Welsh snooker star Mark Williams says he has "a big decision to make" over whether to undergo lens replacement surgery.
The 50-year-old is in the semi-finals of the Snooker World Championships and is currently level at 8-8 with Judd Trump heading into the final day of their last-four clash at the Crucible.
Williams revealed earlier this year that his "eyes had completely gone" and that his eyesight in general had deteriorated steadily over the last six months.
The cueist had been considering surgery to try to rectify the issue threatening his career but a conversation with a contemporary has put him off.
Williams said: "I have been reading up and talking to people who have had it done and I've got to be honest, it is putting me off a bit.
"I've got a big decision to make.

"A couple of people I have spoken to, especially Anthony Hamilton at length, have said it is no good under the lights and it has ruined his career.

"It has sort of put me under pressure.
"After this is finished, it is something I am going to have to look more into."
Williams has tried playing with contact lenses during matches but decided to go without them after talks with coach Lee Walker.
Should Williams overcome Trump in the semis he would face Zhao Xintong in the final after the Chinese star beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in the other last-four tie.
"I am in the semi-final of the biggest tournament we've got," Williams added. "I am still playing all right. What do you do? Do I keep playing blurry? I don't know."
Xintong was full of praise for his "idol" O'Sullivan following his win on Friday.
"I can't believe that. I need to say thank you to Ronnie because he has helped me a lot before. He's my idol," Xintong said after beating O'Sullivan.

"It's my first time playing on the single table here, it's an amazing time for me and I just want to enjoy it because I don't know how many times I can try to enjoy it here.
"I've played here and sometimes the crowd is helpful for Ronnie and he deserves that, he is a legend here so I needed to control myself."

Taine Basham eyes Wales recall after Dragons exit to Cardiff
The dynamic back rower has left Rodney Parade for the Arms Park after seven seasons, 109 appearances and 21 tries for the club. The 25-year-old from Talywain has previously been on the radar of English clubs but it is a desire to force his way back into the Test frame that led to a Cardiff switch. Basham, an explosive openside or number eight, won the last of his 17 caps off the bench against England in 2024 and is currently behind Jac Morgan and Tommy Reffell in the pecking order at 7 and Taulupe Faletau and Aaron Wainwright at 8. He hopes that a fresh club challenge can help him return to the form that saw him impress against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia in the 2021 autumn internationals. IMPRESSIVE: Taine Basham caught the eye for Wales against New Zealand in 2021 (Image: David Davies) 'My rise to international rugby was fairly quick and I haven't been in recent squads,' said Basham, who played at the 2023 World Cup. 'A new environment and set of peers will hopefully be good for me because I don't have the number of caps that I thought I would have by now. 'I've seen a lot of people who have stayed at the Dragons for all of their career but I felt that I needed something different and a change of scene. 'I'm going to focus on getting back to the form of 2021 when I played well against the southern hemisphere teams because I am desperate to get back in that Welsh set-up.' Basham signed a one-year contract extension in April 2024 after interest from Saracens, yet it wasn't just Wales ambitions that led to the Cardiff switch. The back rower might not be available to experience some good-natured jibes from the terrace when the Blue and Blacks look to extend their 19-game winning streak over the Dragons on Friday, October 17. SWITCH: Taine Basham has left the Dragons for Cardiff (Image: Gareth Everett) 'It was the game that I looked for first when the fixture list came out but we are expecting another baby boy around mid-October,' said Basham, who has a three-year-old son Tomas with his partner Giovanna. 'Whatever happens, happens. We've got the derby at the Arms Park that I will hopefully be involved in and I just look forward to a very 'warm welcome' whenever I do make the return to Rodney Parade!' Basham consistently caught the eye after being given his Dragons debut under Bernard Jackman at the Scarlets in January, 2018. He is one of just seven players to have scored a hat-trick for the club – in a superb display against Castres in 2019 as Wales coach Wayne Pivac watched on – and Jason Forster is the only back rower to have crossed more times. 'I was at the Dragons since I was 14 and made some really good connections and friendships,' said Basham. 'I've got so many fond memories and all of the staff have been so good to me all the way through, especially James Chapron, who was my academy manager. I've met so many good people and will stay in touch. 'I was at the Dragons for seven seasons and a big target was to get my name on the board in the Bisley Room for 100 appearances. I'm proud to have done that.'

