Cyriel Dessers Rangers transfer exit silence broken as AEK Athens boss directly addresses pursuit of striker
AEK are willing to offer the Nigerian a lucrative contract to bring him to Athens
AEK boss Marko Nikolic has poured cold water over talk that Rangers frontman Cyriel Dessers could be on his way to Greece.
Record Sport understands that while the Athens side are very keen on the Nigeria international - who has has shook hands on a £30,000 a week contract - the clubs are yet to agree a transfer fee.
Gers are hoping to make a profit on the £4.5million they shelled out to bring Dessers to Ibrox in 2023, where the number nine has scored 51 goals across the past two seasons.
Reports in Greece recently claimed that the two parties were working on closing the distance in the figures in order to strike a deal but head coach Nikolic has hinted that his side's focus is not on bolstering their options in the forward department.
Asked if a new attacker was on his immediate wishlist after Saturday's 6-0 friendly victory over FC De Westhoek, the Serbian responded: "No, because in attack we are good with Zini, Pierrot, Martial and even Eliasson.
"We are working on the left-back, but we have time. Full-backs on the market are always a difficult matter. It is not a big issue, we are also looking for a player for another position."
Meanwhile, former Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has been told he is free to leave Rennes this summer - according to a report.
The Finland star joined the Ligue 1 side from Leeds United for £8.5million last July only to be shipped out on loan to Saudi Pro League outfit Al Shabab six months later.
HommeduMatch claim that Rennes are planning a big clear out of the squad this summer after a disappointing league season where they finished the campaign in 12th place.
Also on their reported transfer list is Celtic hero Kyogo Furuhashi, who made just six appearances in the French top tier following his £10million switch from Parkhead back in January.
The Japan striker is said to be a target for English Championship new boys Birmingham City, while Premier League side Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest in the 30-year-old.

12th-inning uprising carries Mariners over Rangers
June 29 - Donovan Solano's groundout in the 12th inning drove in the go-ahead run and Mitch Garver followed with a two-run homer as the Seattle Mariners outlasted the Texas Rangers 6-4 on Sunday afternoon to clinch a three-game series in Arlington, Texas. Solano and Garver's heroics off Texas reliever Cole Winn (0-1) capped a contest in which the teams combined to go 8-for-31 with runners in scoring position. Trent Thornton (2-0) pitched the final two innings, allowing one run and two walks and striking out two. All three of the games in the series were decided in extra innings, with the Mariners winning 7-6 in 12 innings on Friday and the Rangers evening the set with a 3-2 victory in 10 on Saturday. Garver had three hits and four RBI for Seattle on Sunday to lead its 13-hit attack. Evan Carter went 3-for-4 with a double to lead Texas, which had nine hits. It looked like Solano and Garver had won the game for the Mariners in the 10th inning with RBI singles off Texas reliever Luke Jackson to give Seattle a 3-1 lead. But Corey Seager answered for Texas in the bottom of the frame with a ringing two-run home run to left-center field off Carlos Vargas to send the game to the 11th inning. Texas grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Josh Jung's single drove in Carter, who had doubled with one out. The Mariners answered in the sixth as Garver singled with two outs to plate Randy Arozarena, who had singled with one out and advanced to second on a flyout by Dominic Canzone. Luis Castillo started for the Mariners and Jack Leiter was first to the mound for Texas. Both went six innings and neither was involved in the decision while producing near-identical line scores. Castillo allowed one run on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts but endured his seventh straight outing without a win. He has recorded two losses and five no-decisions since his last victory on May 19 over the White Sox in Chicago. Leiter also gave up a run on seven hits without a walk and seven strikeouts. He was trying to produce his first win in June but finished the month with three losses in his five starts. --Field Level Media

Rangers ready to crank up efforts to land key transfer target after signing rivals see offer kicked out by his club
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS are ready to crank up their efforts to sign Brazilian midfielder Metinho. The Gers are on the 22-year-old's trail along with Basel after he produced a series of outstanding performances for the Swiss champions on loan from Troyes last season. 2 Metinho is a target for Rangers Credit: Alamy 2 The midfielder is also wanted by Basel, where he impressed on loan last season Credit: Alamy Champions League-bound Basel have already had one bid booted out by the French club, leaving the door open for Rangers to now swoop. And Troyes expect the battle to land him to hot up in the coming days. New Ibrox owners 49ers Enterprises picked Metinho out as a player they wanted to invest in before formally taking over earlier this month. And now they're ready to enter the chase in the hope of getting a deal done before Russell Martin's side play Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifiers on July 22. Troyes are willing to do business for Metinho, who signed for them from Fluminense for £4million in 2021. The midfielder has spent the last three seasons out on loan, twice in Holland with Lommel and Sparta Rotterdam, before moving to Switzerland in January. It was at Basel he really flourished and they are desperate to get a deal done to keep him on a permanent basis. But Rangers have long had him marked out as a summer target so hope to get a deal over the line ahead of them. Metinho's style of play has seen him nicknamed 'the Brazilian Paul Pogba' in some quarters. Gers boss Martin is also closing in on Leicester defender Conor Coady but have missed out to QPR for Peterborough's Kwame Poku. Sir Sean Connery's secret £1 MILLION investment in Rangers revealed Former Dundee defender Owen Beck is on their radar from Liverpool, along with striker Dor Turgeman from Maccabi Tel Aviv. There will also likely be outgoings in the coming weeks, with AEK Athens bidding to sign Cyriel Dessers while French side Lille want Hamza Igamane. Meanwhile, Jose Cifuentes looks set to return to Rangers. The midfielder spent last season in Greece with Aris Thessaloniki and impressed. But Aris failed to take up their option to sign him and the midfielder has now bid an emotional farewell to the club. Cifuentes, 26, only made nine league appearances for the Gers after joining in August 2023. He was sent on loan to Cruzeiro in Brazil the following February before heading to Greece last summer.
