Ben Shelton gives the U.S. 3 men in the ATP top 10 for the first time since 2006
LONDON — Ben Shelton rose two spots to No. 10 in the ATP rankings, joining No. 4 Taylor Fritz and No. 8 Tommy Paul to give the United States three men in the top 10 for the first time in nearly 20 years.
In April 2006, Andy Roddick was No. 4, James Blake was No. 7, and Andre Agassi was No. 10.
There are four American women in the WTA's top 10 again, and five in the top 13: No. 2 Coco Gauff, No. 3 Jessica Pegula, No. 6 Madison Keys, No. 9 Emma Navarro and No. 13 Amanda Anisimova.
Aryna Sabalenka remains at No. 1, a spot she took over in October from Iga Swiatek, who dropped to No. 8.
Tatjana Maria, a 37-year-old German, rose 43 spots to No. 43 by winning the Queen's Club title as a qualifier.
The 22-year-old Shelton, who won the 2022 NCAA singles title for the University of Florida, only is in his third full season on tour. He'd never traveled out of the U.S. until 2023.
Shelton is a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist, making it that far at the U.S. Open in 2023 and the Australian Open this January.
Fritz moved up three spots to match his career high after winning a grass-court title at Stuttgart, Germany. The top three men remained the same: No. 1 Jannik Sinner, No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 3 Alexander Zverev, the runner-up to Fritz in Stuttgart.

Chelsea win Club World Cup opener against LAFC in front of empty seats
Pedro Neto and Enzo Fernandez were on target as Chelsea started their Club World Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over LAFC in front of a stadium which was less than a third full in Atlanta. The players walked out at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which holds a capacity of 71,000, with only 22,137 fans in attendance and the entire upper tier of the arena was completely vacant. Chelsea almost doubled their advantage after the interval, Neto's teasing cross found Jackson who headed on target but Timothy Tillman proved to be the saviour on the line to keep the deficit at one. New signing Delap was introduced for his Chelsea debut in the 63rd minute and instantly made an impact. He almost made a second with his dazzling footwork on the byline but his pass into the box was snuffed out. Chelsea continued to probe in search of a two-goal cushion and they found it in the 79th minute – Delap got the assist as he hung a ball into the middle of the box and Fernandez was waiting to tap home.

Before the Rangers were born, Abel already had made a name for himself as an amateur. Taffy was an American Olympic hero decades before Uncle Sam's Gold Medal winners of 1980. Tiafoe upset by local wild card at Queen's Club
LONDON (AP) — British wild card Dan Evans upset world No. 13 Frances Tiafoe 7-5, 6-2 on Monday for his first win at Queen's Club since 2021. Backhand slices and quick net reflexes underpinned No. 199 Evans' second ever top-20 win on grass. The first was at 2019 Wimbledon. 'I still believed I've got that tennis in me and I still believe I can do good things inside the top 100. But believing it and it happening is a lot different,' Evans said.
