New Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line, Project of Major Socio-Economic Significance
The Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail Line, launched on Thursday by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is a project of considerable economic and social importance that will further enhance the national transportation system.
This new Line forms part of the ongoing expansion of the Kingdom's rail infrastructure under the impetus of HM the King. Building on the success of Al-Boraq, it confirms high-speed rail as the most efficient and sustainable mode of passenger transport over medium and long distances, with numerous positive impacts.
With this new project, travel times will be significantly reduced: 1 hour between Tangier and Rabat, 1 hour 15 minutes between Casablanca and Marrakech, 1 hour 40 minutes between Tangier and Casablanca and between Rabat and Marrakech, and just 2 hours 40 minutes between Tangier and Marrakech, a time saving of over two hours.
The project will also connect Rabat to Casablanca Airport in just 35 minutes and will serve the future Benslimane stadium. A high-speed service is also planned between Fez and Marrakech, with a travel time of 3 hours 40 minutes.
The future High-Speed Rail Line will serve 59% of the national population and link economic regions accounting for more than 67% of the national GDP. It will also create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and stimulate various sectors, including industry, services, and tourism.
Extending the High-Speed Rail Line to Marrakech will enhance the city's tourism appeal by improving access from the north. By directly connecting Tangier, Morocco's maritime gateway, to Marrakech, the Kingdom's premier tourist destination, this line will boost both domestic and international tourist flows while providing a faster, more comfortable, and modern travel experience.
It will also support regional planning and development by strengthening connections between major economic hubs, while promoting environmental sustainability in line with national development goals, through a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The Kenitra-Marrakech High Speed Rail Line extension will free up capacity on the conventional network, enabling the development of a major local metropolitan train service to meet part of the public transport needs of the inhabitants of the Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech conurbations. This new service is a genuine response to the challenges of urban mobility in these three metropolitan areas, and offers a number of advantages in terms of punctuality, service quality and sustainability.
As an innovative solution, the High-Speed Rail Line is a natural choice that reinforces the momentum of the national transport sector in supporting the Kingdom's economic and social development.

Will Pakistan follow India's footsteps into Morocco's defense industry ?
Morocco and Pakistan are reportedly close to signing a military cooperation agreement aimed at deepening their strategic partnership in defense and security, according to military sources cited by a defense-focused Arabic media outlet. The agreement is expected to include the local production of Pakistani weapons in Morocco. This initiative reflects Rabat's broader goal of diversifying its strategic partnerships and expanding its network of defense allies, the same source noted. Pakistan, through its Defense Production Establishment (DPE) and key institutions such as Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) and the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), established in 1971, has developed advanced defense manufacturing capabilities. The country produces tanks like the Al-Khalid and Al-Dhargham, armored vehicles, heavy ammunition, and light weapons. Pakistan also manufactures the JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, co-developed with China and produced independently in upgraded versions since 2010. Following in a Rival's Footsteps Military cooperation between Morocco and Pakistan has steadily expanded since the February 2020 visit of General Qamar Javed Bajwa, then Chief of Pakistan's Army Staff, to Morocco. In November 2024, Major General Mohamed Gadih, Inspector of the Royal Air Forces, visited Islamabad to meet with Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, his Pakistani counterpart. These high-level exchanges paved the way for a broader bilateral defense program. In April, Moroccan Royal Armed Forces and Pakistani special forces conducted joint training exercises in Cherat. Morocco also took part in an international military drill held in Pakistan in October 2023. The upcoming agreement comes as Morocco has already strengthened defense ties with Pakistan's historical rival, India. In September 2024, Rabat partnered with Indian conglomerate Tata to produce WhAP 8×8 land combat vehicles. That deal was followed by the December 2024 visit of Indian defense industry representatives to Rabat, where they met with Abdeltif Loudiyi, Minister Delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration. More recently, on May 29, the Indian ambassador to Rabat met with Loudiyi to discuss further strengthening bilateral defense cooperation, according to a statement from the Indian embassy.

Poultry Prices Go Up Ahead of Eid Al Adha
Rabat – Moroccan markets have witnessed a notable increase in poultry produce just days ahead of Eid Al Adha, which will take place on June 7 in Morocco. Moroccan state-owned news provider SNRTNews reported today that prices of poultry in Casablanca markets reached MAD 23 per kilogram compared to MAD 17. Experts suggest that the notable change is due to the cancellation of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice ritual, which prompted a significant demand for poultry. In February, King Mohammed VI announced the cancellation of the sacrifice ritual, citing socio-economic challenges including drought. The climate challenges affected the livestock population, which saw a remarkable decrease. In response, the King stressed that the feast celebration could be enjoyed through performing Eid prayers and enjoying its spiritual significance, in addition to family visits and the atmosphere. Moroccans have in recent weeks taken to social media to comment on the high demand for meat products ahead of Eid Al Adha. This came as many Muslims are expected to enjoy the feast's culinary delicacies despite the absence of the sacrifice ritual. Some, however, have turned to buying fish and poultry products, as they fear that shops will be closed for weeks. Butchers traditionally close for several weeks during Eid Al Adha, knowing that most families have already secured more than enough meat through the sacrifice of goats or sheep. Butchers and markets selling poultry products have urged citizens to stock up on poultry provisions, warning against a similar scenario. Mohamed Aboud, president of the National Association of chicken farmers, told SNRTnews that the cancellation of the sacrifice ritual led many citizens to turn more heavily to poultry meat. He stressed that during Eid al-Adha, markets see a drop in demand for poultry initially. There is an exception this year, however, he said, noting that retail chicken prices now range between MAD 21 and 23 instead of their initial prices set at MAD 17. Mustapha Mountassir, president of the National Association of Poultry Meat Producers, echoed the same statement to the same source, noting that the price rise is due to demand outpacing supply. Gambia Reaffirms Support for Morocco's Territorial Integrity
Rabat – Morocco's Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita met in Rabat on Tuesday with his Gambian counterpart Mamadou Tangara, with the pair pledging to strengthen bilateral relations. The meeting took place at the Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs. Tangara presented a letter to Bourita as a message from President Adama Barrow to King Mohammed VI. The two parties discussed issues of mutual importance in consultation, particularly on the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), of which Gambia currently holds a rotating presidency. King Mohammed VI is the current chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, a standing committee within OIC focused on cultural, political, social, religious and human rights in Jerusalem. Mamadou Tangara also stressed his country's 'unambiguous' support for Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara, hailing the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the most viable path to a lasting resolution of that territorial dispute. Tangara further highlighted Morocco's major diplomatic breakthroughs in recent years, citing the UK's decision to support the Moroccan autonomy plan. In recent years Gambia and Morocco have built strong bilateral relations and cooperation, and they have worked together in many areas within economic and social development. Gambia has worked with Morocco within the African Union and built several cooperation agreements . The West African country has also recently commended the Moroccan Atlantic Ocean Access Initiative, describing Morocco in 2024 as a pioneer of South-South cooperation .
