He needed only two points to get there Sunday, after scoring 38 in Oklahoma City's Game 1 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Thursday. This is the 25th time in NBA history that a player has scored 3,000 points in a season. Michael Jordan did it 10 times, Wilt Chamberlain did it five and 10 other players — Bob McAdoo, Elgin Baylor, James Harden, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Luka Doncic, Rick Barry, Shaquille O'Neal and now Gilgeous-Alexander — have done it once. Star Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton is a better closer than Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum or Oklahoma City Thunder Most Valuable Player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Or at least that is the case that was made by Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti on a recent episode of their eponymous "Felger and Mazz" show on their sports radio channel "98.5 The Sports Hub." And given what we have seen from Haliburton with the Pacers so far in the 2025 NBA Playoffs, there is a case that Hali is indeed a better closer than Tatum or SGA.
