There is an uptake of places like Georgia, Bhutan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, which have easy visa processes or are visa-free." He also points to a growing interest in South American destinations such as Bolivia, Peru, and the Galapagos, as well as African countries like Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Simran, co-founder, OneLatitude, highlights the increasing demand for customized and last-minute travel arrangements. 'Many travellers are looking to book last-minute getaways for the summer, so there are requests pouring in for quick turnarounds and customised plans," she says. Simran welcomes this change, explaining, 'We are seeing a lot more people requesting really curated programs—which for us is an amazing change, as that's what we specialise in as a bespoke travel company. One size does not fit all in travel, and guests are recognising that." Even within large family groups, she notes, there is a desire for itineraries that cater to individual preferences.

Top 7 Secret Clifftop Views For Stargazing Await You Near Kochi
Located in Kerala's Indian state Kochi exists as a coastal metropolis known for both its natural backwaters and traditional forts and its picturesque green landscapes. Under the active city atmosphere of Kochi exists a little-known gem consisting of tranquil beachfront positions that enable visitors to observe the starry night sky. The locations provide optimal conditions to observe the night sky since they contain little light pollution while providing amazing vistas. The city of Kochi contains seven secluded promontory viewpoints where both stargazers and star enthusiasts can experience memorable cosmic observations. 1. Vypin Island's Quiet Beaches The calm beaches of Cherai Beach and Kuzhupilly Beach make Vypin Island offshore in Kochi famous among tourists. These beaches maintain their peaceful state during the evening hours following daytime tourist crowds. You can find outstanding stargazing locations at these cliffs which overlook the Arabian Sea because they offer uninterrupted views toward the horizon. When nights are completely clear you will easily see both Orion and Scorpius among the celestial forms. Your cosmic adventure receives a calming musical ambiance from the waves that play in the distance. 2. Pallipuram Fort Area At the northernmost end of Vypeen Island stands the oldest European fort in India known as Pallipuram Fort. The historic site enjoys an area with minor light pollution which creates breathtaking views of ocean waters combined with celestial skies. Effective visibility of the Milky Way extends across the night sky during December through March when you reach elevated sections near the fort. The site provides a perfect union between historical and natural elements and celestial observation opportunities. 3. Mulavukad Bridge Overlook The Mulavukad Bridge serves Ernakulam district by linking different areas from an elevated position above watercourses. The tall structure of the bridge serves as an interesting vantage point to view night skies although it does not match the traditional definition of cliff. The eastern sky presents itself without obstruction to spectators who watch the moon rise over the backwaters from this location. The cliff stands near central Kochi areas so people can easily reach it while visiting at night. 4. Edakochi Cliffside The southern part of Kochi features Edakochi which combines peaceful residential neighborhoods with small ocean-view cliffs spread across its territory. Distance from urban luminosity creates ideal circumstances for people who want to observe space at these unknown locations. The population of local residents who visit this area for evening relaxation leaves it empty for those who want peace next to the stars. The use of binoculars allows space enthusiasts to identify planets including Jupiter and Saturn. 5. Anchuthengu Lighthouse Vicinity Anchuthengu stands two hours south of Kochi with its British-built 19th-century lighthouse situated in this coastal location. The lighthouse location benefits from elevated terrain that makes it perfect to observe the stars. The absence of major urban center light pollution creates optimal conditions for observing an endless number of stars as well as sporadic meteor showers across the dark sky. During the annual period spanning July to December lucky observers can see the Perseids and Geminids meteor showers. 6. Cheranalloor Hills Locals can discover Cheranalloor Hills which hide within Kochi's outer boundaries to create an escape from city disturbance. The hills tower over their surroundings allowing observers to see the entire night sky. The cold winter air of this area coexists perfectly with the clear atmospheric conditions to create excellent visibility. The area is popular among locals for day-time activities such as picnics and hikes yet specific star-gazing trips happen at night for privacy. Stargazers must remember star charts alongside smartphone apps when trying to locate constellations alongside deep-sky objects. 7. Thrikkakara Elevated Grounds The temple destination for Lord Vamana at Thrikkakara extends its skyline with high elevation areas that create perfect spaces for star observation. The religious importance of this area in Kochi results in less artificial light that maintains necessary natural darkness helpful for viewing space. Select a flat space with a blanket and the peaceful environment to experience the cosmic wonders of space. Groups along with families highly appreciate this site for its secure and breathtaking activities. Conclusion Although Kochi mainly offers cultural heritage and pleasant coastline views themadığıjigje padukal serve as undocumented sites which could become astronomical observatories for stargazing enthusiasts. The cosmic experience awaits visitors who explore the peaceful Vypin Island shoreline while touring the historical Pallipuram Fort observation point. The adventure into uncharted territory outside the city allows visitors to see stars rather than streetlights and build everlasting memories beneath an endless cosmic expanse. You can explore the choicest cliff top stargazing spots near Kochi City by bringing your telescope along with a friend.

‘We've lost billions chasing stakes, we won't repeat that ': Etihad CEO reveals new India game plan
Etihad Airways CEO Antonoaldo Neves tells The Economic Times why the airline has no plans to invest in Indian carriers, calling past equity bets 'unsustainable.' Speaking on the sidelines of the IATA AGM with ET's Arindam Majumder and Forum Gandhi in New Delhi, Neves said India remains a key market. Still, Gulf carriers, including Etihad, have maximised their flying rights. He calls on the Indian government to open more traffic rights, allowing Etihad to expand from 11 to as many as 20 Indian cities. Neves also revealed Etihad's current focus on partnerships over ownership and hinted at growth potential in underserved Indian markets, provided regulatory bottlenecks are eased.
