The death toll from the massive explosion that rocked Iran's southern Shahid Rajaei Port on Saturday has risen to 28, while the number of injuries surpassed 1000, Iranian media quoted local authorities as saying.
On Sunday, a dense plume of smoke continued to rise from the Shahid Rajaei port in Bandar Abbas City as rescue teams operated throughout the night.
The schools in Bandar Abbas, located at a distance of 20 km from the blast site, have been closed on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Iran's crisis management organization has apparently attributed the explosion to the poor quality of storage of chemicals in containers at the strategic port in southern Iran.
'The cause of the explosion was the chemicals inside the containers,' Hossein Zafari told ILNA.
He noted that the director general of crisis management had already given warnings to the port authorities during visits and had cautioned against the possibility of danger.
Officials said although chemicals had likely caused the explosion, it was not still possible to ascertain the exact reason.
National Iranian Oil Products Refining and Distribution Company has issued a statement, saying the oil facilities in the nearby yards were not affected by the blast.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for a probe into the incident. On Sunday, he traveled to the coastal province of Hormozgan to visit the location of the blast.

Iran Threatens to Strike Secret Israeli Nuclear Plants

Iran's Supreme National Security Council announced that the Israeli enemy's target bank is on the table of the armed forces, after Tehran revealed it had obtained a large amount of sensitive strategic information and documents related to 'Israel'. The council explained in a statement on Monday that the complex intelligence operation carried out by members of the 'Soldiers of Imam Mahdi' unit represents a major intelligence gain and is part of a quiet and precise strategy pursued by the Iranian state in confronting enemy campaigns. 'This breakthrough comes within the framework of smart planning and quiet procedures and is being complemented on the ground through the armed forces' continuous, day and night, unpretentious struggle with the aim of creating an operational capability which commensurate with the strengths and weaknesses of the Zionist entity and its supporters.' The council explained that access to this data today and the completion of the intelligence and operational cycle have enabled the Mujahideen of Islam to respond immediately to any potential attack by the Zionist entity on Iran's nuclear facilities, by targeting its secret nuclear facilities, and to respond in kind to any sabotage against economic or military infrastructure in a precise and proportionate manner, consistent with the type of attack. Earlier, Iran's Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib unveiled the trove of secret 'Israeli' documents the country has obtained are related to the occupying entity's nuclear facilities and will enhance Iran's offensive capabilities. Separately, Iran received 'elements' of the US proposal last week regarding an agreement on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, but considered the proposal contains 'many ambiguities' and confirmed that it would soon submit its own proposal for an agreement with Washington.

Iran to Respond to US' Proposal in Days: Tasnim News Agency

Iran will reportedly give its response to a recent proposal that the US has submitted via Oman within the next two days. Tasnim has learned that Iran's formal response to the American proposal will be sent within the next two days. Iran's written reply to the US will be reportedly given through diplomatic channels. Iran's response is said to include a proposal for an ultimate nuclear agreement that entails the maintenance of uranium enrichment inside Iran as well as a series of measures by Iran to allay the US' concerns in exchange for the effective removal of sanctions. It appears that Iran will also express its readiness for the next round of indirect nuclear talks with US provided that Tehran's red lines are not crossed. Last week, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said an American proposal has been delivered by the Foreign Minister of Oman Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi. 'My dear brother Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, distinguished Foreign Minister of Oman, paid a short visit to Tehran today to present elements of a US proposal which will be appropriately responded to in line with the principles, national interests and rights of the people of Iran,' Araqchi said in an X post. Iran and the US have held five rounds of talks since April 12, mediated by Oman, with the purpose of reaching a deal on Iran's nuclear program and the removal of sanctions on Tehran.

Iran claims obtaining sensitive Israeli documents which it will soon unveil

Sensitive Israeli documents obtained by Tehran should be unveiled soon, Minister of Intelligence Esmail Khatib told state TV on Sunday, describing them as a 'treasure trove' which will strengthen Iran's offensive capabilities. Iranian state media reported on Saturday that Iranian intelligence agencies had obtained a large trove of sensitive Israeli documents. Khatib said these were related to Israel's nuclear facilities and its relations with the United States, Europe and other countries, and to its defensive capabilities. There was no immediate official comment from Israel. It was not clear whether the information breach was linked to a reported hacking of an Israeli nuclear research centre last year which Tehran is only disclosing now amid heightened tensions over its nuclear programme. 'The transfer of this treasure trove was time-consuming and required security measures. Naturally, the transfer methods will remain confidential but the documents should be unveiled soon,' Khatib said, adding that in terms of volume, 'talking of thousands of documents would be an understatement.' In 2018 , Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israeli agents had seized a huge 'archive' of Iranian documents that showed Tehran had done more nuclear work than previously known. U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to bomb Iran if Tehran did not come to an agreement with Washington over its nuclear programme. But Trump in April reportedly blocked a planned Israeli strike on Iranian nuclear sites in favour of negotiating a deal with Tehran. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that abandoning uranium enrichment was '100%' against Iran's interests, rejecting a central U.S. demand in talks to resolve a decades-long dispute over Tehran's nuclear ambitions. Western powers say Iran is refining uranium to a high degree of fissile purity close to the level suitable for atomic bomb fuel. Iran has long denied seeking nuclear weapons. Israeli analysts cast doubt on Iran's claim Israeli security experts have cast doubt on Tehran's recent claims of obtaining sensitive Israeli intelligence as exaggerated or psychological warfare while Iran's intelligence minister says the documents will soon be made public. Asher Ben-Artzi, a former head of Israel's Interpol, told Iran International, 'I know that the relevant information is well-guarded in Israel and it does not seem to me that hackers can access it.' He warned that the intelligence may not be as significant as claimed. 'Iran wants to tell the world that their intelligence personnel are professionals, but they probably think that their use of disinformation will increase their achievements,' he said. Intelligence analyst Ronen Solomon also said, 'We don't know if it's something scientific or operational, and it could possibly be something like details of the supply chain. Nobody in Israel has confirmed this officially so it could also be a psychological operation.' 'Iran is attempting to replicate what Israel did to Tehran's nuclear archives in 2018,' he said, referring to the Israeli intelligence operation that allegedly seized Iranian nuclear files from a warehouse in Tehran. In 2018, Israel said it had stolen Iran's nuclear documents including 55,000 pages and 55,000 digital files from a warehouse in Tehran's Shourabad area through an intelligence operation. Iran has since been accusing the UN nuclear watchdog of using those documents in its reports about the Islamic Republic's nuclear activities. RTeuters, Iran Int'l
