MCMC probes video of Jalur Gemilang desecration on TikTok
TOKYO: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched a probe into a TikTok livestream video featuring an individual stepping on an image of the Jalur Gemilang.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the government will never tolerate any party that mocks or insults the Jalur Gemilang, which represents the nation's sovereignty, unity and identity.
'Firm action will be taken,' he told Bernama upon his arrival here today (May 29).
Fahmi arrived in Tokyo this evening to attend the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Ministerial Meeting (APT-MM) 2025, scheduled for May 30-31, 2025.
Local news portals reported that the live stream video in question was allegedly broadcast from Sri Lanka and remained online for over four hours. This incident is part of an ongoing cyber war between cyberbullies in Malaysia and Sri Lanka.

Really, give him an Oscar,' the father said. The truth only emerged when the girl sought treatment for her infection. Even then, she hesitated to reveal Fang's involvement until pressured by her mother. After a police report was filed in August 2024, Fang repeatedly harassed the victim with late-night calls, sometimes playing love songs or pretending to cry. The family intends to sue Fang for emotional and psychological damages. Their lawyer, Richard Siaw, confirmed civil proceedings would be pursued for harms beyond the criminal sentence. The father stressed they are not after money. 'Every cent will go to charity. But I want him to learn his lesson—since there was no caning.' Once a trusting family, they now monitor their daughter's movements closely. 'We gave her 100 per cent trust,' the father said. 'Now, we're just trying to make her happy again.' Fang's lawyer declined to comment on the civil case.

SINGAPORE, June 3 — A man who brutally attacked his wife with a cleaver outside a Beach Road restaurant in 2022 was sentenced today to 19 years in jail and eight strokes of the cane for attempted murder. Follow TikTok's lead and join Content Forum to curb online harm, comms minister tells Meta, X
KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today called on social media platforms, Meta and X, to be part of the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum (CMCF) as he deemed their measures to create a safer online environment are 'far from satisfactory'. Fahmi added that he has approached these platforms, asking them to follow the lead of TikTok — which voluntarily became a CMCF member. 'In my conversations with Asia-Pacific counterparts from Indonesia, Australia and Fiji, we found most of these social media platforms think they are bigger than the laws of governments of any country,' he said, after launching the Suicide Content Guidelines at Menara Star here today. 'But, we cannot have social media platforms just wash their hands off on (irresponsible) contents.' Meta operates Facebook, Instagram and Threads, while X (formerly Twitter) is owned by tech mogul Elon Musk. Fahmi said that a collective, regional policy response would be the best way to deal with social media companies that refuse to adhere to local laws. He said the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Safe and Responsible Use of Social Media Platforms by Asean leaders recently was one such initiative. The Malaysia-led initiative to combat digital harms across the region is set to be formally adopted at the 47th Asean Summit in October. Established in February 2001, the CMCF or better known as the Content Forum was designated as an industry forum to oversee and promote self-regulation of content over the electronic networked medium.
