Limestone puts on ‘the greatest show' as they prepare to help a local non-profit
BARTONVILLE, Ill. (WMBD) — Limestone Community High School held its 2025 opening assembly to announce the kickoff of its annual fundraising event to raise money for Easterseals.
Easterseals is a local nonprofit dedicating its services to helping kids with developmental delays, disabilities, or other special needs.
This is the 49th annual fundraising event for the school, and Senior Student Council President Victoria Bartolo said she is most excited to try and break last year's fundraising record.
'Most importantly, I really want to break the record this year again. We raised $90,000 last year and our goal this year is $100,000,' she said.
Each year they pick a new theme which is used to motivate and inspire and give them direction. The theme for this year's event is the 'Greatest Showman' because the movie shows it is okay to be unique, and you should be proud of who you are no matter what Bartolo said.

The event also recognized the Unified Basketball team. Unified is a way for students with disabilities to participate on the same physical education teams as students who don't have disabilities.
While this event is important for many, Senior Student Council Vice President Sebastien Meyer says it's special to him as he has family members who have been a part of the Easterseals program.
'I've actually had two family members go through Easterseals, so I've had that direct connection with it. It helps so many people and so many families that I don't know what we would do without an organization like this,' he said.
For the next several weeks, Limestone will be hosting a slew of events that are put on as a way to help raise more money.
Bartolo said she really enjoys the 'Rocket man' event they are holding this year, which is a male beauty pageant.
Meyer said he is really looking forward to the White Out basketball game and auction, which are on the same night.
The basketball game this year is on Feb. 8 and is against Metamora which he says also does stuff with Easterseals, so he enjoys seeing the two communities as well as Easterseals come together.
The student council worked hard to prepare for the event, Bartolo said they stayed at the school until past 9 p.m. to set up. Stacey Seals who is a PE teacher as well as the Student Council Advisor at Limestone gives all the credit to the students.
'It's a lot, but we are blessed with about 30 of the best kids in the area I would put them up against anyone hands down,' she said. 'They put in so much work, they contact local businesses, they go and speak to local businesses… they organize all these events.'
The events run from Feb 4, until the closing ceremony which is held on Feb. 25, where they will announce how much money has been raised.

Sutton Foster beamed from ear to ear as she hit the red carpet solo at the 69th Annual Drama Desk Awards on Sunday. The Broadway star, 50, dodged all questions relating to her new flame Hugh Jackman — just days after his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness broke her silence on their split, seemingly alluding to Jackman's alleged affair with Foster. Despite Furness' remark, Foster appeared in good spirits at the glitzy event, where she was nominated for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical. 5 Sutton Foster beamed from ear to ear as she hit the red carpet solo at the 69th Annual Drama Desk Awards on Sunday. When is Penn State football's 2025 White Out game? Opponent, date announced
Penn State has announced its White Out for the 2025 season and it will be in the team's biggest home game of the season. The Nittany Lions have made their Sept. 27 game against the Oregon Ducks this year's White Out, with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on NBC. The program hasn't had the annual tradition against a top-10 opponent since 2018 when it played No. 4 Ohio State. The program has dealt with issues with kickoff times that stemmed from broadcast network selections. That has pushed it to being a 3:30 p.m. or night game kick against less-vaunted opponents. The Nittany Lions have gone 5-0 in White Out games since that matchup with the Buckeyes in 2018, which was a 27-26 loss in one of the best games of that college football season. The Nittany Lions and Ducks are both likely to be undefeated and ranked in the top-10 for the game, barring any upsets early in the season. And there's a strong likelihood that they'll both be in the top five of the AP top 25 poll if each takes care of business in the beginning of September. Penn State also announced the kickoff times for its first three games — all of which are also at home. The Nittany Lions will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 30 against Nevada in a game that will air on CBS, at noon on Sept. 6 against FIU on Big Ten Network, and at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 against Villanova on FS1.

Hugh Jackman's Longtime Friend Says 'He's Moving on with His Life' amid Deborra-Lee Furness' 'Betrayal' Statement
Hugh Jackman's childhood friend shared an update on how the actor is doing amid his divorce from ex Deborra-Lee Furness on Thursday, May 29 Gus Worland, whom Jackman has known since their school days in the 1970s, was asked about Furness' recent public comments about "betrayal" in their marriage during an appearance on a radio show in Australia "It's not just that statement, but just the last couple of years have been difficult," Worland said, later adding that Jackman is "moving on with his life"Hugh Jackman's childhood friend is opening up about the actor's divorce following his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness' recent comments about "betrayal" in their marriage. While speaking on the Thursday, May 29 episode of Australia's Ben Fordham Live breakfast radio show, Gus Worland — who said he'd known Jackman, 56, since kindergarten in 1973 — was asked about Furness' statement, in which she reflected on the "breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage" and navigating the "traumatic journey of betrayal." The comments came after Furness filed for divorce on May 23, nearly two years after she and Jackman announced a seemingly amicable separation. TV and radio personality Worland said, 'It's not just that statement, but just the last couple of years have been difficult." 'No one wants anyone to go through what they've been through, and, of course, they go through everything publicly because of the type of people and the fame that they have,' he added. Worland continued, 'One thing that I've been really strict on, or disciplined on ... is to let them do what they've had to do. I was over in New York with [Jackman] just last month and he's fine. He is going along well. He's moving on with his life and I hope that Deb does as well.' He added that he and Jackman were godparents to each other's first children. The Greatest Showman actor and Furness, 69, share two kids together: Oscar, 25, and Ava, 19. Worland, who said it was "a long, long time" that the couple were together, continued on the radio show, 'I just go to the kids and go, 'What can we do to make sure that they're going to get through this as well as possible?' ' Jackman and Furness wed in 1996 before announcing their separation in September 2023 after 27 years of marriage. In the statement provided to PEOPLE and first shared with the Daily Mail on Tuesday, May 27, Furness called their breakup 'a profound wound that cuts deep.' 'However, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us,' Furness said. 'This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage.' According to the producer and philanthropist, the process has helped her as she 'gained much knowledge and wisdom.' 'Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom,' she said. Furness shared that the 'one thing' she's learned is 'that none of this is personal.' 'We are all on our individual journeys and I believe that the relationships in our lives are not random. We are drawn to people, we invite them in, in order to learn our lessons and to recognize and heal the broken parts of ourselves... I remain grateful,' she concluded.
