Scotland learn Euro 2028 qualification requirements

The National21-05-2025

The tournament which takes place in three years' time will be jointly hosted by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Ordinarily, host nations are automatically placed into the tournament with no need to qualify, but that happens when there is one or two host nations so the fact there is four complicates matters.
The governing body were yet to confirm how this would work but they have done so today.

Each of the four teams will take place in the qualifying stages but there will be two places reserved for the best ranked home nations who don't qualify.
Making it to the finals will be the 12 group winners as well as the eight best performing second place teams, plus the two extra home nations. The remaining spots are decided by play-offs between the remaining runners up and best ranked Nations League teams who haven't automatically qualified.
Steve Clarke's side have friendlies next month against Iceland and Liechtenstein before 2026 World Cup qualifying kicks off with a trip to Denmark and a home game against Belarus.

The Republic of Ireland legend accused the Three Lions of "looking bored" in Barcelona on Saturday. 3 Roy Keane laid into England's 'poor' attitude in their limp 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Andorra 3 Thomas Tuchel was also left concerned by England's efforts England made it three wins out of three for Thomas Tuchel, who hasn't conceded a goal yet, but their performance left a lot to be desired. After a dreary first half, which saw England booed off, Harry Kane found a breakthrough by tapping in Noni Madueke's cross. That ended up as the only goal in the entire 93 minutes as Tuchel's players were accused of playing "walking football" by Keane's ITV co-panellist Karen Carney against the minnows. Keane, 53, was also critical of Kane's post-match assessment which included the captain saying, "We take the points and move on." "You should be setting your standards higher than that. You should be saying they should have scored three or four more. "We defend the players, say it's the end of the season and talk about the hot conditions, and Kane looked shattered. "I worry when I see players getting bored. It's Andorra - go and get some more goals! Tuchel has since seemingly agreed, saying that England "played with fire". Andorra v England match played in near empty stadium The German boss said: "I didn't like the attitude how we ended the game, not the whole game, it's a big difference. "I liked the attitude in the first 25 minutes, but I didn't like the last half an hour. We lacked the seriousness and urgency needed in a World Cup qualifier. "We played with fire and I didn't like the attitude at the end. I didn't like the body language, and I don't think it's what the occasion needed." Tuchel also told Three Lions fans their vile chants about Prime Minister Keir Starmer were "not acceptable." Some of the travelling supporters called Starmer a "c**t", "w**ker" and "nonce", as well as singing "no surrender" during the national anthem in a reference to the IRA. The RCDE stadium, home of Spanish side Espanyol, looked noticeably empty during the match. Sparse pockets of fans spread across the stands in Barcelona with just shy of 7,000 tickets sold to England fans for the match inside the 40,000-seat stadium.

Inside Russell Martin's first day as Rangers boss as manager gets V.I.P treatment with tour of Ibrox and Edmiston House

Rangers finally got their man to replace Philippe Clement permanently last week with the appointment of ex-Southampton boss and Scotland international, Russell Martin. In the end, it came down to two; Russell Martin and Davide Ancelotti, and it was the former Gers defender that won the race. In a behind-the-scenes video posted by Rangers, Martin said: "It's been a long, long few weeks, it's been interesting, but it's been good. "It's brilliant to be back, I love the city and I love the people." Despite his short spell at the Ibrox club, Martin said: "I was desperate to come back at some point." He also admitted that the Rangers job was the job he was desperate for, despite interest from elsewhere. It looked at one point like he was set to join newly-relegated Leicester City, but that didn't amount to anything in the end. Martin arrived at Ibrox and immediately met CEO Patrick Stewart and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell. It was straight down to media duties for the new Ibrox boss, as he changed into his suit and was straight in front of the cameras. Reminiscing on his loan-spell at the club, he was surprised by one tweak in the dressing room, exclaiming: "There's cushions now, it was just benches when I was here!" Rangers fans react to news Russell Martin is their new manager He teased the Ibrox faithful as he caught his first glance of Rangers' away strip, saying "That's the away kit? Very nice. "Kids are going to go mad for that one!" The new Gers boss met the media, and then went straight for a tour of Edmiston House, saying the club have "done brilliantly" with the club museum. Martin is set for a busy start to life as Rangers boss, navigating what is set to be a busy transfer window. He will have a tough task keeping midfield duo Mohamed Diomande and Nicolas Raskin with the Light Blues as interest in the pair grows. He is also under pressure to strengthen the squad as the Gers aim for some silverware. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