Callum Osmand can be Celtic punisher as Marco Silva gives Brendan Rodgers the key to unlock potential
Osmand is set to join the Premiership champions from Fulham as the Hoops take advantage of cross border transfers yet again Marco Silva has told Celtic how to get the best out of incoming new signing Callum Osmand. The Fulham starlet is set to follow in Moussa Dembele 's footsteps and make the move from Craven Cottage to Parkhead as the Premiership champions once again take advantage of cross border transfers for Under 21 payers. They will land the 19-year-old for training compensation and the Welsh youth international is understood to have already completed his Hoops medical. Cottagers boss Marco Silva rates Osmand highly, and promoted him to train with the first team and take his place on the bench towards the end of last season, although he wasn't given an English Premier League run out. And if the Portuguese's comments on Osmand are anything to go by, he will be disappointed to lose him, although the reason for leaving is exactly what Silva said the youngster needed after bringing him into the top team fold at Fulham. And he reckons a strike partner will allow Brendan Rodgers to see Osmand at his full potential further down the line. 'It's not his first time he's been with us," said Silva towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign. "Last season, he had some sessions with us, pre-season too, and the beginning of the season. "He is much more mobile [than a traditional centre forward], let's see if he is going to have a chance or not to play some minutes, but he is going to have a chance to train much more with us, to be much more involved with the first team. 'He needs more senior football in his legs to see how he can adapt, perform. He's got the profile that I like. When he has a chance, he can punish the opposition. "I can see the talent, in a position that is very difficult to play in the Premier League. Probably if you play another striker by his side … you will take the best from him. Let's hope we can help him to be ready for the Premier League.'

'I felt like...' - Iceland goalkeeper reveals what surprised him most about Scotland at Hampden

Goalkeeper Cieran Slicker will want to start for Scotland against Liechtenstein on Monday after his nightmare debut in the 3-1 friendly defeat to Iceland at Hampden on Friday night, according to to his opposite number Elias Rafn Olafsson. The 22-year-old debutant was thrown into the action after just six minutes at the national stadium when goalkeeper Angus Gunn appeared to injure his ankle when he came to collect a cross, while fellow stopper Robby McCrorie suffered a thigh injury in the warm-up. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad However, in the opposite goal, Olafsson was hailed as one of Iceland's top performers after making a series of excellent saves to deny George Hirst and, latterly John McGinn, as Scotland pushed to get back into the game, leading the FC Midtjylland man to admit the line between hero and villain is marginal when it comes to being a 'lonely' goalkeeper. Cieran Slicker had a nightmare debut for Scotland and was at fault for all three of Iceland's goals in the 3-1 defeat at Hampden. | Getty Images 'Of course, it's always tough,' said the Icelandic goalkeeper. 'Especially when you come into the game cold off the bench. Then when you come in and make some mistakes, it's hard to get back into the game. I feel empathy for him. It's not the preparation you want for your debut, to not know you're coming in this early in the game as well. It's difficult. It's not going to be the most fun of nights, but it's about keeping your head up. It's just about now going to the hotel, forget about this and move on.' Asked if he'd ever had a similar experience himself, the 25-year-old was quick to recall his own error in the Europa League clash against FCSB last November, where he gifted the Romanian outfit a goal just three seconds into the second-half of the game when his clearance was charged down by Daniel Bîrligea. Explaining what he did to get over the mistake that saw his side fall to a 2-0 defeat, Olafsson believes Slicker must simply get back on the horse as quickly as possible, and backed him to start for Steve Clarke's side against Liechtenstein on Monday. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'It probably is [the best thing for him to play again on Monday] to be honest,' said the Iceland international. 'To come into the game and know you're going to play. That's 100% the best thing, in my opinion. I had one in the Europa League game. I don't know if you've seen it. It's a pretty big mistake from kick-off, but that's how it is. Elias Rafn Olafsson in action for FC Midtjylland in the Europa League. | Ritzau Scanpix/AFP via Getty Ima 'People see the mistakes. You have to be strong mentally for that. You just have to be honest. It's a mistake by you. You just have to be honest and forget about it. It's a part of the game. When we make mistakes, it's very obvious — it leads to a goal. It's a bit of a different position to the outfield players. You hope you make them in training, not in the games. But you can't always. It was not his day today. It was a hard game to come into. I feel it's hard making any debut, coming in when you don't expect to come in as a goalkeeper off the bench.' His country's first ever victory on Scottish soil, the imposing 6ft 7in goalkeeper admits the win was vitally important to Iceland as he reflected on his own performance in Mount Florida and explained what surprised him most about Scotland's display. 'It's a really big one, especially with the new things we're trying to build,' said Olafsson. 'It worked out pretty well. Apart from the last 20 minutes where we fell back a little bit trying to keep the ball a little bit, it went well. It was really nice to play in front of the Scottish fans as well. It was a nice experience. It was definitely one of the most fun ones. It really was. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad
