Man arrested after showing up at Memphis mayor's house with Taser, duct tape and rope in car, police say

Memphis police have arrested a man and charged him with attempted kidnapping, saying he repeatedly visited the gated community where the Democratic mayor lives, before scaling a wall and knocking on the door of his home while armed with a Taser.
The man admitted to police that he was angry with Mayor Paul Young about crime in the city, according to authorities.
Trenton Abston, 25, was booked Wednesday and has also been charged with aggravated criminal trespass and stalking. When arrested, police say he was wearing gloves, and in addition to the Taser, had a roll of duct tape and rope in his car.
Abston's arrest in Tennessee comes just days after the murders of a state lawmaker and her husband at their home in Minnesota and the wounding of another and his wife at their residence.
The first report of a suspicious person in the neighborhood was received at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday night from the homeowners' association president.
After scaling the community's wall, Abston went straight to the home of the Young family, police said.
Young heard a knock on his door and saw Abston on his Ring doorbell video, clearly capturing an image of his face, police say. The man was dressed in a hoodie and had a visible bulge in his pocket.
Fearing for the safety of his family, Young did not answer the door, and the man quickly fled the scene, according to a police affidavit.
The mayor posted a statement on X, highlighting that the alarming incident came just a day after the tragic events in Minnesota.
'We've just learned that the individual responsible for Sunday night's incident has been apprehended and charged by MPD,' wrote Young. 'On Sunday night, around 9:30 pm, a man jumped a wall leading into our subdivision. We now know that he walked straight to our home.'
He continued: 'He knocked on the door with gloves on, a full pocket, and a nervous demeanor. In today's climate, especially after the tragic events in Minnesota and the threats my wife and I often receive online, none of us can be too careful.'
Vance Boelter, 57, suspected of the deadly shooting of Minnesota Democratic state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and the wounding of Democratic state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, has been charged with state and federal crimes.
A two-day manhunt for Boelter, described as the largest in the state's history, ended with his arrest late on Sunday, coincidentally in the hours after Abston is accused of approaching Mayor Young's house in Memphis.
Authorities discovered 'voluminous' written material in Boelter's car and home, including plans, lists of names, and surveillance research targeting elected officials.
In his statement on X, Memphis Mayor Young continued: 'The angry rhetoric, the hateful speech, and the heated threats create a culture where violence feels like a next step instead of a red line. We cannot allow that line to be crossed. Political violence and intimidation – whether threatened or enacted – simply cannot become our norm.'
In a message to his constituents, Young added: 'Memphis, we have to change how we talk to and about each other. Disagreement must never lead to violence. That cannot be our norm. Let's do better. Let's raise our discourse, reduce the hate, and protect one another — no matter our beliefs.'

Disturbing new images from Diddy's home show cache of guns, bullets, and mountains of baby oil

