Poland's Hubert Hurkacz announced his withdrawal from Wimbledon on Friday, citing a setback during his recovery from surgery.
World no. 6 Hurkacz has not played since he withdrew from the Libema Open earlier this month due to a lower back injury, with the tournament's fifth seed forced to take two medical timeouts in a first-round victory before he withdrew.
Hurkacz also underwent meniscus surgery on his right knee after retiring from his second-round match at Wimbledon last year, where he was the seventh seed, forcing him to skip the Olympics as well.

'Over the past few weeks, you've seen me on court through both the highs and the more challenging moments. Unfortunately, today I have to share some difficult news," Hurkacz said in a statement.
'After careful consideration and consultation with my team, we have made the decision to withdraw from this year's Wimbledon.
'During preparations, my body reacted – synovial membrane irritation – which is part of the recovery process from my surgery. It needs rest and treatment, and I need to listen to my body."

He is 15-11 this season but has not played since withdrawing from the Libema Open earlier this month due to a lower back injury.
Hurkacz has won eight singles titles on the ATP Tour and is still looking for his first Grand Slam win. He reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2021.
'It is not easy to step away from such a prestigious tournament," Hurkacz said. 'But I know this is the right decision for my long-term health and performance."
The Wimbledon draw was made earlier on Friday, and Hurkacz was set to play Briton Billy Harris in the first round of the grasscourt Grand Slam, which begins on Monday.

Tennis-It's all cool with Coco, says Sabalenka, after Paris heartache

* HT Image Compelling Sabalenka-Gauff rivalry moves to Wimbledon * Top seed said sorry to Gauff after French Open comments * 'We are friends,' says Sabalenka By Martyn Herman LONDON, - Wimbledon top seed Aryna Sabalenka says she has cleared the air with Coco Gauff after she raised eyebrows with her remarks in the aftermath of her French Open final loss to the American. An emotional Sabalenka described the match as the "worst tennis" she had played for many months and that her mistakes, rather than Gauff's excellence, had been the decisive factor. Sabalenka wrote to Gauff to apologise soon after, labelling her remarks "unprofessional" and the two rivals were seen chatting happily on the Wimbledon practice courts this week. "We've always been really good with Coco. Honestly, as I said in the statement and I messaged to her, I didn't really want to offend her," the 27-year-old Sabalenka, who is bidding for her first Wimbledon title, told reporters. "I was just completely, like, upset with myself, and emotions got over me. I just completely lost it. "Of course, she's got my respect. She knew it. She knows it. I'm happy that she was, like, 'yeah, it's all good, don't worry.' I was talking, we are good, we are friends. I hope the U.S. media can be easy on me right now. "I did what I did. I get what I deserved, I believe. It was a tough time for me," she added, saying she has immersed herself in reading books to take her mind off her Paris heartache. Gauff won that error-strewn French final 6-7 6-2 6-4 and is seeded two at Wimbledon and the likelihood is that their compelling rivalry could continue in the final in a fortnight. SABALENKA TRAILS HEAD-TO-HEAD Three-time Grand Slam champion Sabalenka's loss to Gauff in Paris followed her loss to the American in the U.S. Open final in 2023 and she trails their head-to-head 6-5. Asked whether she would relish the chance to avenge the loss by beating Gauff in the Wimbledon final, she sounded unsure. "I don't know, in this case maybe I don't want to see Coco if I make it to the finals. But if she's going to be there, I'm happy because I want to get the revenge!" A jovial Sabalenka was joined for the last minute of her press conference by seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic whom she said she had a long chat with this week after hitting with the Serbian on the grass. "Novak is the best. First of all, I was able to hit with him. Then you can chat with him. He will give his honest advice," she said. "It's amazing, to hear the opinion of such a legend. We were just chatting about stuff that I'm struggling a little bit. I'm really thankful for the advice he gave me." Sabalenka begins on Monday against Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine, saying she knows nothing about her other than the fact that she is "really beautiful". Neeraj Chopra backs Jasprit Bumrah to excel in javelin throw

New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): India's world champion and Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra feels that Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah can excel in his discipline. Neeraj will be in action during the Neeraj Chopra Classic at Bengaluru on July 5. Ahead of the event, he was quoted as saying by to Star Sports, 'I think it would be a fast bowler (A good javelin thrower from other sport), for sure. So, I think a fully fit Jasprit Bumrah, in his prime, will be good at it.' Fast bowlers and javelin throwers both require a strong, steady run-up to build momentum. Good speed and timing are extremely important, so are powerful legs, core and shoulders for an explosive finish. Bumrah is currently the top-ranked Test bowler in the world and a massive part of India's pace attack. In the recent Leeds Test against England, he took a five-wicket haul in the first innings and went wicketless while defending 371 runs for the team. On the other hand, Chopra reclaimed his number one spot in men's javelin throw world rankings from Anderson Peters of Grenada following a string of brilliant performances on the international stage. World Athletics updated the rankings earlier this week, increasing Neeraj's points to 1,445 compared to Peters' tally of 1,431, according to Also, Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem sits at number four with 1,370 points to his name. Neeraj lost his top spot to Peters back in September 2024, just shortly after the Paris Olympics, where he attained a silver medal with a throw of 89.45, and Peters took home the bronze. The year 2025 has been incredible for Neeraj, as he kickstarted with a win at the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April and followed it up with a very special second-place finish at Doha Diamond League, where he crossed the 90-metre mark for the first time ever with a throw of 90.23 m. He also went on to secure a second spot in the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland later that month and resumed his winning ways with back-to-back titles at Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike this month, with best efforts of 88.16 m and 85.29 m. 'Everybody Dance Now': Aryna Sabaleka, Coco Gauff Shake A Leg Ahead Of Wimbledon

Last Updated: Sabalenka and Gauff were filmed grooving to Bob Sinclair's hit number 'Rock This Party' ahead of the grass court major at SW19. Top-ranked women's tennis player Aryna Sabalenka and American ace Coco Gauff were seen in high spirits as the duo danced together on Friday ahead of the grass court grand slam event at Wimbledon. Gauff pipped Sabalenka to the French Open 2025 crown at Roland Garros a couple of weeks earlier, but there seemed to be no bad blood between the competitiors as they moved in sync to the famous Bob Sinclair's hit number 'Rock This Party' ahead of the grass court major at SW19. 'TikTok dances always had a way of bringing people together," Gauff posted on Instagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Aryna Sabalenka (@arynasabalenka) Sabalenka is slated to open her Wimbledon campaign against Canadian qualifier Carson Branstine, while Gauff begins her chalenge for the SW19 crown against Dayana Yastremska. The No. 1-ranked Sabalenka and the No. 2-ranked Gauff held a practice session together at Centre Court ahead of the year's third Grand Slam tournament, which begins on Monday. Three weeks ago, Gauff got the better of Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 in the championship match at the last major, the French Open. Following the win, Sabalenka faced criticism for stating that Gauff won the match not because she played incredibly, but because I made all of those mistakes with easy balls. Later, however, Sabalenka described her comments as unprofessional and said she had written to Gauff to apologise. The 27-year-old Belarussian, Sabalenka, is a three-time Grand Slam champion and was the runner-up both times Gauff, a 21-year-old American, won a major trophy, including at the 2023 U.S. Open. At Wimbledon this year, they could only meet each other in the final on July 12. First Published:
