RESA Encourages U.S. Energy Consumers to Shop on National Energy Shopping Day

Business Wire3 hours ago

HARRISBURG, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA), the national trade association representing competitive retail energy suppliers, is marking the sixth annual National Energy Shopping Day by encouraging Americans to take advantage of their power to choose.
Today is National Energy Shopping Day, which serves as an annual reminder to review your current energy plan, compare available offers, explore clean energy options and choose a gas and electric supplier that meets your individual needs.

Recognized every year on the first day of summer and included in Chase's Calendar of Events, National Energy Shopping Day promotes consumer awareness and engagement in competitive energy markets. The day serves as a reminder for individuals and businesses in states with retail choice to shop for energy plans that reflect their personal preferences, whether that means seeking renewable options, locking in fixed rates or finding budget-friendly pricing.
'Shopping for energy is one of the most overlooked ways consumers can make a real impact on their energy bills, their sustainability goals and take control of their energy choices,' said Tracy McCormick, executive director of RESA. 'We believe that every consumer deserves more than one monopoly option. They deserve the right to choose.'
Currently, 14 states and the District of Columbia allow consumers to select their own electricity and/or natural gas supplier. However, a national survey by Ragnar Research Partners reveals a significant disconnect: 74% of Americans want to choose their energy provider, while only 28% currently have the option.
RESA offers free, easy-to-use tools at RESAusa.org to help consumers:
Determine if energy choice is available in their state
Where to compare energy providers and plans
How to shop for energy
Understand key contract terms and rate structures
Energy choice isn't just about shopping—it's about empowerment, competition and innovation. RESA remains committed to educating consumers, supporting transparent marketplaces and expanding access to energy choice nationwide.
ABOUT NATIONAL ENERGY SHOPPING DAY
National Energy Shopping Day is an initiative created by RESA to encourage individuals residing in states that offer retail energy choice in electric and natural gas suppliers to find the best provider tailored to their specific requirements. Consumers can select a plan that offers clean energy products or benefits, such as smart home integration or energy efficiency programs, for their homes or businesses. ABOUT RESA
The Retail Energy Supply Association is a broad and diverse group of retail energy suppliers who share the common vision that competitive retail electricity and natural gas markets deliver a more efficient, customer-oriented outcome than a regulated utility structure. RESA is devoted to working with all stakeholders to promote vibrant and sustainable competitive retail energy markets for residential and industrial consumers. Insurer Aflac investigating possible data breach after attack on US network

(Reuters) -Aflac on Friday disclosed a cybersecurity incident in which personal information of its customers may have been compromised, making it the latest insurance provider to be targeted. The health and life insurance firm said the attack on its U.S. network, which was identified on June 12, was caused by a "sophisticated cybercrime group", but did not specify a name. It said it was unable to determine the total number of affected individuals until a review, which is in its early stages, is completed. The company said it was able to stop the intrusion within hours and has reached out to third-party cybersecurity experts to investigate into the incident. The company said the potentially impacted files contain personal information of its customers, such as social security numbers and health-related details. Aflac offers accident and pet insurance plans in the U.S. and Japan. It manages personal, medical and financial data of more than 50 million policyholders. Health insurers have been facing increased cybersecurity risks recently with UnitedHealth's breach being the most notable example impacting 100 million people last year. UnitedHealth's Change unit was breached by a hacking group called ALPHV, also known as "BlackCat" who are estimated to have stolen a third of Americans' data in one of the worst hacks to hit the U.S. healthcare sector. Shares of Aflac fell 1.3% in premarket trading.

RFK Jr. says Starbucks will ‘MAHA its menu' — and praises chain for avoiding artificial dyes and flavors

Starbucks' top executive has agreed to further align its menu with the Trump administration's health goals under its 'Make America Healthy Again' initiative, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy, who has been examining the nation's food system to address the root causes of childhood chronic disease, said in a post on X that he met with Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol on Tuesday, who 'shared the company's plans to further MAHA its menu.' During the discussion, Kennedy said he was 'pleased to learn that Starbucks' food and beverages already avoid artificial dyes, artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners and other additives.' Starbucks said the meeting with Kennedy was productive. The company, which announced earlier this year that it was cutting 30% of its menu in order to simplify operations and drive innovation, has already been testing healthier drink options such as a sugar-free vanilla latte topped with protein banana cold foam. 3 Robert F. Plus, we keep it real — no high fructose corn syrup, artificial dyes, flavors, or artificial trans-fats,' Starbucks said in a statement to FOX Business. Under the MAHA initiative, the administration said it would 'lead a coordinated transformation of our food, health, and scientific systems' that it believes will 'ensure that all Americans — today and in the future — live longer, healthier lives, supported by systems that prioritize prevention, well being, and resilience.' 3 Kennedy has taken issue with various ingredients, saying that products such as seed oil and FD&C color additives are harmful to humans. Kennedy has specifically been working to cut out the color additives from the U.S. food supply, saying the 'poisonous compounds offer no nutritional benefit and pose real, measurable dangers to our children's health and development.' Kennedy and the FDA announced a series of new measures in April to phase out all petroleum-based synthetic dyes from the nation's food supply. Kennedy noted that this effort would need voluntary support from food manufacturers, but that the 'industry has voluntarily agreed' to do so. Two major food giants, General Mills and Kraft Heinz, pledged this week to remove FD&C artificial dyes from their respective portfolio of products within the next two years. McCormick told analysts during its earnings call in March that it has been working with restaurants and foodmakers to reformulate products to remove certain ingredients like food dyes.
