Samsung has announced a mutual agreement to enhance wages and benefits, in line with the demands of workers, after the final round of wage negotiations between the Samsung India management and the CITU-backed Samsung India Workers' Union (SIWU) took place on Monday."We have constructively engaged with all our workers at the Chennai plant and are delighted to announce a mutual agreement to enhance wages and benefits for the next three years," a Samsung India spokesperson said in a statement.The talks on Monday have been part of a series of discussions held between the union and the management over several demands, including wage revision and workplace concerns."After sustained dialogue and responsible discussions from all sides, all differences pertaining to the Samsung unit have been settled amicably," Tamil Nadu industries minister TRB Rajaa said in a post on X (formerly Twitter). Govt approves Rs 23 cr for road projects in city, Muzaffarpur
Patna: The state govt approved infrastructure projects worth Rs 23 crore to enhance road connectivity in Patna and Muzaffarpur districts, said road construction minister Nitin Nabin on Friday. In Patna, Rs 6.67 crore was allocated for the widening and strengthening of roads connecting Kankarbagh road no. 2 to Kankarbagh road no. 4 via Kendriya Vidyalaya. The project aims to ease traffic congestion in Kankarbagh, one of city's most densely populated areas. The development will improve accessibility for local residents and commuters, Nabin said. The larger share of the fund, Rs 16.40 crore, was earmarked for Muzaffarpur, for the development of the stretch from Madipur Power House Chowk to Sakri Path. This project is expected to provide an alternative route for travellers between Muzaffarpur and Patna, helping to reduce traffic congestion and improve overall connectivity. "These infrastructure developments are part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the state's road network," the minister said. He emphasised that the projects align with CM Nitish Kumar's vision of ensuring smooth transportation facilities for Bihar residents. "The approved works include road rehabilitation, widening and strengthening, which will be executed under the supervision of the road construction department (RCD)," he said. The minister added that similar development initiatives are being implemented across various districts of the state to enhance the state's transportation infrastructure. He added, "These projects are expected to be completed in a timely manner and will contribute significantly to the region's economic growth by improving logistics and transportation efficiency." RBI lowers qualifying asset criteria for NBFC-MFIs to 60% from 75%
The Reserve Bank of India ( RBI ) Friday lowered the minimum amount of eligible microfinance loans specialized lenders must hold on their books, allowing microfinance-NBFCs to further diversify their asset base. In a notification Friday, the central bank said qualifying assets (those meeting the definition of microfinance loans) of NBFC-MFIs must constitute a minimum of 60% of the total assets (netted off by intangible assets), on an ongoing basis. The earlier threshold was 75%. 'If an NBFC-MFI fails to maintain the qualifying assets as aforesaid for four consecutive quarters, it shall approach the Reserve Bank with a remediation plan for taking a view in the matter,' the RBI said. The central bank also said that 'qualifying assets' of NBFC-MFIs has been aligned with the definition of 'microfinance loans'. As per RBI rules, microfinance loan is defined as a collateral-free loan given to a household having annual household income up to Rs 3,00,000. 'This policy shift will enable accelerated diversification within our operations, ensuring balance sheet stability and positioning us for robust cross-cycle earnings,' said Ganesh Narayanan, Chief Executive Officer, CreditAccess Grameen Ltd . Reduction in the qualifying asset criteria for NBFC-MFIs is expected to improve loan diversification of lenders, thereby augmenting their credit risk profile . Surat DEO issues notices to schools for fee relief to children of diamond polishers
The Surat District Education Office (DEO) on Thursday issued notifications to all schools where children of diamond polishers study and shared a School Fees Special Assistance Application form along with a checklist of relevant documents for students and parents who are eligible for a fee relief. The state government has announced a special assistance package for people from the diamond industry, considering the recession over the last three years. Children of diamond polishers, who have been unemployed after March 2024 and are aged above 21 and have worked for at least three years at a diamond firm, will be eligible for this scheme. Surat district Education Officer Bhagirathsinh Parmar issued the notification after receiving the format from the state government. According to the format, the benefits of the scheme can be availed only for the 2025-26 session, the maximum amount of relief being Rs 13,500 per student. Diamond polisher parents should fill the School Fees Special Assistance Application form and submit it, along with necessary documents, including Aadhaar cards of both the applicant and the student, a passport-size photo of the parent, to the school between June 9 and July 23. The applicant should obtain a certificate of unemployment for a period of one year and a certificate of work experience for the previous three years from the District Employment Office, the District Industries Centre, or a request letter or certificate issued by the Surat Diamond Association. The school authorities would then submit the documents to the District Industries Centre in three phases — on June 30, July 7, and July 24. The school authorities should also attach a forwarding letter, along with a list of students, a cancelled cheque from the school, and fees in accordance with the Fee Regulatory Committee (FRC). DEO Parmar said, 'We have issued the notification to all primary, secondary and higher secondary grant-in-aid, self-finance and government schools in the city. Diamond polishers mainly reside in Varachha, Kapodara, Punagam, Katargam, Sarthana, etc. Non-Gujarati polishers who match all the eligibility criteria can also fill such forms. We have strictly instructed all schools to complete the process with the given time frame. We are coordinating with the Surat Diamond Association, the Surat District Employment Office, and the District Industries Centre, and will make sure that diamond polishers should not face any problem in obtaining the necessary documents. If they do, they should contact us or any of these three offices, and their issue will be resolved.'
