Pezeshkian Rebukes Trump, Vows Iran Will 'Not Bow to Any Power'

Al Manar15-05-2025

During his first official visit to Kermanshah Province on Wednesday, Iranian President Pezeshkian defiantly declared that the nation's unwavering resolve cannot be shaken by the relentless threats and pressure it has endured for nearly five decades.
In a powerful speech before local elites, intellectuals and cultural luminaries, the president passionately highlighted the Iranian people's resilience, honor, bravery, patience and spirit of sacrifice that have allowed them to withstand 47 years of adversaries' futile attempts to undermine the Islamic Republic.

Pezeshkian vehemently rejected accusations labeling Iran as a source of regional instability, pointing to the hypocrisy of critics who have inflicted immense suffering on defenseless populations like in Gaza, where 60,000 women and children have perished in bombings and been deprived of basic necessities like water and medicine. He asserted that the true roots of Iran's challenges lie in the unjust policies of sanctions, economic terrorism, warmongering and destruction advocated by hostile foreign powers.
Addressing the assassinations of Iranian scientists, the president pointedly noted that the perpetrators were not Iranians, but the very same entities now hurling accusations at Iran.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says some Western countries are trying to sow discord in West Asia to serve their own interests, emphasizing that Tehran will not permit foreign entities to disrupt the region's stability.

He lambasted the extensive resources pooled by the US and its allies in a vain effort to sow internal division, emphasizing their fundamental failure to grasp the indomitable spirit of the brave Iranian people who cannot be defeated.
Pezeshkian underscored Iran's steadfast commitment to regional cooperation, citing its treaties of brotherhood and friendship with neighboring countries and categorical rejection of territorial expansion. Iran's sole aim, he affirmed, is to elevate the dignity and pride of its people – a conviction deeply rooted in the nation's history and culture. While the Islamic Republic does not seek conflict, it will never sacrifice its self-respect for the false promise of peace.
The president called for national unity among all Iranians, regardless of language, religion or belief, as the key to powerfully building the nation. He urged citizens to strive to be an inspiring regional example, as envisioned by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
Pezeshkian concluded by dismissing threats as mere illusions nurtured by Iran's adversaries, pointing to the atrocities and aggression of the Zionist regime against Palestinians as evidence of the true source of instability. With a unified populace, he declared, Iran will continue to rise and develop into a thriving, prosperous nation.

Growing fears of massive strikes on Iran as nuclear negotiations sputter

If the U.S.-Iranian talks fail, and strikes on Iran occur, the ramifications could be very far-reaching. U.S. President Donald Trump has been presented with a broad array of potential military options against Iran should ongoing nuclear negotiations with that country fail. Israel is already reportedly moving ever closer to at least being in a position to launch its own strikes on Iranian nuclear sites . The direct and indirect blowback from any such operations against Iran could be immense. Fears that U.S.-Iranian nuclear talks are on the verge of collapse have been steadily growing in the past week or so amid statements from both sides outlining potentially intractable positions. Iran's ability to continue domestic enrichment of nuclear material that could be used to produce nuclear weapons has emerged as a key stumbling block to reaching a deal. 'If the President directed [it], is CENTCOM [U.S. Central Command] prepared to respond with overwhelming force to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran?' Congressman Mike Rogers, an Alabama Republican, asked U.S. Army Gen. Michael 'Erik' Kurilla at a hearing of the House Armed Services Committee today. Kurilla is currently head of CENTCOM, making him the top officer overseeing operations across the Middle East. 'I have provided the Secretary of Defense [Pete Hegseth] and the President [Trump] a wide range of options,' Kurilla said in response. 'I take that as a yes?' Rogers, the present chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, asked in return, appearing to refer to the specific wording of his question, to include the possible use of 'overwhelming force.' 'Yes,' Kurrila said. Top U.S. military commander in the Middle East General Kurilla confirms that he has presented military options on Iran to President Trump & SecDef Hegseth in House Armed Services Committee this morning. It is important to note here that U.S. presidents and defense secretaries regularly ask to be briefed on potential military options in light of crises or heightened risks of one erupting. Being presented with a full range of operational possibilities, including large-scale strikes or other significant direct action, does not mean the United States is automatically committed to pursuing any specific course of action, something we will come back to later on. Publicly, Trump has consistently advocated for reaching a deal with Iran to avoid any need to take military action, though he has also raised the possibility of military action in the event talks reach a dead end. He has separately said that he has pressed his Israeli counterpart, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to hold off on striking Iranian targets while negotiations are ongoing. There have been reports of significant friction between the two leaders , as well. Amid all this, the U.S. president is said to be facing increasingly intense pressure from a faction of domestic political allies to acquiesce to and/or join in on Israeli attacks on Iran, according to a new report just today from Politico . Agreement with US ‘within Reach' if It Ensures Enrichment and Lifts Sanctions: Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says an agreement with the United States is within reach if Iran's right to uranium enrichment is guaranteed and sanctions against Tehran are lifted. Araghchi made the remarks in a post on his X account on Wednesday, ahead of the upcoming sixth round of indirect talks between Tehran and Washington on Iran's nuclear program, scheduled for June 15 in Muscat, Oman. The talks, mediated by Oman, have faced hurdles as the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for a complete halt to Iran's uranium enrichment—a demand Tehran has firmly rejected. Araghchi emphasized that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons, saying such a premise could form the basis of a new deal with the United States. 'President Trump entered office saying that Iran should not have nuclear weapons. That is actually in line with our own doctrine and could become the main foundation for a deal,' he said. 'As we resume talks on Sunday, it is clear that an agreement that can ensure the continued peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program is within reach and could even be achieved quickly,' the foreign minister added. Araghchi made it clear that 'a mutually beneficial outcome' in the negotiations would hinge on the recognition of Iran's right to enrichment, under the full supervision of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, as well as the effective termination of sanctions.

Berri: Lebanon and sons of South want UNIFIL to stay

by Naharnet Newsdesk 11 June 2025, 12:17 Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has stressed that 'Lebanon and the sons of the South more than others want UNIFIL to stay in their towns and to preserve the mutual relation between the two sides, which has persisted since its units came in 1978.' In remarks to An-Nahar newspaper, Berri added that no Western or U.N. official has told him that the U.N. force would leave south Lebanon, dismissing the latest reports in this regard. 'In his discussions with (French envoy Jean-Yves) Le Drian and everyone who communicated with him over the past days, Berri asked about Israel's continued violations and the conspiracy against UNIFIL without any concern from the U.S. and the other parties,' the daily added. Berri lamented to Le Drian and others that Israel 'destroyed a group of buildings that housed more than 100 families' in its latest airstrikes on Beirut's southern suburbs, the newspaper said. The Speaker also told Le Drian that France should 'play a bigger role and shoulder its responsibilities,' adding that UNIFIL must stay in Lebanon and its mandate must be extended, An-Nahar reported. Berri's remarks come following a flurry of clashes between residents of south Lebanon and UNIFIL patrols.
