Is Bob Dylan Still a ‘Complete Unknown'?
Elijah Wald's 2015 book, 'Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan and the Night That Split the Sixties,' traces the events that led up to Bob Dylan's memorable performance at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. The book is about Dylan, but also about the folk movement, youth culture, politics and the record business. For the writer and director James Mangold, Wald's work provided an opportunity to tell an unusual story about the musician.
'You could structure a screenplay along the lines of what Peter Shaffer did with 'Amadeus,'' Mangold told the Book Review editor Gilbert Cruz. 'I don't really know what I learned about Mozart watching 'Amadeus.' But I do know that I learned a lot about how we mortals feel about people with immense talent.'
Mangold's film 'A Complete Unknown' is a chronicle of Dylan's early years on the New York folk scene, and it avoids easy explanations for the musician's genius and success. 'What if the thing we don't understand, we just don't want to understand,' said Mangold, 'which is that he's actually different? That he's just a different kind of person than you or I?'

Cruise's long-standing ties to the Church of Scientology are public knowledge — and polarizing, to put it gently. He's one of the religion's most visible (and powerful) figures, and many point to Scientology as a key factor in his past divorces, including his split from Katie Holmes. Blumhouse Reveals Trailer And Poster For ‘Black Phone 2'
Blumhouse has revealed the first poster and trailer for its highly-anticipated sequel to its hit horror thriller The Black Phone. The news was revealed Sunday at the CCXP Festival in Mexico City. Scott Derrickson returns to direct Black Phone 2, the sequel to the supernatural horror film that grossed $161M globally. Four-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke returns to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn's younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). The cast includes Oscar nominee Demián Bichir as the supervisor of the camp, Arianna Rivas as his niece, Miguel Mora as the brother of one of The Grabber's victims, and Jeremy Davies, returning as Finn and Gwen's father, Terrence. Oscar winner Wes Anderson returns to Deadline's Crew Call to shed some light on his writing process and how he came up with The Phoenician Scheme, a project he first started breaking around the time of his second Cannes premiere, 2021's The French Dispatch. He was looking for an Anthony Quinn type to play the notorious, yet lovable European magnet, Zsa-zsa Korda, and knew the star of French Dispatch, Oscar winner Benicio del Toro, was the guy. Anderson's third movie with Focus Features after Moonrise Kingdom and Asteroid City, hits limited NYC and L.A. theaters on May 30 with a wide break on June 6. The pic at 76% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes looks to emulate the specialty box office success of 2023's Asteroid City which grossed north of $28M stateside.