More photos of damning evidence against Sean ' Diddy ' Combs came to light on Thursday, including a collection of high-powered rifles, drugs and hundreds of bottles of baby oil. The trove of photos were released by federal prosecutors as the trial at Manhattan federal court was stalled due to the Juneteenth holiday. The items were collected by Homeland Security officials during the March 2024 raid at the disgraced Bad Boy mogul's mansion in the exclusive Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. Investigators also found bags containing ketamine, which were also photographed as evidence. Last week, Homeland Security Investigations agent Andre Lamon testified he saw an overwhelming amount of both baby oil and lubricant when he and other agents searched the mansion. The pictures show bottles of baby oil neatly lined in display cabinets, while dozen of boxes of the lubricant were also found stacked in the home. Lamon testified he found 900 bottles of Astroglide and 200 bottles of baby oil at Combs' LA home. Investigators also found bags containing ketamine, which were also photographed as evidence. Combs has pleaded not guilty to charges that he coerced and abused women for years, aided by associates and employees Federal prosecutors allege the drugs were used in marathon 'freak offs' Combs, his ex-girlfriends and male escorts participated in. Defense Attorney Marc Agnifilo has said the star likes to 'buy in bulk like any other American' and claimed Combs participated in consensual sex. One of the pictures showed a cache of weapons, including AR-15 style rifles and pump shotguns, next to a bag of tortilla chips. Combs' has since placed his LA mansion up for sale at $61.5 million. The 17,000-square-foot home that boasts 10 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms is still listed for sale as of Thursday. Authorities also executed search warrants at Comb's Miami mansion on the exclusive Star Island the same day. Armed agents entered luxury properties on both East and West coasts, with video footage showing helicopters circling overhead. This week, jurors also viewed several video recordings of the alleged freak offs with male escorts. Combs also was allowed to view the video evidence, but the public were not. The Bad Boy founder was seen licking his lips after watching the freak off videos from a side room of the courtroom. Damien Williams, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, alleged Diddy used 'embarrassing and sensitive recordings' he made of the freak offs 'as collateral' against the victims. 'He maintained control over the victims in several ways, including by giving them drugs, by giving and threatening to take away financial support or housing, by promising them career opportunities, by monitoring their whereabouts and even by dictating their physical appearance,' Williams said during a September 2024 press conference. Combs faces decades in prison and has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty on all counts. Combs' former girlfriend, who has testified under the pseudonym 'Jane', also testified about the hip hop mogul's obsession with 'cuckold' scenarios. She said the role playing may have been a way for Combs to live out his bisexual fantasies without physically engaging with men — because he was 'too ashamed' to do so openly. Jane said the freak offs she attended during their relationship as filled with extravagant sexual role play where participants gave each other nicknames inspired by legendary basketball stars. Combs allegedly casted himself as Michael Jordan, his ex-girlfriend as Kobe Bryant and a male escort Jane regularly slept with as Shaquille O'Neal. The trial will resume on Friday.

'Deranged' protester runs GOP congressman off the road while chanting 'death to Israel'

A Republican congressman has claimed he was run off the road by an 'unhinged, deranged man' who displayed a Palestinian flag and chanted 'death to Israel.' Rep. Max Miller, of Ohio, took to social media on Thursday to share how he was attacked by an anti-Israeli protester while on his way to work in his district. 'As I was driving to work, some unhinged, deranged man decided to lay on his horn and run me off the road when he couldn't get my attention to show me a Palestinian flag,' said Miller, who previously worked as a White House aide in President Donald Trump 's first administration and now represents northeastern Ohio. 'Not to mention, "Death to Israel," death to me - that he wanted to kill me and my family,' Miller continued, speaking from inside his car. 'Thank God my daughter was not in my vehicle or anybody else at the time.' The Jewish congressman went on to say he had filed a report with the local police department and with the US Capitol Police. Rocky River Police Department has since confirmed to Fox News that it is investigating the incident. But Miller said in his video he already knows who the perpetrator was, and told the suspect that if he has 'an issue, take it to our office. 'You want to run me off the road, that's a different story,' Miller asserted. Despite the encounter, Miller - who also served as a reservist in the US Marines - said he remains undeterred. 'I will continue to fight against antisemitism, Islamophobia and all other forms of hate,' he declared. The congressman also added in an accompanying X post that: 'As a Marine, a proud Jewish American and a staunch defender of Israel, I will not hide in the face of this blatant antisemitic violence.' In a follow-up post, he thanked the local police departments in his district and the US Capitol Police for their assistance. 'A police report has been filed and when I am able to share the finalized report, I will do so immediately,' Miller vowed, adding: 'Hate has no home here in OH-7.' House Democratic leadership was quick to denounce the attack on Miller's vehicle. 'We condemn in the strongest possible terms the attack on Congressman Max Miller and his family, and are thankful they are safe,' Reps. Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar said in a statement. 'The rise in political violence in this country is unacceptable,' they continued, weeks after two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers were shot inside their homes. 'This is a moment of crisis that requires Congress to act decisively in order to ensure the safety of every single Member who serves in the People's House.'
